Basically whoever made the trade-tree and routing in this game needs to be punched in the face repeatedly with a copy of Dawn of Discovery/anno 1404, anno 2070 etc. anno's ability to link up depots with production in that game would be nice, and it would be uber to have a setting on my trade port that says "keep the port half full of coal, sell the rest" vs what we have now.
This x 20.

Anno has awesome trading capability. They really should have ripped off Anno hardcore.

This game needs to be either bigger or more objective oriented. I can't freestyle it and just do random shit because if I don't plan out things the miniscule size becomes too constricting and every decision you make it permanent. On the other hand though there really is no higher purpose to all that planning, you aren't accomplishing any larger objectives. They really need to make the online component more compelling/competitive if they are really going to limit our ability to just fuck around. No saved games and no undo button are goddamn ridiculous for a game like this, especially when you accidently bulldoze something or make your street grid slightly off.

This game is fun but it feels like it's about 10% what it could and should have been.

If you want to just dick around play in sandbox mode. Easiest way to play without being so stuck with everything, or make a trade based city and have enough money to plop down 10 super stadiums for kicks.

This is kind of how I'm feeling. It seems like if I don't make everything perfect at first, I end up fucking myself later on. Sandbox is ok for experimenting, but I quickly lose interest because nothing matters there.

Not having a save, and knowing that if you abandon your city you might possibly be screwing over the rest of the region, makes it rough to experiment on a non-sandbox city. I've considered making my own region just to screw around with and not worry about anyone else, but then I realized that chances are I'd get sick of it before I even finished 2 or 3 cities.

I miss the massive cities where you could do everything. And if you fucked it up you could go back to a previous save and do it the right way.

This is why I stare at a blank landscape for about 30 minutes while I try to plan where to lay my first road. Earlier today I laid about $20k in roads and fucked something up so I deleted them all and started over.

This. Look at maps, resources, water table, wind direction then plan out basic areas and future upgrades/expansions before even starting. If anything, use dirt roads to give rough estimates for unbuilt areas to get a idea.

Yeah, they really need a mode for roads that let's you lay down "plans" then turn them into actual roads later so we don't have to dump ridiculous amounts of money into trial and error at the start.

So do dumps just continuously get more and more full? I've added a recycling center and the 32 square miles of land that takes, and it doesn't seem to curb the growth. The longer I have a city the more preposterously large the dump is. What's the optimal way to deal with all the trash?

That's exactly what I do. It drives me nuts to know that I more than likely screwed something up at the beginning but won't realize it until much, much later.

Our next objective is creating a region with 4 arcos. Once the leaderboards open we'll see what competition lies there.
That gives me a little bit to look forward to, so perhaps I'll fuck around with getting my system down a little better on solo maps so I don't screw anyone else up, and then join you guys on some competitive ones once all that is put back in.

I find the main thing at this point, is to be very willing to bulldoze parts of your city wholesale as you go. As long as you can afford it, nothing is too precious to be bulldozed and moved elsewhere. Its pretty necessary given the small map size and the way which requirements for larger cities and specialities vary over the course of the game. I had a strong aversion to it at first, because it seemed inefficient and like it kind of under-mined your hardwork, but once you get over that things will go a lot more smoothly and there will be a lot less pressure to get everything perfect the first time.

Anyone have a guide on building a hi-tech city start to fInisj? Are they mostly oil based heavy pollution? I read they were good worker supplier cities and I keep running into late game cities where I need more workers and I have to reorganize everything just for more zoning space and I'm not always sure which density workers I need.
