So, nearly a week later with the iOS jailbreak:

Use the newest version. The 1 year enterprise cert is basically a necessity if you ever reboot your device, which most people will end up doing. The cert on the older English version is 7 days and it's a semi-untether, meaning that you're going to end up having to reinstall the jailbreak after a week if you need to reboot. The Chinese version uses the 1 year cert as well.

Other than that minor issue, it's pretty rock-solid. I haven't had any issues, all of my favourite tweaks work (minus the ones that were never updated for iOS 9 in the first place) and the fuss of having to run the PP/Pangu app after reboot is minimal. Only takes a few seconds. Oh, and the whole thing about people being hacked after running the jailbreak is horseshit.

9.3.4 is out and fixes this jailbreak, so if you want to do it, don't update.

latest 1.1 english pangu now has the 1year cert, just make sure to click the option in app, or reinstall w/ new ipa file.

Is there anything useful to do with old phones?

I currently have a Note 3, Samsung S4, S3, two S2s, and LG G2, and some old HTC Evos (all Sprint) just sitting in a desk drawer in my home. Everytime I upgrade our phones (family plan with my wife & my parents on it) I never know what to do with the old phones.
I've managed for the last couple years to trade my phone in on promo's to get about equal what I would get selling it on eBay and probably a little more than if I tried to sell it on Craigslist. Example, last year I traded in my iPhone 5c, and got $300 for it towards my new Note 5. On Verizon's payment plan that dropped the monthly payments in half. I hope to do the same thing this year by trading in my Note 5, towards the Note 7.

Cannot recommend the OnePlus3 enough. For 400$ it's about as good as a phone is going to get. Huge battery, well built, slim, packs all the bells and whistles (even double sim if you do international at all). Only place it even falls a little bit short is it isn't rocking 1440p screen, but that seems like pointless expense to me when you're dealing with <6" screens.

Looking for android browser recommendations on a Note 5. I used to use ghostery browser but for some reason most images dont show up on the new boards with it. i am trying firefox with ublock but it seems slow in comparison. Chrome mobile sucks because no addons.

Decided to upgrade today - wife needed a fitness tracker so went with the S7 Edge since they had a promo for a free Fit2 that made it seem like no contest between others I was considering.

Eh, she needs the fitness tracker and frankly my phone was getting spotty on reception I would've ended up making myself insane with all the dropped calls I was getting in the same spot my wife was golden (with the same phone/carrier)

Any negatives with the pentile screen? I'm referring to stuff like this:

Also, how is reception compared to other phones? Saw some reviews saying reduced bars.

With a resolution so high, it is nearly impossible to tell between a PenTile and non-PenTile now-a-days without a good amount of magnification.

That's why I was asking. The last pentile screen I used was the Galaxy Nexus, which was a 4.65" 720p screen. The crosshatch problem was noticeable. The screen in that example, while magnified, is 1440p and 5.7". The OnePlus 3 is 1080p and 5.5"

Just noticed today that Verizon are offering $300 trade in credit on a few different phones like the Note 5, S6, iPhone 6, M9, etc.

It took a promo last year to be able to get that much in trade in credit towards the new phone. Going to be trading in my Note 5 for the Note 7 ASAP. Hope to be getting it Day 1, and will go with the Fitness watch as well. No need for the 256gb SD card.

Hype! New phones rock!

I can't see any flaws in the display on it. Came from a Nexus 5, so the extra .5 inches doesn't seem enough to actually make any of the pentile issues noticeable.

Reception is hard to say unfortunately. I'm on Tmobil, which has a pretty big LTE band 12 network in Chicago that my Nexus 5 didn't have. The OnePlus3 having band 12 just automatically puts it light years ahead of what I had before, but can't say how it would stack up vs similar band 12 phones.

There is definitely some degradation in text quality on pentile screens. After using a Note 3 and a Nexus 6p for the last 3 years, I was reading some email on my aunts iPhone 4s last night and the text definitely had better clarity and was easier to read in spite of being a smaller screen and smaller font size and being 5-year old screen technology.
