It's a beautiful phone, highly recommend it.
Decided to pull the trigger this morning, turns out it's not out for VZW for 2 more days

Would have been nice to know that before going by a Best Buy (no inventory, nothing in their systems that say when they'll get it) and a Verizon Store before finding that minor detail out.

How much longer should that battery last in comparison for a battery numbers newb? Linear increase or something more exponential? And that pricing is nummy.

Linear increase.

3,000mah is the same size as the LG G2, which has incredible battery life.

AnandTech | LG G2 and MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 - Mini Review

The Nexus 5 should, in theory, have even better battery life than the G2 due to the slightly smaller screen and the addition of 'envelope tracking' (http://i.imgur.com/gvjVrXh.png), a technology that should, again, in theory, improve battery life by another 10%~ or so.

Basically, the battery life should be amazing.

I'm tempted on the Nexus 5, but I think I'm going to grind out one more year with my Nexus 4 and get whatever Google comes out with in 2014.

Cor: Thanks for that info - 8 hrs of real use on the G2 and it should get another 20% based on that envelope tracking thing if that's to be believed, and the reduced screensize - holy shit it might actually be a smartphone you can play with all day without killing the battery finally?!

Hell, goddam yes... Now I just need to hear they're making a Sprint friendly model that also accepts SIMs and I'll be in the clouds.

Speaking of prepaid - how does T-Mo prepaid work exactly when it comes to data (especially GPS - use my GPS constantly)? Definitely going T-Mo when I switch out from Sprint, but their prepaid pages are damn confusing to make sense of outside of normal phone functions.

(Or other competing prepaid if anyone wants to make suggestions/shills)

I was using the $30 Unlimited everything but talk (100 minutes voice) plan, and it was 5gbs worth of 4g (or in my case HSPA+) data then they throttled you from there. Not sure down to what as I never even sniffed 5gbs.

Now I am on their post-paid family plan which works out to be even cheaper since we got 5 lines all together. Not as much high speed data but I didn't need it as none of us even use 1gb worth of data (we are around Wi-Fi a lot).

The next best option imo is Solavei, they are $49 per month for unlimited everything and throttle you down to 3G after 4gbs per month. Can get your bill even cheaper if you have multiple lines and/or get into their referral (re: multi-level marketing) stuff.

Debating between it and a 2/4 way family plan depending on if the in-laws want to hitch onto it - sounds like the $30 thing might actually be reasonable though - you only have to top it off every 3 months if you don't use up the time right? And there's some amount that counts as free minutes wise or something too?

Ummm, not sure which $30 plan you are looking at but this is the one I'm talking about.

It is about 1/2 down the page atPrepaid Cell Phone Plans, No Credit Check | Monthly 4G | T-Mobileand your minutes don't roll over, you have to renew every month. If you keep extra cash in your account you can go over the 100 minutes and it is at a rate of $0.10 per minute. If you have the possibility of up to 4 lines, the family post-paid plan is the way to go for sure as you get unlimited everything for virtually the same price, possibly even cheaper if you limit yourself to 1/2gb of high speed data.

Yea, we don't really give a shit about dropping down to slow data - but not sure what my credit will handle with the new house hitting my debt vs. income ratio before we switch in a couple months - hopefully they don't care if we're not leasing phones as part of the contract how tapped my credit is. [Her parents are in bankruptcy, they had been the primaries on the old with me splitting it down the middle with them - but no way they're doing anything that involves credit for half a decade or so]

And I was thinking the Pay As You Go stuff - but looking at it, they're doing 10c a text so I can goddamn guarantee it's not covering any data.

If you go the prepaid route you don't need to do any sort of credit check whatsoever. I did have to give my SSN for when I signed up for the post-paid family plan so they may have run a credit check (didn't buy any phones from them). If you qualified for a house I'm pretty sure you'll qualify for a cell-phone plan even with your new debt hitting the books

It is probably more to go after your credit score if you don't pay. Only the person paying the bill has to give a SSN so your in-laws can tag along on your plan w/o involving their credit at all.

Nod, I don't assume against either, just getting versed on all angles and possibles - I know for a fact doing two should be no big - four I'd still give high odds, but better to be aware of all options and not need them than the opposite.

BBC News - Samsung launches smartphone with curved display screen

Samsung Electronics, the world's best-selling smartphone maker, has launched a handset with a curved display screen.

Called the Galaxy Round, the smartphone will feature a 5.7in (14.5cm) display.

The launch comes just days after rival LG said it would begin production of curved-screen phones next year.

Digital display technology has been progressing towards curved screens. Both Samsung and LG already offer curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) television sets.

Samsung said the curved screen display would help consumers use some of the features on the phone, including those that enable users to check information such as date, time and missed calls when home screen is off, with more ease.

At the same time, users can also change music tracks on their phone, even while its display is off.

The Galaxy Round will initially be launched only in South Korea. The firm gave no indication of its plans for a global launch.
