Honestly, if I could browse gay porn on this phone, it would be a Godsend. Alas, it dies too quick. Seriously, I've turned off LTE and am only on 3G and then it only lasts for about 4-5 hours of usage. That's just browsing rerolled/FB and calling.

I have it on Verizon, so, I don't think they had an extended battery offer. :\

Bad phone because the volume just absolutely blows, the battery sucks, etc, etc!

You can get an extended battery for the VZW gnex, using one right now. 7.77WHr.

LTE is a battery hog on this phone. The LTE modem is on the 40nm process instead of 28nm process just about every phone afterwards got. This means the LTE modem eats a significant amount of power, even just idling. I think I calculated 2-4% battery drain idling on LTE. Turned off, it's ~1%.

Beyond that, I'd suggest rooting and installing better battery stats, you might have an app that's preventing sleep mode. But if 4-5 hours on 3G is HEAVY usage, like 26 nuts per day usage, then that battery life makes sense.

Wtf are you doing on your phone? I forgot to put my charger on my Gnex before bed a few nights ago and didn't realize it until lunch time the next day. So that's over 24 hours on one charge - granted most of that was standby but still I've never gotten less than 8 hours out of a full charge.

Nod, if I wasn't on my last 3 months of the phone I'd be investing in it this second myself - but knowing I'm not sticking with it (no real hate for it, but screen is cracked so its time to send it off into the sunset...) its a silly investment for 3 months (or less - may start the T-Mo contract early)

What do you do on your phone? Is yours rooted with a custom rom? Mine's stock. The most I've gotten out of my phone was about 8 hours. But, that was me mostly not using it and it being idled.

Do you leave GPS on at all times? It's a huge hog for the phone even on idle. (Gets my phone warm as hell too - I can actually get a temperature reminder on my thigh when its in my pants pocket and I forget - not relevant on most days recently since I'm wearing the trenchcoat most days recently though)

What version of Android are you running? Also have you rooted your phone and tried any custom ROMs and/or Kernels at all? The Verizon Galaxy Nexus does blow in stock form but if you take advantage of the developer community (the real purpose of owning a Nexus device) it can really improve the performance of your phone in all areas.

*edit: Just saw that you haven't rooted at all. If I were you I'd head over toXDA Developersand figure out what you need to do to start playing with some custom ROMs. At the very least install the Franco Kernel, that should improve your battery life quite a bit. If you haven't rooted or installed custom ROMs or Kernels before it can seem overwhelming at first but just about everything you need to do should be spelled out step-by-step and actually is really easy.

Lol, hell no. I haven't had GPS on in so long. I have my screen turned on low-half. I don't play games except for NCLEX/HESI (nursing shit) trivia questions.

I have Jelly Bean running atm. I tried rooting it and putting CMod on it, but, I thought I bricked it (thankfully didn't) and was about to factory reboot it.

Are you saying that your screen is on for 4-5 hours then it's dead? Like 5 hours of actually doing shit on the phone? If that's the case then yeah, your shit is going to be dead.

8 hours of idle time is horrible, even with LTE enabled. Something is keeping your phone awake when it should be asleep. Apps and bad reception can both do this.

Rooting won't affect battery life. Custom ROMs can, but it's usually very minor.


Vaclav, GPS will not drain that much battery. An app that uses GPS might.

2-3 hours max of screen on. When I'm at the hospital, it's on all day, but rarely gets used. By the end of my shift, it's about to be dead.

The 4-5 hours is minimal to moderate usage. Meaning, about 10 texts and browsing rerolled. This is when I'm in class, so, again, MINIMAL usage.

Plugged in all night, use it for about 10 minutes...it's at about 80-85% battery.

That's weird - I'd check what's running as a TSR then, I bet you something is keeping your phone from idling - sometimes some of the free apps add advertising and tracking bullshit that can keep it from idling. If you can stand it, try uninstalling everything for a day then adding stuff back slowly - I've got a hunch you've got an app issue.

Yep, my phone will idle for 24-30 hours. You got some shit running in the background.

Also, when I had my HTC Incredible (the first one) as well as using friends' iPhones, the phones last MUCH longer. MUCH.

That's Google Now draining battery as an app keeping the phone awake, not because the GPS radio is on. Think of GPS, how can that drain that much battery? It's one way communication, it doesn't even transmit. Because GPS is on, I'm guessing that Google Now sees it can poll location much more often, thus the phone is awake more.

I'm not up on how the tech operates at all - first I've heard it's one way at all - not up on GPS stuff at all besides it helping me drive around, heh.

Remember I was asking mAh questions just a page or so back.
