I could see it helping to resist scratches. There would basically be no way for the screen to touch a flat surface(ground, table, whatever) to get scratched. If you drop it(or even just lay it face-down), the only thing that could come in contact with the ground would be the back, or corners/edges.

The major advantages to flexible screens is that they are a lot thinner (meaning more room for battery and/or thinner phones) and are a lot harder to break, even when dropped.

But really the technology will be more impressive and applicable for things like wearables, helmet displays, cars accessories/displays, etc.

Going to upgrade both myself and my wife this week. We'll get a Note 3 and a Galaxy S4, but I'm trying to decide which one I'll be taking. My only concern with the Note 3 is just fitting in my pocket comfortably if I'm in jeans; definitely not a worry while I'm at work in a suit. Also, will I even really use the stylus? I think that I'll be fine with the Note 3, but just looking for a little feedback to make me feel better about my decision.

The Note III will fit in your jeans pocket, no problem. And no, you will never use the stylus.

I'm considering the Note3 as well. What exactly is the stylus used for, or when is it beneficial? Hand-writing notes?

You can do handwritten notes and you can also draw with it with various apps. It's not completely useless, but I don't think most people get it out very often.

The s-pen is pretty great. It's not going to turn you into James Cameron sketching Kate Winslet in Titanic, but if you can sketch, you can sketch with the s-pen on the Note fairly well.

Samsungs handwriting recognition software is actually really, really good. I use the stylus quite a bit with my Galaxy Note tablet, if I have a long email or post to write, it's at least as quick, if not quicker than using a touchscreen keyboard, and more accurate as well. But yeah, I still don't use it that often. It isn't worth busting it out for a 1-sentence text or response to something.

How the fuck does a curved screen help with anything listed in that article?
lol I know... Curved screen helps you change music etc lol.

there have been tons of curved glass screens, the HP veer and I think even the pre3 are curved slightly.. This one seems a lot lot more, and the other way curved hehe.

can someone please make a keyboard phone for me, not horizontal shit either

VERIZON30 gets you $90 off the $299 on-contract Note 3 price at Verizon's website. After their bullshit upgrade fee and local taxes though I'm right back up to $296 of course.

Man, I want the Note 3, but on Sprint it's $350 with a contract extension, + tax + $30 "activation fee", damn thing is over $400. That's a bit too much for my tastes, for a phone I'm only going to keep for 2 years max anyway. If the Nexus 5 is truly $299, I'll be going that route for sure, and looking pretty hard at prepaid plans

Nexus 5 + straight talk is the route I am going to go. Coverage is important for me since I live in Ithaca, so that eliminates Sprint and Tmo. If you can get around on just those shit networks most of the time, quite jealous. Verizon does have a straight talk plan, but they don't allow any LTE devices on that plan. I'm going to guess their other prepaid plans have similar ridiculous restrictions. Is there a division in a cell phone company that calculates just how much of a dick they can be to their customers without affecting the bottom line? Probably the same division that came up with the "activation fee" about a year ago. Cashier said they needed it for training!

So that really just leaves ATT.

So, two times I've tried getting an iPhone and both times something has happened. My first one, my contract had not ended so it would have cost about $700. Fuck that. The second time, the Apple store was out of phones. I think this is a sign that iPhones are not for me.

I'm still in need of a phone and desperately want to get rid of my Galaxy Nexus from Google/Samsung. This is *the* worst phone ever. I'm not interested in a phablet, so the Note 3 is out. What do you guys suggest? I'd like something that can last longer than 2-3 hours of usage...

Kuriin if you've got 4-6 weeks to wait, from the battery data they released on the Nexus 5 (as well as other hardware specs) it's looking like the Nexus 5 is going to be a beast of a battery on the $399 model (and still quite a lengthy battery time on the $299).

GNex is dated and if you didn't get the extended battery (Sprint offered them free for a while) - it's quite easy to chew through the battery in 3 hrs or so of web-browsing/games - I can feel his pain
