if it came bundled with something like free 5 years worth of Amazon Prime, ebooks and audiobooks then I might buy one just for shits and giggles.

At the current deal? Yeah.... no thanks

Or if they gave it away free with say, subscribing to 2 years of prime, then they might have had something useful.

My favorite things of the Note 4: The screen. Holy shit the screen. So nice. Also the camera is outstanding. Combined the two make it worth not having root/adaway yet. The battery life is solid and really glad I got it so far.

Bought an iphone 6 64gb for Mrs. Izo. It seems bigger than my old trusty SG4. Bah.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I think this could be revolutionary. I heard about this on a tech radio discussion today. This could shake up the status quo with the yearly product cycle releases from Apple, Samsung, et all.

Project Ara (Google) :
The codename for an initiative by Google that aims to develop a free, open hardware platform for creating highly modular smartphones. The platform will include a structural frame that holds smartphone modules of the owner's choice, such as a display, keyboard or an extra battery. It would allow users to swap out malfunctioning modules or upgrade individual modules as innovations emerge, providing longer lifetime cycles for the handset, and potentially reducing electronic waste.
The idea being, you aren't stuck with your static phone build. The phone is fully modular and you could upgrade individual components as desired. (new processor, new camera, new memory, etc) The chassis is set at $50 and you pick and choose the hardware you like for your budget / tech needs.

I'm all for something like that, but I'm also a person that has been building my own computers for the past 25 years. I'm not sure the general public would be able to handle something like that, not unless it's so simple to piece together that its no more difficult than snapping legos together, but at that point you're probably pretty limited on what you can really do within the confines of the very limited space.

To be truly modular and very, very simple(lego simple) you're going to have to make a LOT of performance concessions. And I don't know if that type of phone would appeal to the type of audience that is going to want performance concessions(the hardcore, gotta have a new phone every year types)

Wasn't there another company already building something like that like last year? Haven't heard anything else on that since. But now it's Google so who knows.

yeah it was posted here, they most likely got bought by google...or just plain idea jacked.

Pops needed a new phone, hes been runnin a G3? or G4 I think (galaxy) moms been running a iPhone 5c... he got moved into some Sharp phone- the aquos.. he called me to tell me he got a new phone and it sounded like he was either 20ft away or eating cotton balls... it was terribab. The speaker is one of those sealed system thing where you have to have it on your ear perfectly to hear so every time you call him its "hello...hello...hello? oh hey" while he gets it lined up perfectly to hear..

he took it back and they had some promo.. he and mom now both have iPhone 6's...

The sharp phone did look...sharp...the no bezel was really nice and was quite a pretty phone (for 150$ on boost, free on contract)- it ran decent, its call quality was garbage

Pretty sure that was a Motorola project initially before Google bought them out.

Got an invite? I'm looking to get one.

Heh. Nevermind. Apparently there was a pre-order window today which I got in with 7 seconds to spare.
Not sure, I just got it through the preorder today. Says shipping in 4-6 weeks and my account on the site doesn't even show the order yet. Email said it could take 24 hrs.

It will show up right around the time it ships. The system is a little slow. With the open ordering they've really been tight with invites. I've had mine a couple of months and haven't received any yet.

Great phone though. Bacon version of slimkat with franco is amazing.

Did you download the optional camera settings? Like food, sport shot, house walk through? shit like that. Some awesome free addons to the camera using the "download" function of mode.

Also, I have another app that I got for free last month called Paper Camera. It's kinda like instagram in that it puts filters on your pictures, but one of the filters makes it look like your picture was drawn with pencils. Really awesome.

Here's an example of the paper camera pictures.

It's my daughter playing around the trash cans in the back of my house.
