In regards to what original backers wanted this game to be vs what they will eventually get when they finally release it; Reviews are leaking about Eve Valkyrie alpha, and it's the greatest dog fighting game ever made. Not sure how much of that is the pure VR awesomeness vs the actual design compared to SC but since the games share a similar fanbase, the section that's been waiting on SC for the next wing commander are gonna jump ship.

edit: Not sure to what extent that will even affect SC, no idea how small that subset of players is. Just saying the dudes who would drop $$ on all the SC branded joystick/keyboard peripherals for the dogfighting game will instead buy an Oculus Rift for Valkyrie.

The progress is great for the current scope, the current scope being the end-all-be-all immersive space sim that many people have tried and failed to build for a long time now. You can argue whether the change in scope was smart or even if it was ethical, but seriously, if you had ~100 million dollars at your disposal, would you settle for making a 'little' game?
Ah ok, just trying to understand your position.

(Personaly I would have done the basic game as promised, sold the ships as they do then walk away with any money left over with a grin on my face.... but then I am a bastard. It would not have made 100mil either without all the additional features but would probl. set me up for life

Well it assumes that the original backers aren't all for the newer additions and scope. I'm willing to be most are OK to excited about them. The original backers are probably more hardcore than most.
True enough, alot of the "low number citizens" seems happy as clams. Some of us are not tho

(But as I said, it seems to be no-to-little issues with getting refunds at the moment, so anyone who wants to get off the ride can do so)

I myself is just in it for a low amount of money and just want a god damned co-op space game to play with a few friends, SQ42 with co-op was perfectly fine with me and all this "CAPITAL SHIP!" "REPAIR SHIP IN SPACE!!!1" "FPS like its COD!" and the rest of the tacked on BS is just in the way of me getting that game. I realize that most people intrested in SC wants it to be a "living universe simulator" where they can do anything from pilot a ship to work in an cantina dressed like a furry, so I am in the minority.

Yes, I am slightly bitter, but as E: D gets better we can actually play that together these days so now its more waiting to see if SC will be better as a co-op game then E: D at the time of release.

I just want a decent space shooter, I don't care who does it. Elite made a daily quest simulator in space and it sucks. SC is whatever the fuck it is. If eve can make something so be it.

Fuck you no it's not.

...is it?
lol

Ok that genuinely made me laugh out loud.

What little I can glean it has a campaign, multiplayer built in and it's separate from EVE. Original plan was full EVE integration but just like I mentioned the limited FPS integration they opted out. And there is your problem with game development. Once your engine is built and up and running it's hard to change course. The ripple effect can be so great that you may as well start from scratch. Often game developers that do this will include one or two new features and once again leave out the big integration or just cheat and call it a day. Doing everything right is hard.

On another note the comparison to building a burger is fucking facepalm inducing.

Not sure if it's news, but they invited more testers to the PTU tonight, FYI.

It's been in dev for 3 years. IMO 2 years from reaching it's goals. That's the average length of time for your typical AAA title.

Could you give it a minute?

2 years. LOL.

I'm sorry but have you reviewed the entire list of stretch goals lately?

2 years seems on-track for shipping episode one of SQ42 and getting the beta PU up with 3-5 star systems.

lol no it's not.

It is however VR only.

It is separate from Eve just like Dust is separate (but linked) from Eve. It'll probably eventually be directly tied in just like Dust will be (more so than it already is) but as variise continues to point it it requires completely rebuilding Eve.

or you know, more likely, Eve 2.

That's assuming the gravy train doesn't run out and they have to interrupt that progression by madly turning the FPS component into CoD and trying to recoup dollars with microtransactions.

I still remember people in my WoT league team dropping 10k on this in the first months with the expectations of having something playable in a year or two which was of course years ago. I want this game to succeed and release with everything promised but I cannot say I feel bad for not dropping a dime on it to date.
