I hope the next captain is gay because, even if the show turns out worse than the first season of Star Trek: Enterprise, the homophobic rage from a portion of the fan base would provide sufficient entertainment.

Star Trek kinda needs a series because it doesn't exactly work as one adventure every 3 years. Even in the most recent picture they start out at the end of an adventure already in progress and then make references to other past adventures that are variants from the original timeline. Additionally motion pictures need to have BIG cinematic things happening which both cut out the potential for the smaller more elegant stories and force things like Earth being threatened by V'ger, Whale lovers, God, Eric Bana etc. on a far too regular basis.
