What's REAL scifi?I'm refusing all invitations to see this piece of shit, which I've already made my friends well aware. If you're a ST or fan of real scifi generally, you should be doing the same. If you're an average mainstream mouthbreather lemming, I'm sure you'll love it.
Ya know like Promethiooohhhhhh nm... ;-)What's REAL scifi?
Best of Both Worlds is coming out in theaters soon. What's REAL scifi?
You know, I tried not to nitpick the first one too bad, but they seriously better not have been able to fucking salvage shit that got sucked up by a black hole.Looks like a cross between Enterprise and a Klingon Warbird. But I assume it's based on salvaged tech from whatever was left of the future Romulan/Borg mining vessel (if anything - that was a fuckload of RED MATTER yo)
Star Trek is (edit: was) more than just a story and more than just scifi. The first new release and likely this one will neither have a good story or could be considered scifi, as it's now been reduced to a generic action film that share the name and characters of the show just to make money.Real Sci-fi. That's an interesting oxymoron. Technically all science fiction isn't real.
Good story telling is good story telling regardless of setting or genre. You could take all the excellent Star Trek characters (Kirk, Spock, Khan, McCoy, Scottie ect.) and transplant them into a period drama about naval conflicts in the late 1500's; and it would still be an awesome story.
It wasn't the dilithium crystals or transporters or warp drives or any other tech that made star trek memorable; those helped give texture and space to the series. It was the honest characters, interesting situations, and strong resolutions that made the series and movies worthwhile. Not all of it was gold, some of it sucked, but the parts worth talking about always involved the characters.
Sci-fi that gets caught up in nothing but techno babble, or beating people over the head with moral preachy-ness, or eye candy special effects will always fall short. Find a good story, and let the science fiction parts act as a back drop. If this New Star Trek does that, then it's a good movie, regardless what the enraged Neck Trekkers say.
But it wasn't, even as a standalone movie. The plot holes were just absolutely hilariously gaping. The action was boring. I don't know what you'd consider good. The ad placements? Are you in marketing? And also good. You forgot good.
Deal with it.
Would you like to compare? These rose-tinted glasses must give me eagle-eye vision, wow.So, companies exploiting youthful and borg-done-right nostalgia is real scifi?
Plot holes? In a time travel movie? Noooo, those never happen. They were small and trivial. Deal with it. It's a new timeline, everything ebfore this has went out the window. That's what you have a sandy vag over. Get over it. The only gripe in the new movie was Red Matter and it was there just a plot device. Maybe it wasn't great but it wasn't bad.But it wasn't, even as a standalone movie. The plot holes were just absolutely hilariously gaping. The action was boring. The only good parts were, both ironically and sadly, Nemoy. Someone will have to let me know if he makes an appearance to try and salvage this one too.
The part they cut out of the film had the Klingons showing up right after Kirk's dad suicides to cripple Nero's ship and taking the ship plus all the romulans and putting them in prison when they won't reveal how the ship works... fast forward 20 years and Nero breaks out of prison and immediately goes to meet Spock.Yeah none of those Romulans would have ever thought of contacting homeworld or family during their long stay in the past. They were all fanatically loyal to Nero and just sat around jerking off for 20+ years waiting for Spock.
Of course someone has future tech. They don't need to salvage it.
Yeah except klingons are retardedThen again you would think after 20 years of having a huge super advanced ship they would have been able to figure out something...
No, it wasn't. It was just a story.Star Trek is (edit: was) more than just a story and more than just scifi.
