But Quaid, he had a cool helmet!

Some of the highest rated episodes of Clone Wars involved bounty hunters, either young Boba and his crew or Cad Bane or when Obi-wan went undercover as one. So it isn't just the line-up of bounty hunters summoned by Vader or in Jabba's palace there's some fans who just have a hardon for the whole category. Hondo even transitioned over to Rebels because he was a liked smuggler character.
I'm not too acquainted with the larger canon. Wouldn't call myself a huge fan. Never did watch a full episode of Clone Wars nor a single one of Rebels or any other animated show. I've heard some stuff here and there. Haven't read the EU novels. Read a few comics when I was very young. Did not watch Force Awakens in the theaters, had the DVD sitting around for months. But I've always admired teh Star Wars.

A bounty hunter space western would fit very well. I'd prefer another character to Fett.

i remember lucas said a few years ago he had like 2-3 years of a star wars live TV show all scripted out and ready to shoot but the CGI wasn't really ready yet for TV level at a price they could afford. I wonder what the fuck it was gonna be about

i'd guess in a few years they dip into The Old Republic quill, I could see a Netflix style show thats based on KOTOR and the MMO being pretty good. I think ultimately they will have to, current era star wars is just far too constrained by only a few Force users and the constant repetition of the Death Star

This is what I loved about this movie. When I read the premises of it a long time I knew was going to get pissed if the team that stole the plans somehow managed to live to tell the tale. Disney didn't pussy out and I left the movie theaters satisfied.

The battle both in space and on the beach was all I had hoped for, it felt like star wars and gave me goose bumps as soon as the rebels went in fight mode to help rogue one.
If anyone played the Halo series, this is what Halo Reach felt like, you were like "damn is my guy gonna make it? i've been playing him for 10hours, kinda attached to him... oh wtf! they glassed the planet and i'm standing in the center, well damn"
===

Imagine if instead of this storyline, where for some reason instead of explaining all "LOL, RETARD EMPIRE BUILDS A HOLE THAT COULD DESTROY IT WITH ONE TORPEDO!!!", and having all the nerds scoff at it.

Instead just rip off Guardians of the Galaxy.

I don't think it would have been possible tho, again I only care for the asians, not cuz they're slant eyes, but b/c they gave the best performances, but have 60years of acting experience between them.

white girl, paki and wetback weren't even tv quality actors.

Yeah the RLM vid was pretty good as usual.

No doubt everyone here has played one or two Halo games.

I thought all of them, Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen did good jobs. Then again I'm not picking this apart too critically. Good work from Tudyk as well but that was not surprising. He proved his chops as Alpha.

Disney could be making billions if they just remade 4-6

Don't even joke about this horseshit.

If they simply have to remake something, have at it with the prequels. For all of their issues, the one thing about them that truly ticks me off happens when I throw on ANH and watch the hulking terror that is Darth Vader emerge through the smoke and carnage of the initial battle, and I inevitably and involuntarily think back to the fact that this guy's backstory was performed for us by George Lucas-directed Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen. Ugh, fuck you.

The underworld. Crime families, bounty hunters, shady deals gone sideways, etc. And yeah he had some writers at Lucasfilm crank out a bunch of scripts for it. I believe some of it was incorporated in Clone Wars and Rebels.

Can someone please explain to me why anyone gives a shit about the bounty hunters in Star Wars? I've never understood it at all.

I think a bounty hunter Star Wars spinoff would flop (comparatively) except with the grognard faction who have inexplicable boners for Boba Fett - a character with less exposition than some of the Ewoks.

I understand the allure they have for some but I don't really share it myself. Not to the point of wanting to see a movie centered around them. And certainly not a Boba Fett movie. Some characters benefit from the mystery that surrounds them and he's one of them. You occasionally pull back the curtain and allow a tiny peak, then close it again and let the viewers imaginations take it over from there. Lucas never seemed to understand that. That's why one of the worst parts of The Clone Wars, for me, was the young Boba stuff. I neither need or want to see what the junior Fett was up to as a 10 year old.

If a bounty hunter movie just has to be made, with an otherwise unsavory character as the focus, I think something in the mold of Mel Gibson's Payback would be the best fit even though that might be a little harsh for a Star Wars movie.

in the 80s star wars nerds would watch anh/esb/rotj, and try to come up with shit to out nerd the other nerds, and thats where they're like, whose that retard with the jet pack that captured Han?

Boba Fett? oh yea Han said his name when he was blind in the saarlak pit, imma gonna nerd some knowledge now at the weekly bbs meeting!!!

It was because, like some have said, he just looked cool. He sounded like a bad ass when he spoke (in ESB) and he had the stones to get lippy with Vader. And his action figure (the first one) was the only one that could shoot shit.

And the mysteriousness of the character. As Lanx said as well, I don't remember knowing his name till the late 80s probably. He was the cool one who barely spoke. Who then got crunched by a snaggletoothed sand vagina.

Learning about Jango in AOTC ruined that mystery with a flimsy backstory, even if it moved the plot forward concerning the clones.

Payback was a good movie, one thing's for sure though. We're not ever getting an R rated Star Wars entry.

Yeah. I'm not talking about one of the Hutts having his henchmen smash a guys toes off with a hammer though, more just the premise with a context that allows a bad guy to become someone whose success you can get behind. A bad deed goes south and the guy gets screwed over and goes bounty hunting for his kind of people on his own dime. John Wick without the puppy.

Everything post ROTJ has sucked. That's the truth of it. Disney will shit out a Star Wars movie every year now until they tarnish the Star Wars name, and when "Star Wars: Han Solo looks for a new apartment" comes out, idiots here will say it's the greatest movie they've ever seen, until the next Star Wars movie comes out, at which point they'll say they never really liked the previous movie that much.

Just admit that you have no perspective or objectivity when it comes to the original trilogy movies. Most of us here have done it. It isn't anything to be ashamed of and it makes it easier to enjoy the new Star Wars movies.

Me and all by buddies at school knew his name long before it was ever spoken in RoTJ. But we were kids who had a lot of the toys, bought the trading cards, etc.

I never thought it was the actual actor. Even if I didn't remember that he was dead, I knew he'd have to be way too old by now. But I did think it was a real person that they did a helluva makeup job on. Same with leia.

So how many actors were in R1 who were also in ANH? I'm thinking James earl jones, and C3PO are probably it.

Red Leader and Gold Leader were both in it although their screen time was in the form of footage originally shot for Ep IV and later edited out that was updated by ILM.

I forgot to mention that, in addition to Red and Gold Leaders there were also a few pilots shown who were also taken from some original Ep IV footage that had been cut out of that movie entirely. They finally got their screen time.

For me, it was the EU. I read every book they had with jedi in it, then got bored and finally picked up a bounty hunter book and was hooked. They just had better stories. Probably because they're allowed to have questionable morality without being 100% evil. They kind of experimented with grey jedi who were supposed to be neither light nor dark, but that was a flop. Now my favorite star wars stories have little or no jedi involvement. Doesn't have to be bounty hunter's either. Mercenaries or just plain soldiers work for me too.

I need to watch R1 a few more times to be sure, but this might be my #1 star wars movie.

really? out of the good 4? let's start the rankings then, movies in chronological timeline order
I – The Phantom Menace (1999)
II – Attack of the Clones (2002)
III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Rogue One (2016)
IV – A New Hope (1977)
V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)
VII – The Force Awakens (2015)

my order would be:
V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
VII – The Force Awakens (2015)
IV – A New Hope (1977)
Rogue One (2016)
VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)
prequel shitty shit 1/2/3

I am still digesting R1, maybe it can beat out ANH for 3rd spot
