Star Wars : Rogue One

I want to hear what was good about this movie. It did an amazing job of making you never care about any of the cast, after the movie was over I had no feelings about any of the characters except K2SO



Blind guy has super senses
Asian tank just blast shit
Cassien not sure what to think, he was worthless but you remember his name
Mexican gets captured and had intel
Forest Witaker is there with robo legs and knew Jyns father but it doesnt matter
Jyn has a terrible story and for whatever reason is the one responsible for saving the Rebelion and credited for everything because the galaxy knows when a woman does something? They literally say "she did it" while not ever talking to her......

Thinking about it more does make me want to rank it below all others

Watching Rogue One is like watching paint dry. A bunch of lame uncharismatic characters that you don't care about doing dumb uninteresting shit and you already know the ending.

Also note that the only people defending this pile of shit are the pathetic nerds with sad, unhealthy emotional attachments to Star Wars. Since Oldbased didn't bother to see it in theaters I assume he doesn't fall into this category.

To be clear, I do love Syfy movies. Even half crappy ones. Hell I thought Prometheus wasn't terrible just not worth seeing in theaters. In the past few years I have only seen Oblivion, Pacific Rim, GotG, John Wick, Deadpool and Edge of Tomorrow on the big screen.

I don't mind shitty characters and dialogue as long as there is space ships and people getting blasted. Now if Rogue One is full of jarjars doing jarjar type dialogue then I want no part. If it has crappy characters but the whole movie isn't watching said bad characters then you can count me in.

I guess a easier way to explain it is I don't care about the actors anymore since I know most of them are liberal mental fucks who can't do the one job they are paid to do which is be someone else, but I do love me some giant space ships blowing shit up.
So the better question for me is, how much of R1 is CGI syfy awesomeness and how much of it is Disney bullshit because if it is anything less than 75% syfy awesomeness then I could just watch TFA again and be miserable for free.

Now my dilemma is different than most. I've downloaded one movie my entire life illegally. I don't mind to, I just don't care to. I purchase on UV friendly sites like Vudu and have a group of people linked to it so it can be watched by 6 people anytime anywhere on any device as long as it has connection. Now normally I would wait until it is on sale if in doubt and grab it for $8 4K quality but this is Disney and this is Star Wars. It won't ever be discounted much. So it is either purchase or wait 4-5 months until Starz has it.

As far as nerds and crap. I saw my first Star Wars at the age of 5. I was pretty young and no one thought it would even be good as it was 1977 and no one had heard of it, but by the next ones and 3rd(6th) I was 10 and had a pretty good idea of it and had all the toys. Hell I still got many of the original action figures in a box in the closet. Hell I even have a stuffed yoda and yoda throw because Kohl's had them for $5 for the pair last year. Great cat toy for a 18lb cat. So call me a fan, but I never read the novels and I wasn't super impressed with 1,2, and 7 but there were as watchable as most syfy stuff these days.

I'm leaning at this point just to wait until it is on the premiums and if for some reason I feel I must have it and I'm still around I'll buy it then or maybe just renting it. If it is a type not worth watching more than once, better to pay only $4 than $20.

How difficult is it for them to do something like KOTOR. god dammit, watching these movies makes me want to replay those games just to get the taste out

I'd knock another point off for the shitty characters and the first 2/3 of the movie being utterly forgettable. The almost total lack of Jedi/Force stuff sucked too.

It's basically an hour or so of a bunch of NOT WHITE MEN doing random space rebellion stuff then a massive awesome 40 minute battle scene (both in space and on the planet). Worth watching if you're with someone who wants to see it, or if you have a couple hours to kill and can get a cheap copy, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way.

The "problem" with something set in the Old Republic is, while fascinating to most Star Wars fans, that era has virtually no footprint in the consciousness of the wider audience. Lucasfilm currently doesn't have the stones to stray too far from the shadow of the OT and it's central characters. It's an issue I'm not sure they're equipped to address either. They could put out some stories set in that period in media other than the movies, but those are pretty much only consumed by the hardcore fans to begin with and their current approach (using them to back fill gaps created by the movies) means we probably won't even get those, outside of possibly in gaming. As it stands I'm holding out only a small hope of getting to see a KOTOR style of movie before succumbing to my dotage.

Watch if:
You are interested in learning how the rebel alliance got their hands on the death star plans immediately before Episode 4.
You want a well crafted yet somewhat revisionist/retcon explanation for the glaring plot hole in Episode 4 (and thus ep 6 as well), how easily the ultimate superweapon was destroyed.
You want to see the greatest Darth Vader scene ever put on film. Something to explain why he was so feared, a true dark lord of the Sith. The original trilogy captured this in tone and dialogue, but the original light saber battle choreography is absolutely laughable. The dog shit which are the prequels which forever ruined the Darth Vader Mythos (and really all star wars mythos) by making him an emo whiny bitch loser and made lightsaber battles boring as shit disco light shows, are basically erased by the Depiction of Darth Vader in this film. It captures his brutal, methodical mastery of both the lightsaber and use of the force that we saw glimmers of in Kylo Ren, until he removed the helmet and we learned he's just yet another whiny emo faggot like Hayden Christensen.

Don't Watch if:
You are a terrible human being with shit opinions who thought the prequels were good.
You are expecting a happy sunshine disney-esque ending where not everyone dies, because spoiler, they all die for this mission.
You are ultrasensitive to SJW bullshit of which there isn't any in this film but you totally find reasons to see it everywhere you look because you suffer from persecution complex. The heros of this film are a White Man and his white daughter. She has 2 asian side kicks (light and dark skinned), a white-ish male side kick, and a goddamn droid. The bad guys in the film are Governor Tarkin (a white guy) and another white guy who oversees the death star project. whoopidy shit.

Jesus Christ. It's one thing to be a fan and another thing to deep throat Star Wars so hard that it's cutting off oxygen to your brain.

I love Star Wars, I think the prequels suck, and I still think this movie was prequel level garbage. It's almost as bad as the Clone Wars episodes on Mortis, which are the worst thing with the name Star Wars on it that I've seen in my entire life.

Just watch the movie to receive your Star Wars Completion Achievement and stop seeking approval and validation from internet strangers.

You never read a book to the end before you rate it do you?
The question was not if I would ever see it, the question was it worth $20 and owning it. It really isn't even $20 anymore. I spent $27 on pizza and wings last night just to debate it. Technically now it would be $47.

This piece of shit is calling Empire an 8/10. gtfo

If you think this is a well crafted movie you probably have a serious mental disorder. They didn't even get the fucking music right.

I'd suggest watching Galaxy Quest instead, they did it better.

Motherfucker go back and watch the Mortis episodes again if you really think the droid infiltration arc was worse.

I mean, those episodes were pretty shit too. I don't remember the Mortis stuff offhand but I sure remember the droid crap.

Mortis was where The Ones (the father/son/daughter trio) lived. They were divisive episodes that some felt were too weird to feel like part of Star Wars and were just a bunch of force gobbledygook exposition set against a predictable story arc. But some really liked them.

I've never seen anyone say anything positive about that droid arc.
