They can do whatever the fuck they want. End of story.

Disney decides Princess Leia and Snow White are lesbians? It's fucking canon... But please continue telling us how a single paragraph from a press release, meant only to placate a select group of nerds, means you didn't waste years of your life watching mediocre cartoons in the hope you were getting *at most* some 15 second insight into the new movie.

edit: Cartoons which apparently didn't even bother researching basic shit like....which side of the face Darth Vader's scar is on. Yeah, that's deep shit that JJ Abrams and the writers clearly will have time to watch and deeply include in their new stories.

Someone will write a book/fanfiction at some point attempting to reconcile the scar issue which I'm sure is a raging debate of controversy among the 5 people who care. An alien did it.

It's his weeping vagina. Anakin is a terrible, terrible character totally unworthy of Darth Vader. Part of me wishes they had just left his younger years a goddamned mystery.

It would of been better if Disney just said that anything that happened before A New Hope never existed. I'll sacrifice KOTOR stories for that.

Yeah all the old republic stories are already gone in the 'legends' category. But I'd gladly give up Clone Wars and Rebels both if it meant the prequels were no longer canon.

Was Skirata ever mentioned in the clone wars?

Cause those stories are the ones I most want to be kept as canon in the new movies.

Nope. The Mandalore stuff in Clone Wars was all related to Duchess Satine trying to keep Mandalore neutral of both the Republic and the Separatists, and the Death Watch attempting to assassinate Satine and take control of Mandalore.

I just hope they retcon the Midi-chlorians nonsense. Just write in that the older Jedi didn't fully understand what the fuck the force was.

God I hated that more then anything in the prequels including Jar Jar.

A-fucking-men. It literally pooped on the entire fucking meaning of everything behind the series. The force goes from being some mystical thing to sounding like a fucking biology exam.

Midichlorians aren't the force itself, they are just a measure of an individual's force sensitivity.

That's an EU cop out and you know it man

Didn't they downgrade all that stuff to no longer canon anyway?

My memory of it is pretty blurry but I think the dialogue was quite explicit about the midichlorians being the direct connection between The Force and the Jedi. IMO best thing to do going forward is just not address the concept at all. Pretend it never happened. Pretend the prequels never happened, for that matter. And silently order a hit on whichever idiot gave Lucas a biology textbook. Can't let that shit slide yo.

There's a reason even George Lucas refused to ever acknowledge it again in episodes 2 and 3. For once in his life even he felt regret about it.

Well, right, they never said it was where the force came from, just the reason some people could connect with and control it better. Like Anakin/Vader or Yoda. And that's not really EU, its implied directly by QGJ:

Anakin Skywalker: Master, sir, I heard Yoda talking about midi-chlorians. I've been wondering...what are midi-chlorians?
Qui-Gon Jinn: Midi-chlorians are a microcopic lifeform that reside within all living cells and communicates with the Force.
Anakin Skywalker: They live inside of me?
Qui-Gon Jinn: In your cells, yes. We are symbionts with them-
Anakin Skywalker: Symbionts?
Qui-Gon Jinn: Life forms living together for mutual advantage. Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to you, telling you the will of the Force. When you learn to quiet your mind, you will hear them speaking to you.
Anakin Skywalker: I don't understand.
Qui-Gon Jinn: With time and training, Annie, you will. You will.
Look, I'm no fan of the prequels like Edge or something, but the midichlorian thing is blown way out of proportion and people always say it ruined the force or whatever. It was never really presented as actually being the source of the force though like people imply. If you hate midichlorians you should hate the entire premise of "force sensitivity" which has become an accepted part of canon. And you are certainly free to hate the force sensitivity concept, I can understand that too.

Well yeah, there's nothing to imply that the midichlorians generate the force or anything like that, but that quote makes it pretty explicit that it's the presence of midichlorians which causes people to be sensitive to the Force, which doesn't directly contradict anything we're told in the original series, but definitely goes against the more generally spiritual vibe the force had there. Anyway I'm sure this is at least the millionth time an argument about midichlorians has taken place on the internet, and I'm not invested in the SW series enough to be 1 000 001, so whatever.

Being able to access the force more due to having more midichlorians in the body is kind of like being able to speak with God better because you have magic head lice. Or being more in touch with Dharma because you have a particularly amazing tapeworm infestation.
