Isn't Kylo like thirty in the movie?

Kylo is finished by the way he will always be Reys bitch in the audiences mind after this movie.

So not only is Rey now a one dimensional chosen one type character but the main villain is now a emo loser. So the ending of this movie the way they did not only damaged Rey's character but destroyed Kylo's.

This is starting to remind me of JJ's work in Star Trek where the first movie was passable but the second movie wasn't.
Jesus, don't tell me the second movie could actually be worse than this one!

look dumbfuck, i don't know what you're not getting here. no one has a problem with the protagonist being a female. the problem is her going from zero to hero in a heartbeat, like you would expect out of any other Disney movie. do you understand or do i have to break it down further?
If only this movie had some mythical "force" that would guide people to do things. So much would be explained!

Edit: I really shouldn't feed the trolls. Etchazz is obvious, he hates everything(iirc its because his friends cant get scripts sold). And keg has always been a troll.

Instead of people going to Star Wars 8 in order to see that bastard Kylo get what he deserves for killing Han people will instead be deciding if they want to go see Rey beat on her bitch Kylo some more.

I don't see how some of you guys don't understand the problem the above creates for the next movie.

I'll state it more directly for you snowflake. A character like Rey is consistent with the larger Star Wars universe outside of three movies made back in the 70's and 80's. For those who appreciate that universe her character isn't something to cause us to stuff sand in our cunts while shouting "Fuck you Disney !!"
If this movie had been solely written with SW neckbeards in mind, there would be little issue. But it isn't realistic to write a script for Joe Average (the majority of viewers) and then to somehow expect them to suspend their disbelief until the sequel hits.

The problem with the scene was that in order for it to make sense, you have to have outside knowledge that the movie doesn't provide. Everything that you and others are saying is valid, but to the average viewer it wasn't very clear why she went Hulk-mode and whupped his ass. I have some outside knowledge, and it still seemed somewhat vague to me. I'm just chalking it up to bad storytelling, but whatevs.

It's like people aren't seeing the forest for the trees here. 'Explaining' it all on paper isn't the same as explaining it within the tight time constraints of a single movie. You have to do a certain amount of hand holding in a movie so your audience isn't sitting there wondering why this supposedly badass Sith dude just got bitch-slapped by a novice who just had a weird fainting spell. People can argue on the Internet until they are blue in the face but it won't change the fact that it wasn't clear to anyone that wasn't a SW nerd.

How was it not clear? It explained it perfectly. My parents are far from star wars fans, my mother actually dislikes it and she got it just fine. The Force is hardly known to only "SW nerds".

Maybe its not clear to complete retards or people who just want to ignore it so they have something to argue about.

It works fine unless you haven't seen the other movies. Since it's episode seven, I don't think it's unreasonable to not do yet another fucking origin story and just let the characters have their story and work through the intro bits quickly.

I would much rather have competent Rey going into 2+ more movies then literally copying Luke's story arc scene for scene. Let's not ignore that everyone would be bitching about that if it was just a boring rehash with no capable characters.

The idea of the first legit Jedi knight in fifty years cleaning house is much more interesting than another toddler to terror Skywalker alcoholism story.

you're missing the point. everybody understands that Rey was likely a pupil under Luke before Kylo went emo or whatever, and was probably gifted in the force before being mindwiped. that isn't lost on anybody here. the issue is that, within the confines of the established Star Wars universe, that isn't nearly sufficient enough of an explanation (nor does such an explanation exist) that makes it reasonable for someone in Rey's position to overcome someone like Kylo, no matter how many if's and but's you try to interject into her backstory.

Do you people really not understand how fast Luke progressed in the OT? At the very end of ESB, they are actually talking about meeting up to go get Solo on Tatooine. Just because there was 3 years between the release of the movies doesn't mean there was 3 years between the stories of ESB and ROTJ. Its more like at most a few weeks to a few months. (enough time to put together a new lightsaber and get Lando inside Jaba's palace) The only outside knowledge you would need is to have actually watched the OT without your head up your ass the whole time while doing so.

In the lightsaber fight between Luke and Vader in ESB, Vader is basically just toying with Luke. A few months later in ROTJ, Luke is able to kick his ass. OMG! How did Luke go Hulk mode and whup Vader's ass in ROTJ? Was Luke ever even given ANY sword or combat training prior to his lightsaber fights in ESB or ROTJ? He sure as fuck wasn't shown to be getting any on Dagobah.

I have no problem at all with the ending fight between Rey and Kylo. Kylo was clearly seriously wounded. Rey was still getting her ass kicked for the majority of the fight. Lets also not pretend like she had no fucking fighting abilities or experiences either. She kicked a group of people's asses with just a staff earlier in the movie along with laying Fin out on his ass.

ROTJ takes place at least a year after ESB. nice try though.

There were about a half dozen reasons it was perfectly rational, but then how boring would this thread be without the trolling?

Damn....if only we had a midichlorian count from Kylo and Rey, this argument would be over.

Same, my mom and sister went into this knowing literally nothing compared to us. Coming out they start to bring up Rey and thinking this is their issue I'm like "well she was obviously trained at some point and powerful with the force, but her memories..." except they say "yeah, yeah but is she someone's daughter?"

I know, its almost like the movie deliberately established her proficiency in hand to hand/melee weapon combat with that scene....

watched TESB and ROTJ last night for the first time in years. Maybe it's because I was super high but TESB blew me away and the bits of ROTJ that don't resemble Jim Hensons workshop are just as good.

It would be awesome if Kylo turned out to have very little natural force juice, and Luke told him "you must have at least this much force to ride". Fucked off and tuned his force through sheer will, spite, and hate.

JJA commented out that he feels cheated that he won't be directing Ep VIII now that he's read the script, so we JJA approves of the next movie.

I think the whole "force will guide your actions" thing is pretty significant. People tend to forget small details like that when talking about these abstract concepts, arguing who is more badass than who, or how could this happen? etc. but if Rey is truly an exceptional force user I guess her besting Kylo isnt that preposterous. I didnt like her quick learning arc either, or the fact she outdueled the most evil faction in the galaxy's enforcer, but when the force picks you, its better to be lucky than good at that point.
