Studios use piracy metrics sometimes (in HBO's case, its confirmed) as accounting for how popular a show or IP is.
It's best to just not even watch this, even if its for "free", you could technically be buying a proverbial ticket via meta-data.

Honestly don't think I will ever see it, but I won't change the channel if TFA comes on in the background.
JJ should have had all 3 movies but the asshole story group made TFA such a chore in pre-production he wouldn't consider it.
Now with Kennedy threatening a building burning and overstaying her welcome officially as of this month the entire franchise is shot.

These three movies should have been the easiest 7 billion that Disney ever made. Instead we got "Reskinned Memberberries", "Fuck You The Star Wars edition" and finally "Who Gives a FUCK, A Starwars Story". Now a whole division of IP is a smoldering ruin and we need 3-5 years off from it to try to bring it back.

I rewatched this today on a flight .... I honestly think it's a totally fine movie. It's not great, but it's not shit like so many of you say.

I continue to believe this about the Transformer franchise as well.
As of today it is the 13th highest grossing set of films with 4.3 billion dollars. Can you believe that? The first Transformers movie alone should have made 1.5 billion world wide (twice as much as it actually made), but they fucked it all up. They made an awesome story about robots into a fucking boring one about humans. Fucking Michael Bay.

Finally saw this because it was free on my flight home tonight. It was... soulless. I just didn't feel anything really. Which is actually worse than hating it. No emotion at all, kinda confirmation that this franchise is long dead. TFA had me a bit hopeful that they were moving in the right direction. But nope. TLJ was tragically bad and this one was a big chaotic mess.
Oh well.

Problem was people had question marks about the characters after TFA.
People had questions they needed answered with regard to character development.
TLJ ignored character-building and just bum-rushed a storyline that was taking place within a 14h window immediately after TFA. It was the ultimate franchise killer for that reason.
There was no room for anything to grow, no opera, no epic-- when your entire storyline is an episode of a TV serial. The events of TLJ took place within the same day. This is Star Wars, its supposed to have a few small time jumps and a feeling of a greater universe, a space opera.
Rian took the space opera out of Star Wars, and made a generic woke scifi blockbuster movie.

That was the fun of the original movies and even the prequels. We were seeing specific episodes in the story but there was so much room for peoples imagination to run wild between those tentpoles.
TLJ was TFA part 2 and that crippled any possibility of broader character or plot development because it was literally the same freaking day. So you have the opening of the sorry and then, suddenly, the end.
