A character can be gay or bi without it being woke or "political" or whatever. His character isn't "Hi im Bi Superhero aren't I just being progressive" Its "Im going to bang tiger lady or whatever in episode 2, and have a 3 some with Vigalantie in a different episode and whatever else". Dude just loves banging, good for him. Hes going to go on and have a really on again off again relationship with Harcourt. Its this part of the discourse I am so tired about, you can infact have it both ways if its written well, it just never is. The GAY black lesbian was super fucking conservative and monogamous and being gay nor black was part of why she was involved (it was actually fucking Nepotism).
Its like The Wire, Omar was super fucking gay but noone fucking cared cause the writing on that show was really damn impressive.

I have a hard time just flatout disliking Gunn's work or feeling afraid it'll be terrible.. or to an extent.. woke to the point of deep-throating agenda. At worst, I think it'll be entertaining and more satirical than serious.. I have enough respect for him for being a troma alumni and he gave us High Evolutionary mangled face on a disney movie.
And while it's a farcry of the past and to expect him to be at all similar in present day with investors.. I think the troma humor hasn't fully left him.

Pretty sure he's just jumping into a universe where heroes are already a thing. Which in a way gives him a lot more flexibility, and no need/commitment to doing origin stories. Which I can agree with. Also, a lot of DC canon heroes have been around and he's getting to make movies with the real A list up front (unlike Marvel who had to start off with B/C listers since other companies owned Spidey, mutants, and the FF) this means less of a need to do origins again, it's a cultural (almost mythological) level to which people know who Superman is, who Batman is, who Wonder Woman is...etc.
There's already a commitment that there is going to be a "Lanterns" series on HBO Max. And Gunn has said Guy Gardner will be part of it. Some are theorizing that the start of Lanterns is Hal Jordan being recalled to Earth from God knows where to investigate Gardner's murder, and Gardner's ring chooses John Stewart. That's completely theorizing at this point, but it fits. Also with Fillion having also been TDK in Suicide Squad I think it would be hilarious if he kept showing up as a character who gets to be in one movie, then killed.. rinse and repeat...
But it still breaks my heart a little because since Gunn said the Blue Beetle movie was canon for this DCU, and that established that Ted Kord was thought dead but alive somewhere, I was really hoping they'd have him play Ted Kord. Then bring in someone like James Vanderbeek as Booster Gold. At that point just do the late 80's Beetle/Booster stuff and late 80's style Justice League and proceed to print money.
And since I'm doing a wall of Text.... Krypto looked like that, IIRC, back in the 80s/90s at one point. Which is obviously going to be in Gunn's wheelhouse of when he was younger and probably into comics. Basically he looks like the all white version of a dog I had for years.

Didn’t John Stewart’s ring come from Hal Jordan though? I’d be happier if they went down the Parallax route with Hal and have the other Green Lanterns (and all the other Lanterns) involved. We need us some Larfleeze and Saint Walker action!
Oh, and despite liking the Luthor actor, awful casting.

I would say if the Lanters series get it's feet under it and is decent, then they do Paralax, or a version of it, somewhere around season 3 of Lanterns. Use the first season to introduce the parts and pieces, season 2 to set up, season 3 to do Paralax.
