I enjoyed X quite a bit, I was not able to do a complete play through- it was all an hour here and hour there so I really forgot what happend and could not connect the story very well- but I did get attached to the characters. In the trailer the first scene I literally said out loud during my first play "just kiss her already omg!"
Does X-2 add anything to the story or characters or is it just a bunch of dancing? lol
Are you sure your stuck on the last fight? I found the fight before the sin section of the end the hardest...but I like you- never really finished- I just read up on the end.. this could be a great excuse to replay and finish it.

As far as I remember, which is not very well, X-2 is basically a spin off, it uses the same setting and characters and takes place after X, but isn't a direct continuation of the story. The dancing part is actually pretty small(mostly a couple of cutscenes) and the combat was very fun, similar to what's in FF13/13-2 and apparently Lightning Returns, swapping classes on the fly and shit. It was a pretty fun game as far as I remember, but more so because the combat was good than because of the story.
Btw isn't that date like really close to Lightning Returns release date too? Sounds a bit weird they'd stack the sales like that especially since there's no hurry for a remake, they could have released it between lightning returns and FFXV.

X-2 actually is a continuation of the story. it picks up right where X left off, and does bring some bit of closure to the story. I thought some of the narrative elements were very compelling (Vegnagun), if you can get past the whole GIRL POWER! fluff, which is 98% of the game.

Oh well been too many years and I don't even remember what FFX was about, let alone X2. I vaguely remember water soccer and something about spirits or ghosts or whatever and the old guy Aursomething having an important role. So fucking vague ugh. Funny I remember shit I played as a kid more like Chrono Trigger and FF6 than basically anything after that.

X-2 also has one of the best combat systems in the series.
The date is fine with me, and about what I expected considering the Japanese release date. I should have a Vita by then so I can just buy X-2 (to play the International+Last Mission content that has never been released in English before), and because fuck X.

FFX-2 was such fan service too. I remember being like 15 at the time and going to best buy to get the game and being nervous to pick it up because my mom was with me and I thought the cover was so sexy and I thought my mom wouldn't let me buy it. Also iirc you could get like Scan level 3 or something and the whole purpose of that was so you could scan your own characters and rotate them. Upskirt baby!!!!!!! It's been a long time since I've played either of those games, definitely be fun to pick them up and replay them. Plus, now 10 years later I can get my HD Upskirt Level 3 Scans amirite?!?!

Fortunately, it's exactly what I want, and it's the end of the XIII series regardless so I don't care how well it sells.
The Famitsu review (37/40) claims it's not only a good game but also a very hard one so I'm looking forward to it even more than before. They also said that the time constraint is a non-issue as far as how you play the game, which was my main concern. I had visions of some godawful shit like Dead Rising 2's time mechanic, which made that game one of the worst I've ever played.
