Craft beer hipsters would probably crucify me for saying this, but there are few beers better than a Leinenkugels Summer Shandy on a hot summer day. It's pretty much the perfect beach/activity beer when you're out in the heat. So damn refreshing. Spent my day off yesterday putting together a new patio furniture set, couple hours out in the sun and it was a perfect 75 degrees and sunny. I don't even know how many Summer Shandy's I put down, but they were so goddamn good

Costco had cases of bottles for like $22, I'm going to go stock up for the summer. Lot of projects to work on in the yard this year.

I hate that beer personally (shandys, not just Leinie's), but know quite a few people who like it (that also like other craft beer). They all like it the same way though: ice cold and on a hot day. At that point you can drink ram's piss at near-freezing and it would be refreshing though. I guess I'd just rather have a berlinerweisse or saison.

If you want to try a different brewery I'd suggest Curious Traveler shandy. It's better imo. Bonus: it's year round too.

They have expanded the beer choices at the larger liquor store that I don't usually frequent. Unfortunately last night when I stopped by on the way home I was too drunk and had to pee so couldn't pull out my phone and check the thread. Saw Founders, Young's, and a couple of other names that rang a bell from in here. Will have to stop by during the week sometime.

Founder's is usually awesome. Their bombers are usually top-notch. I love their Double Trouble DIPA.

Pretty much every abita beer is bad from my experience.

See if you can find Grapefruit Slam IPA by Stone. It's getting just average reviews but it's worth a shot.

Drinking this right now, about 1/2 way through a bomber. If you really like grapefruit (like grapefruit juice) you may enjoy this, but if it is the subtle grapefruit notes you get from the "C" hops that you enjoy, this isn't just more of that goodness. It is a strong grapefruit flavor. For me personally it is a "meh" beer, well constructed for what it is, but not up my alley. Probably won't be buying anymore.

Drinking a Boulevard Saison-Brett right now and damn, tasty. What IPA's are to hops, this beer is to yeast & bugs.

I do like the Saison-Brett. Also try their Two Jokers, which should be available in June. It's their best Belgian-style witbier. They haven't made Two Jokers in a couple years, but they are busting it out again this summer.

I've never had theirs or any other saison-brett. By bugs do you mean what is commonly called funk or farmhouse funk?

Yes, bugs = brett. Brett (or Brettanomyces) is typically a mix of brett yeast and bacteria cultures that provide "the funk." For that particular beer style, typically they use a saison yeast and ferment is warm to get a lot of those fruity esters and then either co-pitch some brett, or they add the brett after the saison yeast is done doing its thing to let the brett finish off the beer and to add the funk.

Better than expected. It actually DOES taste like a chocolate covered cherry - and not artificially. Really sweet though. I'd say Zhukov is still my favorite stout by them.

Nah bro I chug black ipas at the beach.

I think craft beer people realize that different beers have different places. Personally I find Summer Shandy too sweet and I don't really like supporting the massive beer corporations.

Not to mention that different people taste things differently. Body chemistry and palate sensitivity do make a difference (I learned that with tobaccos). Personally, Summer Shandy isn't overly sweet, but I pick up way to much of the bitter flavor of lemon peel pith to stomach.

I mentioned in an earlier thread my newly found beer of the moment, Duvel. Can anyone explain why the 750ml is more expensive than buying three of the 330ml bottles(at Total Wine, at least)? It makes no sense to me.

Could be. I need to compare other beers' big/little bottle pricing next time I'm there, to see if it's consistent.

Packaging is also more expensive for 750ml bottles. But yeah, there is no reason to buy a 22oz/750ml bottle of something that is also available in 6 packs as the per ounce price of the 6 pack will be drastically cheaper (at least that has been my experience here in WA). I only buy bombers of stuff that isn't available in any other packaging.

I actually like to try bombers before I try a sixer of something. 72 oz vs 22 oz. (or 64 or 48, etc). Sometimes if I'm hesitant about something, I'll look for a sampling or bomber.
