That's funny... the beer club I'm in had it's monthly meeting last night and it was Sours night.

Schell's North Country Brunette (Sour Marzen)
Timmermans Oude Gueuze
Cuvee Des Jacobins Rouge
Rodenback Grand Cru
Jolly Pumpkin Luciernaga
De Proefbrouwerij Zoetzuur Flemish Ale
New Belgium La Folie 2014
Brau Brother Bancreagie 26 (Sour Peated Ale)

The line up was awesome. I especially loved the Timmermans and the Schell's.
Just curious, what is beer club like? Do you guys go to a BYOB restaurant or something? I imagine it like Frasier and Niles and their wine club except with normal looking guys.

It's actually hosted a guy's house; he's got a pretty nice bar setup. He does all the buying and coordination (sheets with ratings on it, guests, etc), and we all pay him money. It's a pretty sweet deal. The HMFIC also does some charity events and other stuff. A style or theme is picked for each month, and it goes forward from that. It's only 3-7oz samples of each, and cost is $10. Some times he loses his shirt (like sours or quads month), or months he picks up a small surplus (Pale Ales or American Light Lagers). Sometimes people kick in additional funding to help out.

Had a beer tasting event hosted by one of my distributors. I don't think I have seen anyone else in the Seattle area in this thread, but if you are out there, get to the Bellevue Brewing Co. and get some of their Triple Wheat IPA. An absolutely amazing beer, and checking in at a 12.2% that drinks like a beer with half that alcohol content, it is dangerously drinkable.

Got myself some Bourbon County Brand Barleywine from Goose Island last night. Fuck was it good, but I got some bubblegut after the second glass.

Nope. They still make great beer. The bourbon county stouts being one excellent line of them.

does goose turn anyone else off after anheuser busch bought it?
I was never a big 312 guy, but I think the rest are still made in Chicago under the same brewers (the belgians and the bourbon counties). I still don't buy 312 (or really, any of other "normal" beers like hex nut or honker's), but Matilda, Sofie, Lolita, Pepe Nero, Bourbon County, etc, have still been consistently great.

I stand corrected! The beer is still good though. I didn't read the articles, did they say they left because of ABIn-Bev buying or is it part of the natural churn for new breweries by experienced brewers?

Well all the departures happened within two years of the sale so it was all speculation but a lot of local people always believed it was caused by the InBev purchase, even though guys like Rouben brewed stuff that was only available via draft at the Goose Island Brew Pubs and never bottled for sale or outsourced to other breweries like 312 and Honkers Ale were.

So really I'm sure it was much more as you described.

And the brewpubs were spun off and allowed to use the name and brew the beer, but are separate entities from ABIn-Bev-GI, right?

Would it be too logical for AB to just establish a true craft brewery within their current system? It won't be "craft" by definition, but it can have soul and taste if they do it right.

Yeah, I don't get the war on craft breweries so they can't produce anything. The consumer money speaks and that's what people want. This is detrimental to the Big 3 honestly. The backlash from the beer community isn't enough to affect them in a major way, but I'm starting to see more and more bars that don't even serve any of the Big 3. If you want a pilsner, you either get a local version or Trumer/Stella.

They really should just focus on making a quality product to compete.

Sipping on a Goose Island Gillian right now. It's a belgian farmhouse (sour). It's wonderful.

I'm sure most people have absolutely no idea how massive the scope of beers owned by the Big 3 are. I certainly didn't know Stella was owned by AB, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Let's be honest, if it isn't Miller or Coors or Budweiser I'm sure 90%+ think they are drinking some microbrew or independent brewery and patting themselves on the back for sticking it to the man.
