They should have just had it attach the games serial number to your account onlinewhen you installand require installation to run the games. Would have cut the 24hr check in drama and done away with the disc swapping bullshit at the same time. How long has everyone been doing that shit on PC? It's fucking silly.

Maybe someone at MS could have researched Steam and found out that it works offline for months at a time.

Maybe they could have made the policy only apply to digital games, or let you bypass the check by inserting the disk.

Maybe, derp when you herp etc.
I think they'll pivot to some of these options in the fairly near future post-launch, but going to them now rather than the simplified mea culpa would just cause more confusion. I've still seen people say they don't allow used games and you have to be always online and neither were ever true.

A new report at Eurogamer claims that Microsoft has managed to increase the bandwidth on the final Xbox One hardware to as much as 192 GB/s, roughly an 88% increase with respect to the original bandwidth. The report says that Microsoft discovered in the final Xbox One hardware that their eSRAM can handle read/write operations simultaneously, translating the 102 GB/s (when calculating for separate read/write operations) to a more impressive 192 GB/s.

Hopefully they'll wise up and make the digital download version cost $15-$20 less than retail, they can have the DD version do an online check as often as they want and noone would care if it cost less and was out on day one of the games release. If the secondary market is hurting devs profits they should jump at the chance for a piracy proof version of the game for $15 dollars less that will never enter the used/rental market.

I have no expectation of this, my only hope is that competition with PSN+ dictates more reasonable and realistic digital pricing/sales. Really the only way I see online day 1 digital being less than full MSRP is if you buy the voucher or something from a retailer. Maybe in the long run w/ Azure participating retailers can just offer their own deals/services w/ vouchers on their websites and tie them into existing pre-order bonuses and whatnot.

You're thinking from a "protect the retailer" point of view. I'm thinking from a "who needs retail" point of view. Gamefly=blockbuster=record stores=gamestop=obsolete so fuck em.

That's nice, but the publishers aren't going to burn retailers like that. Until then I expect those who want to go all digital will essentially pay a premium to do so, while those who want digital and a lower price day one as a reward for doing so will be left wanting (me included).

They won't burn retailers? MS tried to singlehandedly throw GameStop into bankruptcy.

Unless they were one of the 'participating retailers' and had been able to sell/buy used games.

Case in point, impressions like the above are why we don't have a hybrid of what they were offering and instead we'll get some form of it later as an option.

It doesn't anymore. Two weeks and then you have to reauthorize.

Its a fairly recent change from my understanding.
Been well over that since I've logged my PC in to Steam personally and it's not giving me any hiccups right now.

The simple fact they didn't understand this before astonishes me in every sense of the word.

Holy ineptitude.

But don't the devs have to code a bit differently to take advantage of the eSRAM on the XBone? Sort of like how they had to learn to use the SPUs of the Cell on PS3 properly to get the same performance as the 360?

And if that is true, when some were talking about the lowest common denominator earlier, wouldn't that make the PS4 the common denominator since it will be "easier" to code for?

Just asking, I am not sure I am correct.

Depends on what they end up using it for, I know they tried to do an always on lossless anti-aliasing thing with the 360 but the 10mb esram was too small for the resolutions the games were being made at. they could have the os or dev tools automatically put high-priority filtering stuff in the esram. Then again it could just end up being used as a regular cache buffer and end up being meaningless. No way of knowing for sure.

Yeah that may definitely be the case, when comparing the vague information MS gave on it. How many developers are coding for separate read/writes, and how many will code to take advantage of the simultaneous read writes? Is there a difference in coding? If so, it's all marketing bullshit.

The next free offering in Microsoft's Games with Gold program is aging Xbox Live Arcade title Defense Grid: The Awakening, Microsoft has announced.

Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download the tower defense game for free today until 15th July, Major Nelson revealed. It's usually 800 Microsoft Points - a saving of ?6.80.
Anyone else find this hilarious and sad at the same time?

And Defense Grid is a good game don't get me wrong. But its been 2.50 on Steam several times now.
