Could the network code within the playstion version COD be worse then the xbox version? Genuine question
Internal code? Possible but unlikely.

Honestly the most likely possibility to me is the default WiFi available on PS3 versus the only option without adapter on 360 being wired ethernet - since on top of the WiFi being worse than Ethernet in general specifically the PS3 WiFi is poor. So the general assumption is that a player that is hosting on PS3 has a good chance of being on WiFi (since almost every "dumb consumer" [FOH forums likely are an exception to the rule here] prefers wireless over wired for all applications) since its free and doesn't require anything extra whereas for 360 since wireless is a separate doodad to purchase for many of it's models the assumption is that there's high odds of them being hardwired to save bucks on the adapter.

Plus even for the one's on WiFi since it's an optional thing with an upcharge item largely the quality of the wireless is probably higher unlike PS3's notoriously shitty internal wireless.

Oh man, I forgot about how bad the ps3 wifi was. I think it's the default too. I've had to go into the settings and enable wired connection at least twice. I could see a lot of people just not realizing that it's picking up their neighbors open crappy connection that half the neighborhood is leaching. Does it auto-detect and use wi-fi? I remember enabling it once, and for some reason it defaulted to that a few times after not being used for ages, or power outages.

Can confirm the PS3 wifi is complete garbage. The one I bought last christmas has never actually worked, ever. If it will connect to wifi (this is a big if) it can't even stream standard def Netflix, much less play games or download their colossal patches.

I use wifi to send files over FTP almost weekly to my first gen slim PS3 at 2.1mb/s, works fine. If there's a problem with your connections it's probably just your routers or something. Sure, using ethernet boosts it to like 17-18mb/s, but for normal usage wifi is more than acceptable.

Lenas: It works great in an ideal situation, but with ANY and I mean ANY interference the quality drops to shit.

Even my wife's PS3 that has to use WiFi (from lack of hardwire spots since I don't want to daisy chain routers) which is literally 4 feet away from the router itself gets a terribly slow connection - even compared to using the laptops on another floor.

Perhaps there's some configuration stuff on router side that could improve the connection, I've not tweaked this routers defaults too much (I did on the old Netgear, not on the new FiOS modem/router combo thingy) - but I can guarantee most consumers would tweak theirs even less than I.

It's not the router, believe me. I've tried every available channel, 2.4/5ghz spectrum, every encryption type, 3 different routers since I just moved. Everything else I own works fine. PS3 will sometimes connect if I leave the router unsecured and use MAC filtering, but even that is dodgy at best.

Thought it might just be a bad PS3 I got, but the one my friend brought over did the same thing.

2.1mb/sec is acceptable to you? I would move if that was the best internet connection available, for local network that's like what, 1998 speed? shit, 10mbit was already possible with 10base2

2.1MB/s transfer to the PS3 over wifi, sorry I didn't capitalize the MB. Your retard post is irrelevant anyway because network transfer speeds have nothing to do with my internet connection. The bottleneck would be in the PS3's 54mb/s wireless max. Yes technically that means 6MB/s should be possible but 2MB/s is not "shit."

ps3 wifi wasn't that good, but I would never use wifi for gaming on a PC either, so I don't really see it as a negative. Atleast the ps3 didn't force you to buy a wireless adapter to even have it available.

I have used PS3 wifi since PS3 launch and never experienced an issue. Do you guys use wireless routers built out of cardboard with little plastic antennas glued on them or something?

It even worked with Verizon's god awful router/modem stupidass thing they make you use.

My fat 60gig gen 1 ps3 does fine on wifi, and my 1st gen slim 120gig is upstairs and a room or two to the side of the router that is downstairs and it streams HD Netflix/hulu all day long- if it has an issue I usually reset my router and cable modem and everything is peachy keen.

edit: its better than having to buy a stupid wifi add on for your 360! but I suppose the new systems have it built in :p one of the reasons I never bought a low end 360 just to play halo etc

I've owned the 1st gen backwards compat ps3 and one of the later ones and both of them performed slow on wifi. I never had the connect issues some of you guys are mentioning, but comparing it to XBL speed is like night and day.

yeah sorry you can't actually use proper sizes when talking about technical details, which makes my post a retard post. It's only the factor 8 that you conveniently ignore here because hurr durr who cares about correct spelling on teh internetz?

If your network transfer speed is actually slower than your internet connection, it also happens to matter. You think you get 54mb/s on any wireless connection up to n-standard? Maybe if your router is right on top of your fucking box. If there's just 1 sheet of drywall between it, it goes way down. Or let me guess, you have the only PS3 and router on the planet that work with 802.11ac?

dipshits like you are the dipshits going OMG WHY DOES ME 1TB HD ONLY SHOW AS 976GB ?! WHO STOELED MY MEGAHURTS

Honestly, it's like half the people posting about wireless have never actually looked at how many packets are dropped / how shitty the latency is, even on a "good" connection. Wireless is shit, most of the time. It's just convenient. That's why people put up with it.

I hate talking to people at work or bars about this. When we bought our house I was trying to find references for local home audio / networking companies to run CAT5e / CAT6 throughout the house. And everyone was like, "lol wireless."
