Also: what is the frame rate of NES games?
I can't comment on the FPS of NES games (nothing ever seemed slow on them), but my god were the frame rates on the 3DO horrible.

I had one a little after it came out. Got it used at Game Stop, and kept it until finally getting a PlayStation 1. What sucks is that I never owned an SNES. Went from Atari 2600 -> NES -> 3DO -> PS1 -> PS2 -> PS3 -> Wii -> PS4 -> Wii U.

Anyway, I had Need For Speed on the 3DO, and it was so damn slow. I didn't understand the concept of FPS back then, but I remember the game seemed to crawl when there were a lot of things on screen at any time.

Space Hulk also ran really slow at times. It was a fun game, though.

Why would you pick a 3DO over SNES? Weren't they quite a bit more expensive than a SNES to begin with? I'm probably wrong. It has been a long ass time. lol

My dad was 100% against buying me another video game console (specifically SNES) "They're a waste of time and will rot your brain". I happened to be walking by a Game Stop and went in to look for a standard NES game and they said they pretty much no longer sold them. We saw that they had a used 3DO that was really inexpensive all things considered, so I bitched enough that he bought it for me.

That's about all. In other news, Return Fire for the 3DO is one of my most memorable multi player games to date. I LOVED that one. Would play it all day long with a few friends.

You missed the boat on the SNES that was a fantastic system. Of course not nearly as much as you missed the boat on Action Max. On topic. PS4 won.

Fuck me, I remember that the 3DO system and games were literally 2-3 times as expensive as any other console system of the time.

Nah, that was Neo Geo. It's cartridges were upwards of 150 bucks or more. 3DO was very expensive(the console), but the games were CDs and priced the same or cheaper than the other consoles.

Those Neo Geo games were fucking godlike though. Like they looked so fucking good and ran a lot better than SNES games and shit. Just yeah, they were expensive as fuck so you'd buy one game a year. Not that there were that many games on Neo Geo anyway, other than the thousand of fighting games. I had a Neo Geo for a bit as a kid but ended up reselling it cause it was really pointless, plus I also had a SNES and spent a lot more time playing that. Golden age of jrpgs, so many great games. 3DO I skipped on. I did buy a Jaguar though, which had like one good game(Alien vs Predator). Also bought a Saturn but luckily resold it only a few weeks later to a friend who really wanted one for like 80% of the price. I skipped on the Dreamcast after that, and didn't miss a whole lot. Also skipped on N64 at the time, think it was PS1 era? Or I was just playing mmos.

My brother and I split the original 3DO for 700 bucks. This was in my early 20's and my friends and I were eating tons of acid. The fractal program that 3DO came with was worth the price alone!

Neo Geo games had more room for video elements (so bigger sprites or lots of detailed animations) and possibly more colors. The problem though is that it was all short arcade games with infinite credits and that most games were shit (exceptions being the Samurai Spirits/Showdown serie and the Metal Slug serie - I also have a special place in my heart for Nam 1975 and Magician Lord even if they are pretty much shit). The initial business model for this console in Japan was to rent it btw. I suspect it did not work so well!

I always had the weird consuls (outside of NES/SNES). My friends all had Atari I had an intellivision. They got a Gameboy I got a game gear. I did get the Turbo Graphix 16 before anyone else had a 16 bit. I was like king for the year then they all got SNES and I was old news. It sucked NEVER having anyone to trade games with outside of NES and the much later SNES.

Do you guys remember the Turbo Express 16 bit handheld? it was freaking huge !

I knew of Bonk's Adventure. This kid I knew had parents that my dad did business with. He had a Turbo Graphix 16, and we would play Bonk any time I was over their house.

EDIT: I also had a Game Gear because I wanted a color hand held system because it didn't need light. I saved up my allowance for MONTHS to buy it. Ended up getting Mortal Kombat, a couple of Sonic games, Ecco the Dolphin, this F16 one where you had to land on an aircraft carrier... Hmm, I know I had more games, just don't remember them. I mostly played Sonic & Ecco, though.

The jet game was super sweet. so was joe Montana football, well until I learned you could complete a Hail Mary on almost every play. Sonic was very fun as well

Ecco! Hell yeah! That was actually pretty fun. My brother had it. He had a genesis and I had an snes. We played MK on the genesis because it had blood and snes had sweat and wack fatalities. Hella used game genie to fight as buggy Goro on snes though!

I still need to get one of these for the pretty cool Alien vs Predator game that was on it. That and Tempest 2000 are as far as I know they only two games worth playing on the system.

I had that! Used some of the money I got for my confirmation when I was 14 or something. I could have gotten playstation, but that was 32 bit, Jaguar was 64!

That controller, with the slide in plastic covers to let you know what buttons did what on the different games. I had Doom, Alien vs Predator and a flying game where some annoying commentator said "where did you learn to fly?" every time you bumped into something.

AvP was quite fun, but that was a horrible system. Games were so expensive for it as well. Well similarly to PS4 games on the PSN now.

I had a Jaguar too. AvP was the only game even worth looking at.. everything else was terrible fucking shit.

I lent my system to my best friend in middle school and the dude's family straight up left one day and moved several states away. Never saw my Jaguar again, parents were pissed.
