Not that this is following the comics anymore but Butcher is a cunt just like everyone else. Kripke has created and improved on characters/story but also fucked up a ton. As much as I love Soldier boy, I want the black noir storyline

There was a brief throwaway dialogue of someone mentioned how SB was hosing down protestors in the 60s and something else but yeah it was bizarre how everyone kept SAYING Soldier Boy was the worst but we literally didn't see any of it, other than him randomly blacking out and blowing up when hearing Russian music. I figured they knew Jensen Ackles makes ladies wetter than Miami and didn't want female viewers to get turned off.

I agree - I wish they had shown more of *why* Soldier Boy is a piece of shit. Only thing we really get as an audience is that he fucked up Black Noir (and who cares if a piece of shit beats the fuck out of another piece of shit?) or that he says/acts the way I would think a guy who lived during the WW2 era would think and talk.
The racist line felt off, but also kinda appropriate I guess? But as an audience I see SB as discriminating against everyone, because he sees almost everyone the same (theyre all just lesser than him). So having MM call him that was kinda off.

They showed a little bit of his reactions to present day Manhattan and the people that he saw there. Some fags, some joggers both at whom he shook his head. But thats not enough to establish that he is racist or homophobe. Then again, its 2022 and any amount of wrongthink is evil so I guess the worthless writers thought it was enough.

i got the impression from MM that he thought SB was racist specifically because he was doing the same thing that blue hawk was doing. though i might have just inferred that?
SB isn't a good guy, but he suffers from the same thing that homelander does in that the actor that portrays him is just so charming that you can't help but cut them slack

His reaction feels normal for what I would expect out of someone who is from the WW2 era and put into present day - social issues and the world has changed a ton in 50+ years. SB's portrayal feels more realistic compared to how Captain America went through this same 'man out of time' theme
And in those scenes, maybe he showed a little bit of disgust? I dunno, to me it felt more like a culture shock moment for him more than anything else.
They just needed to write 1/2 scenes showing SB doing something as horrific as Homelander/Meave did with the plane scene in s1 to really get the audience to buy in why SB is worse than Homelander and why his team betrayed him (his team is a bunch of pos in their own right, so loss of credibility there).
