i know many that moved from cigs to vapes. some still vape, some quit both. only one i know that still smokes cigs only tried a few vape pens which are notoriously unreliable and eventually break.

that pen looks to be of decent quality, but that would be my main concern. 2nd, is due to it's size, is battery life. can it go a whole day w/o needing to be charged?

if it breaks or runs out of battery, your dad will go back to cigs.

the good thing is most that give vaping a solid try for a week or more, no cigs in that time, have a pretty good success rate in not going back. they will try a cig eventually and realize all the other flavors that they don't want.
Good point. He's not one to fiddle with things, so this for sure won't turn into a hobby thing like I see others in this thread have done. I just know that my co-worker seems to have good luck with his, and it's fairly discrete, and doesn't look like your smoking some huge brick. Granted, those huge brick type vapes probably have great battery life. lol

I fiddled with and bought a bunch of different stuff when i started because the "starter kit" i bought just wasn't quite enough. Finally got a mod with the battery life to go a little over a day, and a tank with good draw and was simple. Sigelei 200 and Arctic Horizon V8 w/ Hive coils. It's all i ever use any more. Partner with some good flavors from VapeWild for cheap as shit and coils locally my monthly cost is in the range of $50-$60. There's so much good equipment available today it doesn't need to be a hobby unless you want it to be.

I still love my kanger sub tanks. Even better now since they have top fill on the newer ones. They come with an RTA coil base, or you can just buy coils for it too. But I build my own. I have it down so I can roll up a new coil, wick it and have it installed in the RTA within 5 min. 12 wraps of 26ga around a 3mm mini screwdriver produces a 1.5ohm coil. Plus you can just reuse the coil, remove the burnt cotton, burn it off red hot at like 25-30W for a few seconds a couple of times, all the crud just burns off. Then re-wick with new cotton and you are good to go. You can make a coil last like a month, even more. I think the one that the wife has in hers has been running strong for a few months now. Just remove the spent cotton, burn off the shit, and rewick. Why spend $$ for pre built coils that last for like a week? You dont have to go crazy with the claptons, or the aliens or whatever the latest fad is, in my opinion I have never really noticed a big difference. Just roll up a simple coil, insert and enjoy.

No my coils are not sub ohm, but I like my mouth to lung hits, plus my 120ml 20mg juice that I brew up lasts me for a few months. Basically one tank per day, I tried the sub ohm thing for a while and I just found myself having to brew up new batches of juice far too often, I was doing like 3-4 tankfulls every day, plus the 3mg juice was just not satisfying like the 20mg stuff. Plus the 1.5 ohm coils I burn at 12.5W (the wife burns them at 10W), which you only need a single battery (smaller) mod, and the battery lasts for like a day or even a day and a half if its a good high cap, high drain.

This dude at work does the single battery mod with a sub ohm setup and he goes through batteries like crazy. IMO the whole sub ohm thing is just not worth it IMO. Big clouds that make you look like an idiot, thats about it.

Just about to put a new order in for my wife and I . 2-3 kanger toptanks, some spare glass for them (We broke like 2 tank glass in the last week. One when I was mowing the lawn and I crushed it in my pocket with the mower handle, and the second was our cat knocking a mod and tank down from the counter to the floor. Bad week)

I also need some more cotton for wicking and Im going to pick some more 26ga kanthol wire too. Maybe some more 18650 batteries. A few of ours are getting old and do not hold a full charge anymore.

So, very soon (like, within a week) the FDA regulation goes into effect. If the amendment to that regulation doesn't pass, you are gonna start seeing a lot less options at your shops over the next year.

I think it starts on Monday. Is the amendment you're speaking of the two year extension for compliance?

No, HR 2058, which basically changes the 'grandfather' date for products to things already on the market, instead of like 2005 which is what they currently have.

basically, the crappy basic e-cigs are mostly exempt from the $1mil application fee to be reviewed by the FDA, but every single flavor and nic level combo of juice, every tank, battery, etc.. has to be reviewed by the FDA and each one costs $1mil to even apply. So, if a company has 4 flavors of juice in 3, 6, 12 and 24mg of nic, they have to pay $16million just to have their entire line tested by the FDA and it may not even pass.

This clearly benefits the big tobacco companies, as they own FUZE, BLU, nJoy, etc.. and they only have a handful of different products in those lines. Companies like Kanger or Mt Baker is too small to afford those kind of fees for how big of a product line they have.
95% of the liquids on the market will start to disappear in the next year or two, some of the bigger companies will merge to save costs and reduce their product lines to a more affordable number.

HR2058 is just a band aid that allows all the products that were already on the market in 2015 to be grandfathered in and exempt from the application fee.
casaa.org is an easy way to get involved. You can just type in your zip code and send a pre-generated email to your representatives to support HR2058, assuming you dont want to write your own email out. Though if anyone writes one with their own story of what vaping has done for you to quit smoking, those can be more impactful. Either way, the more congressmen that see their constituents care about this, the more likely it'll be to pass.

Yea, pretty clearly a big tobacco agenda, but if we get enough people bitching to their representatives, could actually change it. They are counting on slipping it past without people really complaining.

Yeah I just ordered some tanks and a few more mods for me and the wife just to be safe. As for the liquids, I brew my own and they are not, or at least from what Im hearing, going after regulating the sale of nic and flavors to mix your own.

Im kind of wondering how they will handle the China shit though. Can they really stop the sale of chinese shit online?

But yeah, this shit has big tobacco smell all over it. I bet we will still see shitty blue ecigs in gas stations.

So, if the companies that make the base flavors are smart, the flavors themselves may not be under FDA regulation, only once you add nicotine to them.

However, once you make a flavor and add nic to it, you can't sell it if it hasn't been approved by the FDA. The trick may be to order whatever flavor you want online, then mix the nic in on your own. Problem is, without the brick n mortar businesses to support the companies, it'll cannibalize the industry till only the largest one or two are left.

They can't totally stop China from selling, but if customs stops the package you could be in trouble I believe. Don't quote me on the legalities, but if it's similar to other contraband, that is what normally happens. i.e. trying to ship cigars from cuba to here.

you can't get in trouble for someone shipping it to you. i could ship you an pound of weed, why would you be punished? you could be punished if they were able to prove you asked me to ship it to you. i know people that have ordered weed seeds from overseas, they come tapped inside used music cds. if customs stops it, you're just out the seeds. i doubt customs is going to open a serious investigation for every <$20 order of nicotine juice.

what would be smart is someone makes a concentrated nic w/o flavor, and you add a few drops depending how much nic you want. it's the actual drug that should be regulated

Yea, they arent going to prosecute each case, but if they see a trend of the same person ordering its easy to prove intent. I dont think its likely that anyone would get in trouble, but its more likely then the overseas vendor being prosecuted.

Also, they have exactly that. Its called nic booster. But, according to my friend who owns a local shop, even the 0 nicotine stuff falls under their regulation. Tanks, coils, batteries, etc.. are all classified as tobacco products now as well. Technically, they arent supposed to build or fix your equipment (like building a coil) anymore or let people try flavors for free. He is still going to do both of those things, just a little more sparingly.

I also ended up with the top tank as my primary. I had used normal kanger sub nanos/minis/mega and smoks tfv4 and a couple others. In the end the kanger top tank is my favorite. Since I am not busting the seal every fill like a normal kanger the lower orings last longer before leaking. It doesn't suck up 50ml of juice in a few days like a tfv4 46,000 coil tank(sarcasm) and is super easy to find knock off parts for( glass replacements, although the rubber rings smok provided with theirs protects it pretty good. Been using Clapton Atom coils in my top tank pretty happily and also use the rba2 it came with but out of heavy gauge wire atm. I use it on a IPV4s mod so double battery and lasts all day and then some with a d4 nitecore charger and some samsung 25r batteries. My juice is typically 70/30 vg/pg and I stick to eggnog, cereal and doughnut flavors. I shouldn't be using it at all given my stage of heart failure but the other option is smoking again.

Sorry about your condition bro. hope everything is OK. And this shit is way better than smoking like you used to. you were like a 2+ pack a day smoker, weren't you?

Yeah I like the top tanks.I like their normal older tanks too. Kanger has never failed me. I tried all sorts of other shit, single coil dual coil, sub ohm, etc...But my trusty kangers never fail. and like you said, parts for them are easy to find anywhere.

I also went back to normal ohms too. fuck sub ohm. Its nice to get back to mouth to lung hits like in the OG days of vaping. At 3mg the juice we were going through was crazy. I was brewing that shit up every week. Going through like 3-4 tank fulls every day. So I now roll up 1.5 ohm coils and went back to mixing 18-20mg juice. For one I find myself not chain vaping like I was with the 3mg. Second, one tank lasts me all day long. Third, doing a 1.5ohm at like 12-13 watts makes battery management way better. In a single battery mod, Im getting like 1- 1.5 days with one good battery.

That should be good for you as a consumer, less shady dealers, healthier product, right? That's the idea anyway. Sorry for parachute, love this thread. Continue :)

Well im for some regulation too. Its like, I dont want some shit that some dude mixed in his bathtub. But there is other ways to regulate this than what the FDA did.

Yea, everyone agrees there should be SOME amount of regulation, but what they are doing is going too far. Something like a 50k application fee would still weed out the shady guys who aren't serious about the business while still allowing a variety of products to exist on the market. $1mil is just :raises hand above head: too damn high!
