Interesting episode. I wasn't expecting the Somnambulist to be there, nor what they did with it by moving the Sutayaporns from Ganymede's surface to there (and the end of episode).

As a book reader, I'm a bit thrown off because the timelines are a lot twisted and compacted compared to the books (in the books, the Ganymede incident occurs years after Eros, and by then, everyone knows about the protomolecule, the Venus growths, etc. , so the whole idea of a cover-up wouldn't have made sense). And that Bobbie is still underplayed compared to the books.

Only 4 episodes left; I'm no longer convinced they want to wrap S2 with the end of book 2. They still can, but it's going to be messy.

Liking this season much better than the first. Starting to get really impressive as people are coming into their roles and the budget seems to have improved. Definitely different timeline than the books, but I've given up trying to make the two versions mesh and I've just been watching the show for what it is. Much more enjoyable that way.

I'm not a fan of shows that beat you over the head with plot devices and dialog that is clearly intended to explain the story/background to the audience (see As You Know - TV Tropes). This show doesn't do that, and I appreciate that. Still, I wish they could manage subtle ways to help the audience follow the pretty complex plot.

?
I feel like the show is super easy to follow. Do you happen to have a phone that needs looking at every 20 seconds? Because I watch this show with someone who can't put it the fuck down and I spend more time telling them what just happened than watching the show.

Nah, my ex used to do that shit. Drove me crazy. When I'm watching a show I'm not doing anything else.

I'm following the show just fine- but I feel like it's because I read the books. Several times I have caught myself thinking, well, I know what's happening because I read the book, but otherwise I'd be a little lost.

That feeling has been reinforced by several people in this thread who haven't read the books expressing confusion and by several people I know personally in the same situation.

I'm not saying the show is impossible to follow, but if you're saying the plot is clear as glass I'd bet lots of non-book readers would disagree with you.

Its already been renewed for season 3, that podcast was setup literally hours before the renewal announcement (I listened to the podcast and it was kinda funny to listen to them scramble to react to the news). Intl also is helping Expanse a lot, with it being on amazon in European markets for s1 & s2, etc. But yeah, this is the sci fi show most sci fi fans have wanted for years and its a bit disappointing the live numbers aren't as strong as they should be, although the +7 and itunes/amazon prime numbers seem pretty strong, the few times we've seen numbers leak out.

“I watched that special they did with Adam Savage, where he was going behind the scenes of The Expanse, and at the end of that they had a little snippet of Season 2—this was before Season 2 started airing—and it was that scene with Bobbi and the Martians doing their training, and it’s this really intense action sequence with people in power armor. If you could take that sequence, or one of the big space battles, and advertise it in a movie theater—I mean, with all the movies that are out there right now that are all science fiction and fantasy oriented, even the superhero stuff, if you aired that kind of thing in front of one of those movies, it seems like that would drive a lot of people to go watch the show that haven’t tried it.”

That seems like a really fucking good idea. I imagine the movie spots they did for Westworld are a big part of why it was such a huge success.

That said, if they cancel this, I'm literally never going to watch another scifi series unless it's reached it's completion. Same deal I made with epic fantasy series' after GRRM took his "fuck you" money and threw in the towel. I can't take being hurt again :(

Although it's great that it's gotten a third season, it's a shame Amazon snagged it instead of netflix.

Netflix is doing for prestige TV today what syndication used to back in the 70s to the 90s: it grows their audiences and extends their life. Breaking Bad's producers credit Netflix for saving the show and claim it added three seasons to the series' life.

Obviously Amazon is great news but they don't have the same legs as netflix.

pretty sure Amazon is only the US market (maybe NA not sure)
but it is on Netflix in most other countries.

btw, what is the deal with the censorship
live syfy is uncensored
syfy now app is censored as is comcast's vod
syfy website won't play for me, so don't know about that

I think Syfy seems to have been locked into deals with cable companies. IMO it has hurt them, as it makes it more difficult for people to watch the show, and they turn to torrenting.

Try The Expanse (it only has the last 5 like most networks) and see if that works for you.

Showcase.ca is good for some of the other shows.

Syfy really needs to do a campaign blitz to let people know that they are back to the business of Sci-Fi. People still look at me like I am crazy for mentioning the channel.

As far as the censorship goes. Who knows why they do it for streaming/VOD...

Yeah, I pay for a number of on demand services and my parents DirecTV and yet this is still easier to just watch on Kodi the night it airs.

Nobody else think the portrayal of Earthers as bums etc for Bobbie was clumsy? I really liked how she found out how wrong the propaganda on Mars was etc.

Dunno . . . the last few episodes have been . . . clumsy. Might be my expectations are too high for this after some of the really good stuff. shrug

I don't think they portrayed them as bums at all. IMO the entire point of that scene was to show that there just wasn't any jobs. That guy she was talking to was waiting for a spot to become a doctor. Just so we don't get into a semantics argument, yes they looked like bums but they aren't there because they are lazy, just no jobs.

I dunno Abe, its a seemingly stark contrast from what i read in the books (if I remember it correctly).

There have been a few things like that in the past 2 episodes. I hope its warranted condensing of the story, and not the typical shit TV and movie writers do and plug in agenda / stupid fuck shit.

The podcast they do clarified that those people weren't on basic, but mostly illegal children (Earth has population/birthing limits). There is a blink and you miss it scene where a drone flying by advertises that signing up for basic is easy.

I haven't read the books so that is a non book readers impression. I do need to read the books though cause I am really interested in this Universe and I know I'm missing a ton of stuff.
