What's that run roughly in dollars? Think you've been asked before, but if your not going crazy in tourist places etc, how horribly expensive would it to be too love near the city or a smaller one that still has mcdonalds and all these nice little beer bar restaurants etc.

It was actually pretty expensive, mostly because of the special drinks jacking up the price. At least expensive for McDonalds.

It's not expensive to live in Japan at all. I only earn about 16k/year because I only work 12 hours a week. Rent is $470/week. Most of the rest of my money goes to food. I live pretty frugally.
If I need extra money I can ask for extra hours and there's pretty much infinite available. I get paid around $22 USD/hour. To put it into perspective, that's about 3.5x minimum wage here.
If the numbers seem low, that's because the conversion between Yen and USD is very, very low right now.
