The difference is the ingredients. If we're talking crust here, I find Pizza Hut to be the least offensive of the chains. Their sauce tastes like shit and their cheese is some weird consistency. My wife used to work there and she refuses to eat anything from there, if that says anything

Pizza Hut has odd tasting pepperoni. Can never put my finger on it, but their pepperoni is just...off, has a weird aftertaste or something

Also, Papa Murphys take&bake pizza > any national delivery chain. Luckily there is one about 1/4 mile from my house, just as easy as ordering delivery, and cheaper and tastes better. Their chicago-style stuffed pizzas are damn good.

Everyone who used to work anywhere refuses to eat anything from there. If you listen to anyone who used to work anywhere you'll never eat anywhere.

Although, I guess that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

If your pizzas look like that from Pizza Hut then you are extremely lucky. I can't remember the last time I had a deep pan pizza from Pizza Hut that wasn't a soggy mess. A golden crust would be glorious, but it is always just dripping with grease and slightly doughy. It isn't like I can't eat it because I can eat pizza from just about anywhere, but there is a noticeable difference between places like Pizza Hut and Dominos compared to my local spots. Also, I can't stand super expensive pizza. I can get large pies for $10-15 here if I want higher quality pizza. Fuck paying $20+ for some bread, sauce, cheese and a few toppings.

I used to work at Steak n Shake and I still love eating there. We had to keep the kitchen spotless though - line sweeps and mops regularly. The chili would also be made fresh everyday. Meat is never frozen. Quality joint.

Maybe you just have awful taste?

I have friends who say the same thing you do - they don't think there is much of a difference in pizza so any time I'm hanging out with them they shoot down every alternative because of price/strange anecdotal story/bias, and insist that we either get Pizza Hut or Papa Johns. Which leaves me to either make a separate trip out (which hurts feelings because I wont eat their pizza LOL) or I have to choke down mediocre pizza. And to me at least Papa Johns is remotely palatable, but even then Pizza Hut usually has some special deal going that my friends want to get so Papa Johns isn't even a real choice half the time.

I've eaten pizza all over the world too and I can't imagine how you can say that they're only "a little better" than chain pizza. Sure, personal taste has a lot to do with it and there are a lot of over-rated pizza places, but there are pizza places out there that when you eat their pizza you honestly wonder how you managed to eat shitty pizza for so long. And no offense but if you've actually tried as many different pizza places as you've hinted at then maybe it isn't the places you've tried and it's just you. Which in a way makes me a little jealous because you probably save money as compared to me since I can't fucking stand Pizza Hut. I don't even think that their crust is any type of dough, it's like the Bisquik of the pizza dough world. And that's an insult to Bisquik.

I've heard that a lot too but I've never been desperate enough to drive out into the boonies to try any. I'm not even sure where some are on the Kansas side...I think Bonner Springs has a few and there are some up by Lansing, but meh.

Pizza in New York is overrated. If you want the best, go to the Bay Area. It's pretty much become the new pizza mecca.

I used to enjoy Pizza Hut until the one I worked at would use improperly proofed dough and everything came out tasting like yeast.

I guess that's one way to put it. I prefer to phrase it as "I have simple tastes." As an example, a while ago I went toCorduroy, a really highly regarded restaurant in downtown Washington, D.C., and the whole time I was eating all I could think about was how I'd rather have a bag of doritos and a Red Robin burger.

I can see how people think NY pizza is overrrated. I personally think the best pizza is in Connecticut. However, anything on the west coast is fucking LOL as far as "best pizza" goes. I get better pizza in FL.

I have gotten a few deep dish pizzas from pizza hut that came out looking like that picture, but that was years ago when people actually gave a shit about their job.

They don't even make the dough at Pizza Hut anymore, they have these premade shells delivered to them. I just can't do Pizza Hut anymore. Maybe I'm a prissy pizza snob, but the local place here is LEGIT better than any chain I've ever been to.

I didn't want to come off like a dick, it's just possible that your taste prefers chain pizza. I have a lot of friends who are that way and it drives be bananas.

To be fair though, Pizza is one of those things where people's tastes are all over the place.

And Doritos and Red Robin...I can't hate on either but I can't eat those all of the time.

The only thing impressive about the place is the speed your sandwich is made but by no means is it better than Subway and I hate Subway. How the fuck do you run a sandwich shop with NO PEPPERCINIS!?

Sure, they can't. Pizza Hut here is gross. Pizza Hut period is gross, but I don't think I ever noticed it until relatively recently. I haven't had Dominoes in like 10 years, and Papa John's is only tolerable at best. I actually eat Papa John's from time to time, I will not eat Pizza Hut and I actually look forward to pizza from the local place here, it is a special treat. They even have a couple of smaller chains here, the dine-in woodfire oven type places, and they are way, way better than the chains. Our local place, my favorite from them is just the plain cheese pizza. They use different cheeses, herbs in the cheese and on the crust, they make the crust from scratch, they make the sauce from scratch, it is just better and it tastes fucking badass. Pizza Hut sauce tastes bland as fuck and comes in giant ass bags. Shit is gross.

Fucking Chucky Cheese is abhorrent. When I was a kid I used to eat all kinds of things. Sometimes I would just ball up bread and eat it. My stepbrothers used to eat peanut butter and syrup, or mustard and crackers. Kids eat gross shit.

I used to eat straight up margarine from the container when I was a kid. I never got fat either. Still amazed.
