While the outfits havent been awful I do like that they made him look like a regular person instead of running around in green but im sure that will eventually happen. Kinda shitty that captain cold/heatwave are supposed to be one of his biggest villains but those 2 have sucked on the show for the most part. I dont know if they are just bad actors or the writing sucks for them

While I understand that tidal wave actually refers to multiple things and tsunami means one thing specifically, in common usage tidal wave is a synonym for tsunami. Your average Flash viewer asked to describe the giant wave in that episode would probably be just as likely to call it either a tidal wave or a tsunami. Maybe slightly more likely to call it a tsunami because of the 2004 and 2011 Tsunamis being reported on so heavily.

And while the wave wasn't caused by any of the events that traditionally cause tsunamis, how else would you describe it to quickly convey the size and danger of the wave?

Pretty sure Tsunami is a relatively recent phrase used and tidal wave as you say was the original term.

Flash doesn't use time travel on a regular basis because it's unethical and dangerous. Most characters in comics that use it are villain's or in Booster Gold's case a douchebag.

Well tidal wave used to mean basically everything to do with big waves, but now we have specific terms for all the things that tidal wave used to mean. The wikipedia page for tidal wave is just a disambiguation page that points you to tidal bores, storm surges, tsunamis/megatsunamis, and the crest of a tide as it moves around the earth which is probably the technical scientific definition of tidal wave nowadays.

Obviously doesn't matter, and as you say, in common useage the terms are interchangeable, but it was just glaring when Tsunami was used just seconds beforehand. I would even say it would have been better if they had switched the order, with Barry using Tidal waves and Caitlin correcting him and using Tsunami.

Again, probably the minorest thing to quibble about in the episode, but just stood out for me.

She's a bio-engineer, not a climatologist, or oceanologist or any other kind of ologist that deals with giant ass waves.

And yes, the wave defies classification, but it seems closer to a tsunami than any other wave event. It isn't a storm surge because Weather Wizard would have to be raising the entire nearby sea level up to the height of that wave, similar to how New York got flooded in Day After Tomorrow. It's not a tidal bore because those have to do with ocean tides hitting rivers flowing into them.

So yeah you call it a tsunami or a tidal wave and anyone will know exactly what it is.

Tsunami is made by shifts in the crust ect where hurricanes come from winds/weather so thats why hurricane would be more accurate imo. I still have no idea why this seemed odd or stood out but at least I learned something.

They are also caused by massive landslides, such as when Krakatoa blew itself apart and a major part slid into the sea. Or Mt St Helens, which actually created a megatsunami which topped out at over 850 feet tall. Or meteor impacts, but that's basically a seismic event unless it hits the ocean. Hurricanes cause storm surges, not tsunamis.

Sort of a moot point, there's a good chance Weather Wizard never gets another chance to create the gigantic wave which isn't tidal but is like a tsunami, but I do love talking about natural disasters.

Really want to watch tonight's episode but I know its just going to be dumb like the other Rogue episodes where they pose no threat to Barry and just shoot around like idiots. The clip I saw of Wells explaining the time traveling looked good

Well that's an interesting development. I like the new take on the Golden Glider, much less silly. Also establishes a sort of detente for the Rogues similar to what it was during the 90s with Wally West.

The actor that plays Captain Cold is such a troll , I love it.

The whole speed force thing is going to get crazy for the writers I fear. I hope to god they have a good continuity person

Yeah Captain Cold is awesome, hes been my favorite bad guy thus far by far.

This episode was a pretty decent let down after last weeks episode. It wasn't bad...just not as good as I was hyping myself for it to be.

Wasnt terrible like I was expecting, very annoying seeing him snatch everyone out of the Casino and then get stuck on captain cold. I also dont like that Cold already knows his identity. Barry and Cysco are great but Wells kills it every scene its ridiculous

I was actually happy with how they worked their way out of the possible trainwreck of time issues.

Nice to see they are writing a Cold smart enough not to just be fodder for Barry. Hope this is the turning point for Cysco towards being Vibe.
