I was thinking the same thing, except for both of the Prison Break guys. It is like the director told them to be as outrageous and over the top and cliche as possible. Don't get me wrong, it sort of fits for comic book villains, but it is definitely distracting like you said.

at first i was a little put off by miller's corny sarcastic voice, but by the end it had me crcking up. definitely a plus for this show. besides when mark hamill appears we wont be as shocked by his ham performance which i fully expect to happen.

Yeah Miller is fucking amazing and I love his delivery. I don't see Eddie becoming Zoom because his name is Thawne, not Zolomon. I think the fact that his name is Thawne (but not Eobard) was just to cast some doubt on who the Reverse Flash was for the first few episodes of the series. I also loved how Cisco and Wells had that talk in the force field room again, with Wells even saying the son thing.
Also, did you notice how Wells took the reporter guys body? That's a perfect example to compare the lazy writing of the previous episode to. He left Cisco's body just lying in the force field room, he left his wheelchair sitting empty for Caitlin to see, the writing was just sloppy because the writers knew the time jump was coming.

I had this exact same thought, Hamill is clearly going to be totally over the top and it might seem out of place with Cold setting the table.
Purcell is indeed awful.
Also, they initially took out the mafia with...punches? That was the big thing??
I think they might be going a little too light hearted with the rogues but it does pretty much follow their comic counterparts. They take Barry on in numbers, always fail and they don't kill, in the current version they even pull a brief face turn.
Hopefully Thawne and Grodd will be dark enough to maintain a good balance. The whole tone of the show at the moment works very well but they really shouldn't go too zany.
I really liked the alternate Cisco/Wells meeting at the end, it counterbalanced last week in a really nice way.
