Shit Dabamf, you asked me a long ass time ago if I I'm still in Korea and I never answered. Yes, I am. This past summer I met a girl (the one pictured) and we had something of a whirlwind relationship. I'll spoiler it for serious livejournalry (seriously, there's a novel under here):
Damn you sound like a needy little wiener.

Actually no, she wasn't the umbrella type, thank god. She was fairly westernized. I don't know exactly how long she was in SF, but I know she went to Penn State for her undergrad, so she wasn't exactly new to the big scary Western world. Conversely, I was the first non-Korean she had been with in any fashion. She had had boyfriends in America but they were all Korean American. She's a weird mix of Western and Eastern.

We never had penis-in-vagina intercourse, but I did melt some pearls on her tummy, in the words of Roger Smith. It was mildly frustrating but since I actually cared for her it wasn't a big deal.

I'll stay here for the foreseeable future. The job I have now is really really good, everything about it is awesome except the caveat with pretty much all teaching jobs here: no upward mobility. It's hard to leave, though. In the past few months I've got a bunch of private lessons, which are just silly. 50 bucks an hour to casually chat with someone either in my home, their home or a coffee shop is hard to scoff at. I even have one where I do the same (free conversation) but for 4 people at a dental clinic and I charge them 100 for the hour lol. I got my drum set here too and I'll start teaching/overcharging for that as well. So yea, it's hard to leave.

And since I'm yapping about myself again, here's more Koreans in various states of undress. The girl on the right in the duo and the girl covering her face in the mirror are the same chick.

Several people that teach at the college here in Oman talk about how when they taught in Korea all they did was fuck Asians in their spare time. You come here and right in the goddamn booklet they give you there's a whole section on why you are strongly advised not to even talk to Omani women outside of classes. I used to visit with my son because the students there loved to meet and play with him between their classes. I was told I wasn't allowed to come back anymore because a few of the Omani teachers felt it was improper for me to be alone with the girls.

Thousands of Filipino whores if that's your thing though. Went to a house warming party a few weeks ago and at least 2 guys had escorts.

The one in the far right pic is a little better, but the girl in the mirror pic and in the duo is fucking weird as shit looking. I don't know what so many geek guys see in these Asians. I get it, its braindead easy to get laid in Korea as an American. Sounds like an exploit to me, I'll level up the old fashioned way....grinding!!!

In that 2nd pic she looks like wax that has begun to melt.

Zehn, what are you doing in Oman?!
Wife got a job teaching ESL. Let's me be a stay at home dad for a year or two while she works which is nice. Only real downside is Oman is 5000 miles from anywhere people want to build shit so I can't really play DOTA2 or anything like that. Plus most of the women out here, even if you get them to uncover themselves, are just plain nasty. A couple hundred generations of inbreeding will do that I suppose.

I don't mind paying 4 dollars for 2 pounds worth of beef tenderloin though.

Seems like a good place to put this. I've been official with a girl for about 4 months now. We're both PhD students in the same field, but she lives on the west coast and, well, you can see where I live. We met over the summer through a mutual friend at work, and things progressed pretty quickly so we made it official after about a month. To keep things going, I've been flying out once every 5-6 weeks for 4-5 days (2 weeks for Christmas) to see her.

Now, I normally would have just let whatever we had die after the summer, because fuck long distance relationships, but I'm defending within the next 2 months and am looking for jobs, so we decided that I would look for jobs exclusively in her area since she still has ~2 years left on her PhD. Luckily, she lives in the biggest tech hub in the U.S. (Bay Area), so I won't exactly be ruining my career to be with her. Still, if it were up to me, I would never live in Silicon Valley because of cost of living and the fact that I dislike the way the state is run. The COL is so out of whack, that even the one offer for $115k I got so far will not allow me to buy even the median house in the South Bay.

My biggest issue is this: I feel like I have a lot more to lose than her, and I feel like there are some milestones that should be met before I move out there. I'm also shouldering most of the financial burden with the plane tickets (she does buy me things and takes care of most of the costs when I'm here, though). Finally, this sounds stupid, but she hasn't told me she loved me. Granted, I haven't said it to her, but I feel like the relationship should be pretty special for me to move to that hellhole. Thoughts?

As someone with a Computer Engineering degree that just got back from a business trip to Palo Alto, I understand not wanting to live up there. So, my advice there would be to rent, not buy. You're not sure about the relationship...you're not sure about living in California, so buying doesn't make sense to me. With that said, based on the girls I went through my ECE program with, you can probably do better. If you REALLY want to be with her, moving to silicon valley isn't the worst thing in the world. But it doesn't sound like you're certain about her and you will always blame her anytime you're sitting in traffic for 2 hours trying to get home, which isn't healthy.

I second this advice. Move out there, rent a place and see what happens. Worst case scenario the relationship fizzles out, but at least you get several months of job experience to put on the resume. Just don't do anything that would tie you to that area longterm until you are sure about the relationship.

You're seriously thinking about packing up your bags and moving clear across the country for a girl you've spent a total of 200 hours with?

Yeah, I will rent for sure. All of my labmates bought houses when they moved for their jobs in Portland, Austin, etc., so I just kind of expected to do the same. Living a nomadic lifestyle for another couple of years will suck when you're paying $2k/month for a studio in Mountain View all the while.

Hah, I know what you mean. Luckily, she grew up in a country that has a lot of social pressure to go into engineering or medicine, but she has also lived here since high school, so she's basically a normal girl unlike the american girls in ECE, who yeah, tend to be trolls. I guess I should note after that statement that her family knows about me, and her siblings all married outside their race. I could state the things I like about her physically and personality-wise, but they would be biased.

And Tenks, I guess that's what it is, but I'm absolutely not risking my future. If she lived in like Chicago, there's no way I would have continued it past the summer. Oh, and we lived in the same place during the summer and dated for about the last month or it. But yeah, obviously if I thought I were 100% doing the right thing, I wouldn't have made this post. We still click really well, and I have no reason to believe that we won't continue getting more serious, but I just wish she had more skin in the game, so to speak.

Well, I was going to suggest that you get her to visit during her spring break, but it sounds like you'll already be moving before then. I live in Austin and love it here, so I can relate to not wanting to move there. I also know how difficult it is to find a smart girl that I'm attracted to...let alone mutually click with. So, I would probably take the chance since, as we've both said, moving there isn't hurting your career any. Have you asked her about where she wants to live/work after she's done? There's definitely a chance this ends badly...so, you really need to be thinking about it mostly from the job angle and use her as a tipping point. Are you turning down a better living environment at a better company? I don't know all the variables, but assuming your offers outside CA are roughly the same as the ones there (accounting for COL, quality of company, your role in the company, etc.), I'd take the chance.

Hope that helps.

Well I have a story for this thread. May not be the best one but since I'm stuck in bed dying from the flu I might as well waste more time.

To start off, my friend and I don't get laid too often which isn't about looks, it's just about work, timing, friends with quiet girlfriends etc.., so when the opportunity strikes, you go for it.

Anyway, fast forward and my roommate/friend meets a very good looking girl off of OKC and to my surprise, bang the first night. I am happy for him and am praying that she may have some slutty friends as well.

Fast forward again...Last weekend. I meet my roommate at a bar for some food and the girl is there who says her sister is in town and has to pick her up later. Asks what were doing later but it was thursday and it was getting late so we say we will hang out Saturday (Yippee).
Well saturday rolls around and we all get drunk and have a grand old time, laughs to be had, flirting to be had and an attractive girl with a gross boston accent to be had. We hit it off right away and by the end of the night she is saying stuff like "I hope your cock is big", "damn I can't wait" and all this stuff where I get even more excited.

We get back to her sisters place where she is sleeping on a huge aero bed and we start going at it immediately. Since I am deprived for a few months and she is in good shape and cute she says she likes when guys go down on her so I'm down there for about 20 minutes and couldn't care less. She said she likes anal so I'm down there lubing it up with my mouth and bam we do anal it's a night to remember boys.

Here is the weird part...
When we are done she asked if I had a condom on to which I said yes (I did). She says "Thank god". I don't make anything of it. She looks around for it and asked again, "Are you sure you had one on?!" "Yes, I did I threw it somewhere". At this point she is furiously looking for it and starts saying promise me you did. Holy fuck yes, why does it even matter? "Because I have something, It's not HIV or anything" I shake my head and fall asleep on her snoring stomach. Jesus.

A girl who likes anal on the first night she meets someone has an STD? You don't say!
