You can update your wardrobe pretty easily by just purchasing some darker jeans and solid color tshirts. Generally graphic tees and bright colors are the things that appear sophomoric in most people's eyes. But like others have said you can be wearing a burlap sack and have a ton of confidence and make it work for you.

Early dates and the job interview process are extremely similar.
Don't know if I agree with that. Unless you are an extremely sought after person with an extremely sought after skillset generally a job interview all the power lies in the company hiring you. Usually during the interview most of the questions are pointed at if you're a good fit for the company and do you have the right attributes for the job. It isn't you trying to disqualify the company from you working there. Dating is very dissimilar from this where it is a back and forth where both parties are trying to judge if this is a good fit. I think people get into trouble when generic brushstrokes are used to paint to very different things.

I think people get into trouble when they take generalizations that are clearly not 100% and try to turn them into an argument.
You're right dating is more two-way. But that just means its two people interviewing each other at the same time.
Even business interviews are a semi two ways at times. Usually the interviewer will ask if you have any questions for them. You should always have 1-2, either to show your values and what you're looking for in the job, and/or to show you've researched the position already and are looking for some more detailed information.
Then the analogy is worthless if only to highlight the importance of confidence when dealing with humans. I feel that is a fairly understood fact. The job interview analogy is suspect because it implies one person holds more power than the other. Something that is often true for un-confident males who constantly try and qualify themselves to females and rarely, if ever, disqualify the female.
Well thats the thing, a confident person is going to go into a date thinking "what can this person bring to the table that i can't on my own", not "what am i bringing to the table that this person wants". It sounds silly to some people, but obviously there are a lot of guys out there that think dating is trying to convince your date to want to be with you. They are already there with you! You need to look at it as an opportunity to see what your date can do for you.
I am sure i described the above horribly, maybe someone else can get my point accross.
