I mean it's a charming movie but while it's bending over backwards to romanticize Samurai culture, it leaves out the fact that the Satsuma Rebellion was largely about maintaining the privilege of the Samurai caste, not 'warring over the soul of Japan'. Also a great many Samurai remained loyal to Emperor Meiji and took no part in the rebellion.
The person that Katsumoto is based off of, while certainly a major figure in restoring the power of the Emperor from the Tokugawa Shogunate, was a massive warmonger and his opposition to the major railway project (that is sort of depicted in the movie) was not because of corruption but because he thought the money should go towards modernizing their military so they could invade Korea.

Cleopetra's lineage was fairly specific and there is an argument that she was lighter-skinned (then 99.999999% of all people she ruled over). But the med wasn't majority white, certainly nobody native to the area around Jerusalem/Bethlehem at the time and probably not even the majority of Roman soldiers occupying the region. Jesus was definitely on the Bin Laden or darker side of things.
Not to mention that the people that today are majority muslim from today's Isreal over the arabic peninsula to where it meets Hinduism were in large parts the Jews of the time. Pre-christ (and thus a few more centuries pre-Muhammed), that was the religion in the region.

Yeah, we know the Israelites and their closest relatives from Lot and Esau were all from Ur in Mesopotamia. So, most likely, many of the locals are related and 'Arabic' in stock. Hell, even the white people back then were pretty dark due to outdoor activities. And we all know gingers aren't real people, so most everyone was of a darker cast than later in history.
This was all early civilization before widespread diet changes increased brain size and lightened skin......

The Great Diaspora was an actual thing. The jews were an arabic tribe of nomads who wandered around the Middle East like all the other nomadic arab tribes back then. As cities and civilizations formed the jews settled down and did jew things that got them exiled from the various countries. Much like the palestinians. The ones that went to Europe and Russia were the majority of the ones that survived, and part of that was by mixing blood with the locals, which resulted in their much lighter skin that is common today. Did you seriously never have any sort of world history class in school?

So I watched a couple of the director's other movies over the weekend, A Ghost Story and The Old Man & The Gun. Very, very different movies but both are excellent. Dude is talented, I'm even more hyped for this one after seeing those. He's got one more that I haven't seen called Ain't Them Bodies Saints, will have to check that out, I know I've heard people say good things.
About 10 minutes into A Ghost Story I was kind of bored, it is slow to start, but the overall story and symbolism is very interesting to pick apart.
