How intense is that feeling when you can just die over and over and just get reset to a save spot 30 seconds in the past?
Yeah man. This video game really fails at replicating the immersion felt during a real zombie apocalypse.

I for one, do not want a sequel featuring Joel and Ellie's story. I feel that there is a small chance that it could be great and really bring a lot more to their story and the universe, but it has a much bigger chance of really screwing it up. Sequels/Trilogies always have such a hard time. Joel's back story may be cool, but like others have said im sure he was a complete asshole. In a world like that, if you want to survive that is just the way it is.
There's a few things that point towards there being a sequel, be it with or without Ellie and Joel. For one, the last of us has been called a "franchise" both in the documentary and the art book, by Troy Baker and Neil Druckmann respectively. As for a sequel about Ellie and Joel, this is what Druckmann said about it:

"But as far as whether we come back to Joel and Ellie or not, or whether we come back to the world or not, that's all up in the air. I can tell you there are people in the studio that would love to come back to these characters, but the only way we would do it would be if we had something new, something meaningful to say. Because the last thing we would want to do is repeat ourselves."

So, it's still very much possible, and as I've said multiple times before, I really hope they bring back both characters as the main characters of the sequel. I think the people who don't think there should be a sequel about Ellie and Joel are a bit short sighted. This is Naughty Dog we're talking about. They make REALLY GOOD sequels. Not only that, imagine having the possibility of a repeat of the gripping experience of the last of us, but while already having this established background and attachment to the main characters. It has the potential to surpass the story they told now.

Except he kept his brother alive until his brother got tired of doing whatever it is Joel was doing. They just barely touch on that, but they do.
They don't need to touch on it more. Half of a good story is the stuff that isn't explained to death because it leaves room for thought.

Joel specifically doesn't need any more story. I suppose I wouldn't mind an older Ellie being the or a main character in a future Last of Us game but even that isn't needed.

Sometimes a character and a story are related perfectly and this is one of those times for Joel. He starts off as an embittered loner who doesn't want to let anyone but Tess in, and progresses to the point where he can accept his past but the great thing about his whole dynamic arc is that just because he lets Ellie occupy the spot his daughter once did he doesn't become some totally healed and born again type person. He is still a selfish survival first asshole and that is never going to change. Nor should it, aside from some obvious video game stupidity he is one of the most honest and realistic characters I have seen in a game. Another story with heavy involvement from him would really have a high chance of ruining the perfection they already built in regards to Joel and his journey.

Exactly!!! There is potential for many many great stories out of this world.

I took that as being year 1-2 type stuff though - when his brother was trying to be the good guy and he was "fuck it, I'm surviving over all else" - Y1-2 post characterization stuff not Y3-19ish where he was a complete dick, clearly.

I would be really disappointed if they did another Joel/Ellie game. Their story is done. The world is great though. Plenty of opportunities for sequels there.

The only way I could see any story involving the original characters is if they did a ten years later thing with Ellie as the protagonist, or something similar. Maybe the survivors of the Fireflies find out where she is and want to come get the cure or whats left of the government starts trying to reclaim all the little settlements and she needs to hide the fact that she is immune or something. Those sorts of stories have a lot of possibilities. I think Joel's story is basically over, especially considering he is at the end of this game a late 40s dude who has been impaled on a spike and getting the shit knocked out of him for the last two decades, with limited standard of living. At best, a scene where Ellie confronts an old Joel about him lying to her is all the involvement he should have in the next game.

The other thing that I see as being a major obstacle to story telling is that in this story the infected are more or less secondary to the plot and not the driving force behind it. The world has fungus zombies in it and they are a day to day threat to people, but the real story is about humans being assholes to each other in the interest of survival. The fact that the people seemed to be able to avoid or contain most of the remaining infected tells me that the real question is not if mankind survives the zombie apocalypse, but rather if civilized society does in any form. That's more or less what I saw the dam community addressing. Either way, it is an amazing story and game. I have not been so roped in by a game since Fallout 3.

Sonunva - started playing it for a second plat on my PS+ profile rather than my personal one and the damn game is freaking out now half my saves freeze at a random percentage on loading and when I can get it to load one (or restarting the game entirely) I'm getting animation and sound glitches quite frequently - not fun. Hopefully my reinstall (CD-based version - it's a small file) last night fixed it, was really a frustrating late night yesterday. (MP still working fine though)

i`m not finished the game yet so i haven't read a single part of this thread yet but i am absolutely loving the multiplayer especially the survivors mode. i`m really not a fan of console multiplayer in general but the slow methodical play of this mode is great.

running stealth load out until i unlock more perks cause invis to listening mode while crouching is pretty slick.

Yea multiplayer is dope. Anyone know how to get a high clan member size? I've been doing good to mediocre and have trouble getting passed 80 population. The challenges are stupid easy though with heal ally option.

Just finished this game last night, and without doubt it's one of my favourite games of all time. The only thing that I disliked were the arbitrary ammo caps, but I understand why they were there.

I loved the ending too. Unlike virtually all games, I felt emotionally involved. For instance, I popped the two male doctors around Ellie's surgery table in quick succession, but as the female one recoiled to the wall in fear and started sobbing I hesitated, and decided to let her go. Then picked Ellie up, and left.

I didn't realize that was even a choice rofl.

Technically there's only a little bit of flexibility in the "options" there.

On MP - getting to the full 120 just requires really tight MP play consistently - and you really need to do it before Week 6 or so when you start getting the steep penalty "quests" since they eventually start coming so quickly even with perfect play you'll mostly be making up for the loss each time. [Even tightening up my play I don't think I'm on track this time to get the 120 - guessing I'm gonna peak at 110 at the most...]

Tips if you're not too good at shooters normally - is to go with the shotgun and/or shorty - since both can takedown someone with two shots - additionally NEVER run outside of the first couple seconds of a match/round. (Scavenge Mode/Survivors)

just finished it.

easily the best moment of the game was when joel got impaled on the spike and you finally get a sense that these two are very vulnerable characters and not action movie super heroes that they turn out to me. like ellie riding away on horseback from a dozen shooters and falling off her horse without any consequence? give me a fucking break.

joel turns out to just be a mad dog killer for me at the end blinded by his past. my investment in his character was gone after i had to shoot the doctor and the female doctor calling joel "a fucking animal" pretty much sums up my thoughts about him. it was already waning when you realize joel will do absolutely anything for ellie.

i would have been completely satisfied if joel got shot just before reaching the elevator with ellie in his arms (which it does if you fail the sequence and i was pretty disappointed to restart a second after.) fade to black. credits. shakesperian tragedy right there.

i think there should have been a choice right there over whether to cure humanity (die before the elevator) or save ellie (get to the elevator.)

overall a good game and i`m excited about what they will do in the sequel.
