I may be mis-remembering but Suikoden was great despite having 108 characters and while you couldn't give a shit about some of them it felt like they all had some story.

In the abstract sense, yes. The story, in principle, could be good - if it was written and delivered differently.

But it is not. It's a hack job. It's tone deaf at best for a major part of it, and the "moral lesson" that the writer insisted was as its core is completely inverted from what you assume it is. The end take is that revenge is cathartic and you get to rebuild your life after it, while not taking it leaves you empty and a loser. Deprived of the ability of even evoking the good memories.

Which, I am going to assume, is not what Neil Fuckmann wanted to say when he spoke about the theme of the cycle of revenge and stuff.

And having that potential is not what warrants anything bigger than a maybe 3 out of 10. For the potential, that is. And a 0.5/10 for the execution of the concept.

Which is an appropriate word for what happened with the game, now that I think of it.

See - while taking a dump I thought, “what if Joel was bitten, and turns out he was also immune?” He would be on his way to redeem himself by sacrificing his life for a cure.... when in a wild twist they realize that his sacrifice could also help them realize the cure for gender dysphoria, but they would only be able to choose one cure. For the good of humanity they choose to live with the clickers and end the tranny infestation.

Damn Neil, see how easy that was?

You can already tell what they have planned for TLOU3 if it gets made

1) Ellie bites Abby at one point in TLOU2
2) Abby will be revealed to have been infected with the same fungus strain Ellie has (it’s only transmitted through bites and spores after all)
3) Abby makes the hero sacrifice and dies to save the world by allowing for a cure, allowing Ellie to live
4) Neil is confused as to why players hate this also, not realizing it further undermined their shit “message” in the 2nd game

It was delayed because they couldn't get physical copies made and shipped during peak China virus time. Leaks first started happening about the same time it was delayed, nothing was rewritten.
