This show is bad. And I don't mean bad for HBO, I mean it's just bad. Like even in ABC this would be considered bad for ABC. Horrible.

No GR's at all (well, 3 seconds of a person yelling at them). Focused solely on Nora Durst and her visit to a conference about the Departed.

It's a real shame they're wasting such production value and what I generally think is a really good cast on this boring material. I think the concept could even be really great, the execution is just awful though.

I don't get it. I must be the only person on these boards who is actually enjoying the show. I know nothing of the books or what the show will progress in to, but I find the different story lines intriguing so far. Skepticism given the show's creators aside, I look forward to seeing how it all plays out. The show is a slow burn and I have no problem with that.

Your mistake is in thinking that it actually plays out.

I like it for what it is. If you keep in mind that they've said they wanted to build the show around characters more than narrative (which was ultimately what they finally said about Lost, too) then it's a little more enjoyable. As character vignettes, it's a good study. There's a bare string of serial narrative, but it's better to pretend it's not even there.

It seems the show is good when the white gowns / mutes have no air time.

I can't help but feel the bagel is going to be a metaphor for the entire show. 'Look! A supernatural mystery ! Or is it? Haha only kidding... or are we ? Yep, we are'

If they are writing this show to see how characters react to stress-induced environments and how they interact with each other and the fact a few million people just disappeared one day really doesn't come in to play, then the show will be shit.

There's a status update from one of my friends on Facebook about how he likes this show and like 20 people commenting about how it's great. My only exposure to this show has been this thread. I don't know what to believe now.

Let me start this out by saying that I hated how lost ended and it made me angry how they explained all of the islands mysteries. I didn't even want to watch this show.

Having said that, my wife and I like it. The acting is good and the characters are interesting. I am not looking for them to solve the mystery of why the GR was created, what Wayne actually is, or what happened to the missing people. Instead, I watch it as a show about people who had something horrible happen to them and how they deal with it. I think in that context it has been good enough to keep watching.

My friend on Facebook also hated Lost's ending, which is why him praising this show even garnered my attention. I might marathon it once it's over, but I haven't watched a single episode yet.

Unless they dramatically change it from the book, those wanting answers to the mysteries are going to get fucked. The book is a straight up character study.

It's fascinating to watch Damon pull it off completely in one episode then write utter shit the next. He should focus on the character driven story lines and kill off the entire white mute lesbian cult

I don't even give a shit about them explaining the rapture. But there are only so many magical hugs and prophetic pigeons I can take before I give up. With a book I know there is a definite end, a TV show can be drawn out until 'mysterious' turns into 'annoying.'

Does the book even have a satisfying ending for the characters?

I like it. The production is great, the acting is much better than I expected, the music is great, its edited well and I am interested every episode. Its bit "heavy" and can be grief porn but this week really ended on a up swing.

The fact that this thread cant go more than 5 posts without someone mentioning Lost should tell you all you need to know about how people here receive the show. I keep saying it, the Lost Nerd Rage is blinding people from a good show.

I would bet a million dollars that if the same show, same episodes, same everything aired and it was "written by Joss Whedon" and promoted as such the same people who hate it would like it.

People hated it before it started because of Lindelof and never gave it a shot. They decided before it started it was shit and then every episode they looked for things to shit on. I guess I can understand hating alot of his work, but I never really let the makers influence this. Just started watching.

I wouldnt say its must watch, but I think its a good summer show to watch. The story and characters are all progressing, yet people complain about it being stretched.

I dont expect big mysteries to be solved because the show isnt relaly focusing on that. Its focusing on the character arcs since they changed. I do think we will get some more insight into the motivations of the GR but dont really need it. They are there trying to force people to remember and accept that God is all powerful and they all are next. Wayne is a madman that is victimizing people so damaged they will believe anything to feel better.

Show is about grief and how people move on. Or cant to be more precise.

I'm glad you like it, but the show is legitimately boring to a lot of people. I agree the production is pretty good, the soundtrack is good, and some of the acting is good, but none of that is enough to account for how boring the show is. If we're going to pretend that "grief porn" is actually a real genre, I think we can at least agree that it's not a genre that's going to garner much excitement. If you decide to watch this show just be aware that a decent chunk of your time will be spent watching people who never talk and people doing mundane tasks like buying groceries.
