Is it a better game than Skyward Sword? Yes
Do I enjoy it more? Eh, I don't think so

Shrines are fine. Divine beasts are fine. But it really needs some dungeons.

Also tired of the repeating Ganon story. At this point I'm kinda rooting for the dude. At least he's persistent.

Music is hit and miss. Zora town is nice, as well as a few others. But it's lacking an iconic track, or something to unify the game such as

or

To all that give 0 shits about my first world zelda problems of my quest finding spring of power lol - I found it, yeah not anywhere near the dragon - or near the memories before or after it - thought to my self, where is a place that I did not really explore during my initial crawl (my first self objective was getting all the towers... so in the harder areas I did little exploring...shame on me) - then I thought okay, now where would be POWER! Nintendo / asians tend to make areas have some sort of unwritten connection - so places of great power would naturally develop around the spring over time - silly yeah right? so off to one of the most fun but hard towers - look around on the map, FFS there it is, 99% thats it right there, fucken a... port to the stable LIKE RIGHT NEXT TO IT - OH FUCK ME LOOK THE PAINTER, sure lets humor myself and talk to him - yup he is like "Its like...umm right over there, you cant miss it - shit for brains"

As for BOTW vs Zeldas - I already stated the music - and I agree - that video a page or so back reviews it well - everything is there its just VERY subtle and VERY background.

As for dungeons... mm yeah the divine beasts where "small" - and hyrule castle is "smallish" - but only compaired to like MMOs or modern games...or Zelda 2 ;-) Zelda 2 has some of the best- don't know why you ranked it so low - other than its much like botw were your tools are mostly for overworld exploration / advancement and the palaces were mostly maze (that is a puzzle....) and fighting.

Re: Ganon aint hard complaint - Just finished OOT on 3ds with my wife - gannon was lulz there also - either arrow 2 the face or DEKU NUTZ IN YO FACE - he was form 1 and 2 way easier than BOTW ganon and the fire dragon in OOT, and some other OOT bosses. Shit, SkywardShitstain the final battle was holding your damn sword in the air for a bit then wintown.

Heck aside from cheesing (many zelda games have a way to cheese out bosses/ganon) the hardest final boss is fucking shadow link in zelda 2 (I could still contend that Zelda 2 is bigger than BOTW)

Nintendo can print money with 2 xpacs DLC for BOTW -

1: the prelude story of 100 years ago - Zeldas journey and the fight vs gannon would be awesome - by the flashbacks etc. I think they have much of the world already made pre-destruction.

2: the one thats obviously coming via the "good" ending.. duh

Re ganon return etc

Finally finishing Zelda states "oh this is his true form, giving up on his cycle of resurrection!" how does she know this? also - if true why are they prepping afterwards? also my theory is that it is the end of CALAMITY Ganon, not Ganon in general - same as Gannondorf was a specific vessel of Ganon just like Calamity ganon is- I think the only way that it can stop is to resurrect Malice or whatever his name was from skywardpoop and really kill him- but he will always exist in some form (ganon) as long as hylia exists in some form (zelda and link) so..well..yeah more games ;-)

Do not dicount portables - apparently oracle of seasons are good, I didnt play them myself...and minishcap is eh from what I have seen with my wife playing... however...

Links Awaking is awesome and Link Between World is very awesome - link between worlds is essentially LTTP followup, so I wouldn't avoid it just because its on a portable.

Just beat my last divine beast this afternoon. I wanted to hold out on my opinion until I played the game some. Since the next main step is to go to the castle and finish the game, I figure now is a good time. I like the game for what it is, but for a Zelda game, I find it lacking. I would rank it as my least favorite Zelda game outside the portables. Not really a fan of Spirit Tracks. Only Zelda game I never bothered finishing. And prior to this, Skyward Sword was my least favorite, but that was mainly due to the dungeons.

I'm a huge Zelda fan. Grew up on it, but I don't know.... there's parts of this game that I think are truly great, but if I were to go home and beat it right now, it would be fairly forgettable. I wouldn't be thinking of it a week from now.

For me, it's missing something intangible that was present in the rest.

My ranking:

A Link to the Past
Majora's Mask
Legend of Zelda
Ocarina of Time
Twilight Princess
Windwaker
Adventure of Link
Skyward Sword
Breath of the Wild

Completely agree, though I to this day had more fun with LOZ than any of them.

Yeah, i don't think it's much of a spoiler to state that Gannon will never really die forever. Beyond even just practical commerce concerns, the lore in the game talks at length, while simultaneously saying almost nothing definitive, about the triforce and how Gannon is the embodiment of pure power/lust for power. He has to exist.

Being further down the list doesn't mean I didn't like it. I think everything on that list falls somewhere in the spectrum of 9/10, just to various degrees.

And to this day, I'm still tempted to put LoZ at number 1. I've probably replayed that more than any of them. Nostalgia hits hard with that and A Link to the Past.

I will say that BotW came the closest in a LONG time to recapturing that open world feel that existed in the original.

Hehe Zelda 2 is my most replayed - I just love it.

I was thinking about replay and BOTW... I do not know if I want to replay it aside from trying to to X or Y in the best/fastest way... I do not know if I want to go through the entire game again...

Not because I did not like it- but I think it is because it will NOT BE THE SAME as my first and strongest memories of the game... I know that sounds stupid - I should WANT to replay it and do it differently.

The next playthough that I was pondering was to do it "by the book" or direly as possible in a linear plot progression - I am sure there is some (or most likely 600) fan write ups and suggestions on how to do that - thinking of it on my own I have many things that are missing in terms of in-game info that would lead you from X to Y. But a lot of that is because I didn't like talking to people because I didn't want 100 random side quests- however I do like that they split your quest menu into sections, that helps a lot in my issue with quest bloat from "go find me a radish" quest next to "KILL THE GODSLAYER!"

Speaking of Zelda 2... On my 2nd or 3rd play through circe 1989, I had this weird glitch happen where next to my attack level, the number was replaced with some weird graphic. It essentially let me one shot any thing in the game. Not sure how it happened. I treasured that save file. Then one day I came home and found out my 3 year old brother deleted my game. I'm still bitter about that.

Have you tried either the lttp randomizer or the loz randomizer? So much fun and opens the game up to lots of interesting paths etc.

Having fun with botw but as others have said, game loses some big marks from me for:

Lack of classic zelda music (needs to be used way more than just Hyrule Castle)

No real dungeons (huge letdown)

The durability system (its fine for random crap you use as weapons but having the Hylian Shield, divine beast weapons, and even the drops from hyrule castle all break sucks. Same with the master sword. The top weapons should have been permanent or worst case had cool downs like the master sword. not break forever or need a bunch of mats to 'repair'.)

Speaking of Zelda 2 I loved that game on the nes. Id always head to the cave or whatever and get the hammer super early. So hard to survive the room but if I made it out alive I was so pumped. the hammer opened up so much stuff early on.

Yes, he is.

The patch seems nice. Very noticeable improvements on the Switch, though it's still not entirely without frame drops. It sounds like the Wii U version got some similar love, too.

Got ALL memories , I ended up seeing where the forest one was by looking up the painter locs - I swear I was at that stable and didn't see him lol.

not really spoiler but - re memories
okay, I was CONVINCED by myself that the last (2nd to last) forest memory was in the forests by the shrine of resurrection - it had the right trees and the apple trees etc... but no, random forest in the center east near the castle... I was like, that would be such a cool memory of Zelda dragging Link to the resurrection shrine bla bla - nope... then the last memory, I suppose its all right, kinda shitty link didn't go down fighting ganon like the link said but just from fighting the continuous onslaught that ganon brought via taking over the machines.. and wtf Zelda so anime of you to finally just HAVE the powers - and does she have ALL three triforces? Also Link was not as strong as he should have been because Zelda didnt let him do the shrines - she knew he could open them with the slate but never gave it to him... this really all was Zelda's fuckup

It is mostly all subtle OOT and some TP/WindWaker music rehashed very-VERY subtlety in the background of the towns and areas etc. The vid a page or so ago goes over it nicely- ride your horse for 3-5 min and you get the main music FINALLY and it is very nice, if you tone out the odd piano dillydalling going on.

Yeah the hammer in Zelda II is harsh, death mountain is DEATH MOUNTAIN - but you can get through it once you get the candle and the first 3 towns magic on the way - its slightly more doable if you get the hidden heart by the first temple and the magic bottle by the start of the game also. It is such a fun game and it always gets roasted like Castlevania II - but both were before their time :)

I am having an issue in death mountain in BOTW:

What is the best way to escort this guy to the dungeon area? They have these flying things I have to stealth past, I also keep climbing in varying areas to get around them to get to the dungeon, but I keep getting set on fire. I am assuming I need to be on a very strict set path to get to it?

Sometimes you're supposed to stealth past them, sometimes you're supposed to take them out. When you come to some that you can't easily stealth past, look around for something metal you can whip at them with Magensis.

This card gets pulled a lot. Why do this? Why do you choose to be an asshole. Because I enjoyed something you didn't, you somehow feel entitled to treat people less than? What is going so wrong in your life that you have to belittle people that have differing opinions from yourself?

And this isn't just you, but everyone who has ever pulled the "oh you enjoyed X? Well I didn't, so you're wrong" shit. Get over self important, small minded views.

I just want an MMO with aspects of Breath of the Wild. Climbing anything, braving the elements with different gear for various climates, chemistry engine (like lightning having a greater chance of striking someone wearing metal armor). This game has so much that MMOs could benefit from that i'm honestly a bit startled that this shit hasn't happened in this genre before. Maybe it's due to technology limitations?

It could be the breath of the fresh air that genre needs so badly.

Just wrapped it up. Fantastic game. Only main complaint would be weather effecting my ability to climb. Other than that, I still had one map area I still needed to do. I probably missed a ton of stuff and side quests. But I sill did about 20 or so.

I got all the memories so I got the good ending although it was still too short. Only nailed about 50 of the 120 or so shrines. Never did get ancient armor either.

Definitely a 9/10.

I'm honestly kind of surprised the climbing gear doesn't let you climb better in the rain. Seems like something it would do.
