No I don't think that but if support for a program is nebulous then You can't blame the public, it was the rulers that made the decision, they could have gone any way they wanted based on opinion at that time, that's what they chose to do.

bush/cheney got it signed into law and as cheney pointed out that although obama campaigned to dismantle the apparatus itself(the patriot act among it) however
+ temptation of the program would prevent obama from dismantling it and thus justify it's existence.

also what was the reaction to the total information awareness program, that is the predecessor to prism, that program was met with such public outrage they buried it, pretended to defund it and and built it secretly, that is not "public support"

"the rulers" didn't decide anything, bro. WE LET THEM DO IT. Whether you were for, against, or indifferent, you allowed it to happen. We all did, collectively.

Boston. I'll aslo add that if it takes a police state to stop terrorism then the terrorist have won.

Also looks like Snowden has gone retarded and is going to Venezuela/Cuba via Russia instead of Iceland.

None of this shit can really stop attacks before they happen. We had all the surveillance in the world on the older Tsarnaev brother for years, didn't turn up shit. All this PRISM system allows is the ability to rewind the clock after the fact and find out who the perpetrators were talking to. I'm not sure that ability justifies a massive surveillance state, all the money we're spending on it, and the ever expanding use of government contracting companies to spy on our own citizens.

That's the part that really gets me, that NSA is not so much a military intelligence outfit anymore as it is a coordinator and blank-check signer of a bunch of independent for-hire spying companies.

Then start telling your friends and people you know that the only way to stop them is to fucking rip their throats. God, I just want to cut off their fucking heads.

I do not think it's as big of a deal as half of you people are making it out to be.
You're absolutely right. The NSA has been bugging all our phones since 2007, has been keeping all the info in storage indefinitely since 2012 (if not before) what's a little more info and emails from Facebook, Google, MS and Apple?

My mistake -_-

Unless you've been a government contractor, you have no clue, man.
I think this is the biggest bullshit argumen out there being used by the US to defend the programs 'you don't know, so you have to trust the government.' The government has done nothing to earn our trust, and everything to make us distrust them.

Which reminds me that the most effective use of PRISM, IIRC, was ousting Preteus over his affair (via PRISM aquired emails) which was politically motivated because he wasn't coming on board with the WH nothing-to-see-in-Benghazi meme.

None of us are saying to trust the government. We are merely saying that people like fanaskin don't have the slightest clue what they are even talking about.

People like you that thing all our phone conversations are recorded ...

Because the NSA nees a confirmed 5 Zettabytes of data storage for porn? amirite?

Edit: I say confirmed because of the cite above, other sources suggest several Yottabytes of storage.

Everything you linked says they can listen. Not that they are already automatically listening to every single phone call and saving them which is what you were saying.

That shit isn't happening.

They can read emails also. They aren't reading every single email and automatically backing them up.

That shit isn't happening.

You can't find proof of it because it isn't going on. It's within the realm of near reality.

If you really care and the rest of the US really cared we would be voting out the incumbments.

Yes, this shit is happening and has been going on full blast since 2007. Metadata for every single phone call in the US, copies of everyone's email. There might have been some storage limitations back in 2011 so maybe you're metadata from 2007 is lost, but not anymore as the UDC is up and running.

Anyway, I've linked a bunch of articles supporting my position, you've linked nothing. Onus is on you, Tuco and the rest who are defending this shit.

Basically, yeah. I mean, I thought it was a big deal 10 years ago when I was raising hell about the Patriot Act and later about the FISA shit. Now? This shit has been a part of our government for years and years, and it is so quaint to see the same motherfuckers who supported the Patriot Act get all upset at its application years later.
So you were against it but now that those who were for it before are against it, you are fine with it? I really don't get that attitude. Were the reasons you were against it in the first place no longer valid?

At the time, the people for the Patriot Act said that it was needed to solve crime. Yet we have seen that it has done little in that regard. The people against the Patriot Act were for the most part worried about how the intrusion to liberty could continue to grow. All these concerns have proven to be true. So I would definitely expect many that were for the patriot act to be against it now.

Your support of all this stuff seems to just be schadenfreude at the old supporters.

Also a_skeleton_03, you really need to look up the term 'datamining' - the NSA can't datamine the data if it isn't stored. The whole point of these operations isn't to listen to the data as it is being recorded, it's to datamine the pile of data after its been stored.

I know I may only be in First Year Spy Operations, but even I get that.

You're confusing support with just not caring anymore.
