Brutul i typed the exact question like 2 pages back, general consenus by the in the knows with military clearance is:
He just doing it to see the world, be popstar famous and live his life on internet supporters big money.
I don't think I saw anyone say that. Personally I have no idea why he did it, or why he chose to overlook his (apparently) hardcore principles for years and years while he took the money. You think this is the worst thing our government is doing? Come on. They're killing babies and shit to get at high value targets. But this is his line in the sand, I guess, and after years supporting it he has now had enough because (He thought Obama would change it.) Whatever.

When Max Kelly, the chief security officer for Facebook, left the social media company in 2010, he did not go to Google, Twitter or a similar Silicon Valley concern. Instead the man who was responsible for protecting the personal information of Facebook's more than one billion users from outside attacks went to work for another giant institution that manages and analyzes large pools of data: the National Security Agency.

This week the House Intelligence Committee circulated nine talking points to its members explaining why the dragnet collection of innocent Americans' call records is both legal and effective at stopping terrorism. After reviewing the document, the ACLU has gone point-by-point, making notes that either refute or raise serious doubts about almost every assertion in the one-pager

a_skeleton_03 suggested that may be his intentions, but really noone knows at this point enough to be 100% sure. We just dont know what hes done all this years, to get a clue on his job and moral skills and what made him come forward in the end, basically anything after he left school is a black spot, waiting desperatly for some light.

Don't worry the NSA only spies on "terrorists." In related news, activists now reclassified as terrorists

http://truth-out.org/opinion/item/17068-you-terrorist
Yeah, the increasing number of "domestic terrorists" is about to jump in the next 10 years I'd imagine. Shit, Obama himself mentions one of the reasons for winding everything down in the middle east was to bring people home to focus on the rising domestic terrorism in his recent national security speech. Disagree with the establishment? Fucking terrorist. I for one have come to the point of just abandoning ship fully. This nation is garbage and will continue to be so for a long time.

Great great link Fana. Any of the people in this thread that seem to think all this is above-board and fully within the law should check that out.

I'm not typically a huge fan of the ACLU given how many spurious lawsuits they drop to make a spectacle of local/regional non-issues to push them to the national stage, but I'm glad they are actually litigating against the Patriot Act again given the new evidence of its misuse. Not that they haven't tried in the past, but this will certainly make getting to SCOTUS easier. Difficult to get a writ of Cert when you have to prove a vague statue provides injury in fact when all applications of it are completely secret.

It's pointless to vote people out if the next guy is just going to do the same thing. Republican vs. Democrat is a fake option, and they make the rules so they can ensure no third party can get traction. On top of that, you can't really blame the voters for this when every aspect of it is classified. Even members of congress who are not on the intelligence committee are not allowed to know about this stuff, so you guys talking about your security clearance are quite a joke.
That is your problem. I am not talking Republican vs Democrat. I am speaking purely on if they vote for things you don't like they get voted out. It's that simple. Right now if you are in congress you don't ever get voted out until you retire.

And if these guys care so much about freedom and government oppression, why in the world would they ever go to Ecuador or Russia or fucking Cuba? I don't fault them for being scared of jail, but holy shit talk about cognitive dissonance. "The US is oppressive and seeking to silence my opposition. So I'm seeking asylum in South America!"

It's not my problem, I never vote for either a Republican or a Democrat, but when the deck is stacked so one or the other is going to win, and they both agree on the issues I care about then what good does it do me? Now if they got the corporate money out of politics then maybe how they voted might have more to do with whether or not they got elected vs. how much advertising money they could collect, but since the R's and D's are the beneficiaries of the current system, good luck changing it without first getting rid of the R's and D's.

Cuba is a rathole but if you want to go off the grid Venezuela and Ecuador aren't bad choices - you just have to get out of the big cities (Caracas highest murder rate in the world these days, IIRC, and Guayaquil is also very, very dangerous) and head to the Andean regions. Lots of places w/o cellphone reception, limited electricity, beautiful scenery and lovely women. I've only been to Venezuela myself but I've got good friends in Ecuador. Probably helps to know Spanish...

So find the good people, support them and help them get elected. Don't just throw you hands in the air and QQ. or you can do what fanaskin has done and just go full Lumie on us.
