I never argued it was effective. I was merely underlining why the drones have drawn as much ire as they have from enemy and friend alike. It will obviously not break the enemy, because drones are not capable of occupation any more than the traditional army. But not being able to retaliate against an assailant is a pretty embittering thing, which is why the drones have drawn so much hatred on all fronts.

Lavabit, an email service that boasted of its security features and claimed 350,000 customers, is no more, apparently after rejecting a court order for cooperation with the US government to participate in surveillance on its customers. It is the first such company known to have shuttered rather than comply with government surveillance.

"I feel you deserve to know what's going on - the first amendment is supposed to guarantee me the freedom to speak out in situations like this," Levison wrote. "Unfortunately, Congress has passed laws that say otherwise. As things currently stand, I cannot share my experiences over the last six weeks, even though I have twice made the appropriate requests."

Well, hopefully lavabit now has the proper standing to take this to court and get some judicial review.

So, not only were they not allowed to say "no surveillance", they're not allowed to eventell their story? What's that all about?
The administration doesn't give a fuck about the first amendment and the courts are upholding this bullshit. And people wonder why a bunch of us think we're in a police state.

Christ, I actually used a lavabit account to register at tracker sites with.

America is a police state.

Options available as solutions:
1) Revolution
2) Coup d'etat

choose wisely.

Let's stop pretending that drones strikes are any different from just lobbing tomahawk missiles at every sand dune we don't like the looks of.
Well it is a little bit different isn't it?

The missile you fire and then you get to stand back and go "AWESOME" when shit blows up. The drone you have to actually pilot and you get to either stare into the eyes of a man who doesn't know he's dead yet or do your old starcraft "click and drag" to select your "all the American Inventors in this area must die" box.

It seems like drone strikes are actually cooler and would be much more emotionally satisfying.

Droning Taliban gets you Murican points. NSA? Not so much. Freedom points, I guess?
It's fucking ridiculous and only getting worse and Congress (R and D) are as complicit as Bush & Obama.

I just need to buy a farm in Nebraska and raise wheat and forget about all this shit.
