It was surprising to see how many they got right or mostly right. Mike's memory for schlock still seems to hold up.

The trivia contest episodes don't usually do it for me but I thought this one was damned funny.

I normally find them to be pretty fun. Especially when they do the Star Trek stuff. You can tell they're just sitting there and having fun, milking those YouTube clicks.

My rule of thumb with any YouTube content creators is at least trying their best to put on a sense of legitimacy and originality. So much of the stuff now is run by these media corporations that latch on person that they groom and I guess they're basically their agent, and farm them out to companies that want to advertise.

They at least still seem to be quite genuine in their love of film, and they not ever sold out, I'm like so many others.

I think these types of episodes are more of a screw the rest of you trying to do the same bit, we'll beat you in spades, and have fun doing it.

I was thinking about it today, it was also a good idea in that it'll help get viewers to go back and watch their older stuff.

As they said they've been doing this for over 10 years. So there would many a new fan of theirs that hasn't seen the earlier stuff.

No it's screwed up is if I'm tying flies, if I don't have a fly time pattern video on, I'll spin up some best of the worst or review episodes, and I can just listen to it in the background. I guess I do that with documentaries in history stuff as well, but when I just want to shut my brain off and focus on making streamer, the red letter Media stuff is just nice to watch.

I suppose this is the closest thing we have to a Star Trek thread. This short just came out and I suspect RLM will be covering it soon. It's a look at what might have happened to Kirk after his (unsatisfying) end in Star Trek:Generations. It's a mixture of practical and AI special effects to present a de-aged version of Kirk, Spock and others. The face AI is just incredible, basically impossible to tell.

It's not a fan project, Paramount as well as Shatner and Robin Curtis (Saavik from the third TOS movie) are actively involved.

It's currently still unlisted on youtube but with the link below you can already see it. Runs about 10 minutes.

Not spoilering

The theories are- the two god-like characters - the dude in the classic trek outfit and the start, the guy left in the pilot episode as he turned into some god like being - and the grey odd dude that gives Kirk his badge is a time / dimension hopper something from discovery.

They take Kirks essence from the ribbon and bring him to Spock’s final moment on my-Vulcan in the by-trek timeline. Savvack is there with her and Spock’s son- this is from a cut line in ST4 and an expanded universe book. She was with Spock in ST3 as he regrew quickly on genesis and had pon far to the max so she did the deed- they later married.

That’s about the “lore” there are tons of Easter eggs and the cgi is insane.

Only part i felt was off was the far shots of Kirk walking, the arms…

Watching through it, its weird how cyclical media can be - at the time, many people thought Galaxy Quest was doing Star Trek better than Star Trek itself at the time, and now many people (myself included!) prefer Lower Decks over Picard or Discovery.

I remember visiting my parents one weekend when in college, and we went ate some tex mex and saw Galaxy Quest that evening. It's such a great movie. Probably watch it once a year, and it's still just as entertaining as the first time I saw it. Probably watch it this evening and enjoy some bourbon.

Never give up, never surrender!

I like Star Trek 2009 a whole lot and I'm certain the reason for that is how much I hate Star Trek Nemesis. After that grimderp edgelord piece of mean-spirited trash I was ready for something bright and fun (and more than a little stupid). People preferring Lower Decks surprises me not at all.

What shocked me the most about Galaxy Quest was discovering Sigourney Weaver could actually be hot. I always considered here a rather homely female.

I was like she was a good looking lady, but that's definitely the first movie that she ever looked hot.
