I bought a couple of those dirt cheap head massager things because people said they were awesome and it was like $1.80 for a pair from china on Amazon. I forgot I ordered them because they took a month or two to show up. Finally came about 2 weeks ago. They're OK I guess. Nothing special.

Meantime I read about the site rrandomize.com where you subscribe to have them send you random shit from Amazon/eBay every month. Seemed like it might provide some entertainment and for $10 a month it's no big deal to fuck about with for a little while. First package I got was a gigantic white leather belt, like for someone 250+ pounds. Second month, this week, was3 of those fucking head massagers. I have 5 of them now.

I also bought a belt that actually fits me. I lead a rich, full life.

Went to Costco and bought just these two items. I'm not sure how accurate the BAC thingy is, but if it is fairly accurate I'm surprised at few drinks it take to get to the legal limit (0.08 here in WA).

For an average sized male, you're pushing your luck if you have more than 2-3 drinks in an hour or two, especially if you're in a state/province that has 24 hour suspensions for being over .05. My rule of thumb has always been that you can have one more drink than the hours you've been drinking. But even that can start pushing your luck.

We always take one with us when we go boating/tubing. You can substitute "take a shot" with "chug a beer" if you don't have any hard liquor nearby.

Repeat that every 10 minutes...use a timer with an alarm so you don't forget. They key to the game is to drink your normal drink consistently enough to maintain a decent BAC, you don't want to go slow or you're always taking the damn shots/chugs. And alternately if you pass it around and you have the highest score...slow down a bit for a while. Maybe drink a glass of water.

Asians on average get higher ba/drink. They also have the smalllla peniz. 1 out of 2.

Don't get me wrong, I pretty much always have a DD since my wife doesn't drink. If I don't have a DD it's either an Uber or couch for me.

But it does have me wondering if when I have a couple of pints of IPA at lunch and my wife asks me if she needs to drive and I'm like "nah, not really" if I'm a lot closer to the legal limit than I think. I mean I literally don't feel it at all and have no reason to not let my wife drive if I thought I was even approaching the legal limit, but if the little doohickey is at all accurate it takes virtually nothing to get up there.

*edit: FWIW I'm 6'0 190lbs, white, and a beeraholic.

my parents bought one for me and my brother after he almost got a dui. they were almost $400 a piece, so assume they were pretty accurate. unfortunately, it backfired on my parents and it became a competition between my brother and i (life in different cities, 150 miles apart). we'd call each other after getting a 'high score'. you can cheat and blow seconds after taking a shot. it wouldn't register anything over .4. anything over .3 required cheating. being shitfaced and not cheating, we were regularly over .2, so they felt accurate. .08 is very little and unless you never drink, you don't 'feel' impaired, though you obviously are.

You guys are following the directions right? I know on mine, some cheapo BACtrack model, you have to stop drinking/eating for 30 minutes before using it to get a truly accurate reading.


I did learn that .08 is not just the legal limit, but pretty much the sweetspot for me playing darts.

Two strong IPAs is definitely toeing very close to the line if your lunch is only an hour.

1 beer/shot/glassofwine an hour is my budget to drive. But i am getting a little more lax.

So I did some science last night. Picked up a sixer of Firestone-Walker IPA. This is at the upper end of a typical IPA ABV at 7.5% but figured it would be a good test.

Test 1- I drank 1 beer over 20 minutes then waited 20 minutes and tested: BAC- 0.04
Test 2- I drank 2 more beers over 40 minutes waited 20 minutes and tested: BAC- 0.09 (In theory I should have 2 beers in my system at this point since beer 1 would have had an hour to process out).
Test 3- I drank 2 more beers over 40 minutes waited 20 minutes and tested: BAC- 0.12 (In theory I'd have 3 beers in my system at this point, with enough time having passed for my body to process out 2 of the 5 total beers I drank).

The test was done between lunch and dinner and was basically on an empty stomach. I don't know what the margin of error is on the tester but it seems like 2 IPA's over an hour definitely gets me close to the borderline legally speaking. In trying to be objective, if I didn't have the tester I would have guessed I was absolutely fine to drive after test #2 and would have guessed I was borderline to drive by test #3 as far as the legal limits. Function wise I think I could have safely operated a motor vehicle after test #3 (but wouldn't).

I think the biggest takeaway I had on this is I'm making the wife drive home after lunch from now on if I've had more than one beer regardless of how I feel.

Yeah, from playing around with those things I've discovered that I don't even feel a buzz until I hit the .10-.12 range. So I could feel stone sober and get a DUI. Kinda scary.
