I worded that wrong...apologies. It's not that it's actually stretched...It just looks off. Like there is too much width vs height in game. On top of that, this will sound stupid, but I see my wall behind the monitor and it feels like something is missing.

Got my steam link in, it is wayyyy smaller than I was thinking. I thought it was going to be about the size of a Nintendo Wii, here's a comparison picture next to my Nexus 5.

I'll post a review later.

No 5.1 sound makes it a pass for me. I was using the Steam in-home streaming for a while on my HTPC in my living room. No surround sound was finally a deal-breaker and I moved my gaming rig into my living room. That said, there has been a long-running thread on the Steam forums about this and just a week or so ago, a Steam rep finally responded that they are working on 5.1 streaming. We'll see how long it takes.

are you saying it's too wide in relation to your relative physical position? Usually basic ergonomic recommendations for viewing distance is 20 to 40in depending. A good easy measure is to stick out your arm with a fist and you should be barely hitting the monitor. With your nose basically in the center of the monitor. If you can't keep these distances/tolerances, a variety a reasons, you're physical height in relation to your chair height, in relation to desk height in relation to monitor height, easiest way to correct it is to get a monitor arm.

These new recent amazon basic arms are performing well, i usually only recommend ergotron arms
Amazon.com: LX Desk Mount LCD Arm: Computers Accessoriesbut the amazon ones seem to be a good clone. Mine are actually wall mounted, but do the same job.

Got my Steam link and controller in yesterday as well and have both it and my PC plugged into my router for now. Only got to play with it for about an hour with Fallout Tale of Two Wastelands and Fallout 4. My system is a few years old (3770k, 660ti, 16gb ram) and ran Fallout 3/New Vegas on ultra with HD texture mods fine but stuttered horribly with 4 on high with godrays off. Hoping black Friday will have specials on 970s or 980s as I think that's the choking point. I think I need a few hours with the controller before commenting beyond it is quite different compared to a Xbox/PS controller.

What is your consensus on that Steam controller Rambilin? Yay or Nay?
I don't like it. I got mine back in mid-October and I just can't get into it. The sticks/buttons are in a weird spot and the haptic pad that replaces the right analog stick is very strange getting used to. The customization and the community sharing of setup profiles is very cool and a big plus. I should give it more time to get used to it, but my initial impression is that it doesn't really improve anything on games that are made for gamepads and it's just not good enough for games that use mouse/keyboard.

Huge nay right now for games like Ultra Street Fighter IV and Binding of Isaac. The face buttons are really small and bunched up together and the dpad is just strange. It's much easier to play those with a paired up PS4 controller or 360 controller. Need more time to play with it with FPS, 3rd person action and 4x strategy games before writing it off completely. The little I've gotten to play of Fallout 4 with aiming felt like Splatoon on the Wii U gamepad which isn't a horrible thing I just never play it compared to the kids. Currently reinstalling Dark Souls, Quake Live, GalCiv 2/3 and the new Unreal Tournament to play around with once the kids go to bed.

One thing that is hard for me to get over is that I can't rest my right thumb on the right disk since it's activated by even the lightest touch. After years of kind of resting it where the buttons are on the PS3/PS4 controller, it's hard for me to keep my finger hovered over the disk until I need to do something since the disk in the same exact spot where the PS4 buttons are.

I got home expecting to just get it setup and make sure it worked, ended up playing Witcher 3 for like 6 hours.

The setup was very simple, quick and straight forward. It was very easy to navigate and worked quite well, even over wifi. There was some hitching now and again (over wifi), but not often enough to even bother me. Even when it was set at Beautiful over speed, it just kept on chugging.

My only complaints were; it didn't look near as good on my bunk ass 2007 TV that it did on my monitor (I know, I know), and that I couldn't figure out a way to switch from one wifi network to another (switching from my 3ghz to my 5ghz). It would let me select it but it would default back to the 3ghz signal immediately, I had to factory reset the whole thing to make it work.

I would like to add that I thought it was cool that they included all the different countries power plugs in the box, so if you travel a lot this thing could be especially handy. Also, here are the ports if anyone is interested.

3x USB ports
1x HDMI
1x Power
1x Cat 5

9/10 - For $50 you can't beat this thing if you're wanting to play from the couch, especially with it's size.

Most TVs have an input latency in excess of 80ms, some can have certain features turned off to improve that... but add network latency and encoding and that sounds like a nightmare for playability.

The lag must have been so minimal that I couldn't see it. Witcher combat requires good timing most the time and I had no issues at all with dodging and movement.

I also never plan to use it for online game, just controller related games (Witcher, Fallout, Bastion, Bioshack, Tomb Raider, etc).

Is there any advantage or reason to get a Link if you've already got a decent HTPC? Mine's getting a bit long in the tooth, but I'm generally not playing bleeding edge games anyways. It's a i5-750 w/ a 670GTX, vs my desktop being a i5-4670 (or similar, don't remember exactly) with a 980Ti. I suppose it would be nice to not have to keep two PC's up to date, but I also use the HTPC as an always on Plex server as well. Maybe it would make sense to ditch the HTPC when I upgrade my NAS box to something that has the horses to transcode by itself.

No, there's no point if you have a device to stream it to already.

Yeah, no reason at all.

Just run your HTPC into the ground then get one, or if you upgrade to a new PC often keep recycling it.

If you wireless router will allow it, set up a SSID for both 3ghz and 5ghz with different names then only give the steam link access to the 5ghz SSID. I do this to make sure only certain devices can hit 5ghz and has worked out pretty good.

I actually had it setup as a different name, but when I would try to connect it would default back to the first wifi I connected to. There was no way to forget the previous network.

For those interested in a 4K monitor...I have finally found THE one. I've been thru about 6 or seven ultrawide screens and 4K's and this is it. Not absolutely perfect, but close enough. The size is perfect. Bigger than a 27". Not overly large and low res like my LG TV. Much better height and enough vertical when compared to the Ultrawides.

This Philips BDM4065UC 40" monitor is a 9/10.

It does have one issue IMO. The colors look washed out, out the box. Even with adjusting the monitors colors, I needed to use the Nvidia vibrancy to get the color I wanted. Problem solved. It could be a tad brighter for me. But no one I have read seems to have that issue. Probably just my tastes.

These blacks are so black, I looked at my screen, nodded my head and said "My Wakandan". A fist came out the screen and gave me dap.

The blacks are deep enough to make the screen look turned off. No exaggeration. It really makes for an amazing picture.

The cables it comes with are garbage. Spend the 10 bucks on Amazon and get a real DP cable.

A GTX980 has no problem of giving me about 40-50FPS in BF4 with everything on High to Ultra.

League of Legends has issues at 4k. Map is too small to be useful now other than alerts, and the text is too big. Max FPS all ultra settings.

Tera is severely CPU dependent. I get ultra 4K gaming glory at 35FPS. Same as I did at 1080P.

D3 was the biggest difference. From 1080P to 4k is absolutely nuts. I was expecting a huge hit in FPS with a single GTX980, but I am st a stable 40-50FPS. The sharpness is crazy. I know any 1080p to 4K will be like this, but man it's something.

Can't wait for Star Wars Battlefront now!
