I'm such a coffee peasant. I don't give a shit how it tastes, as long as it's strong.
Usually when ppl tell me they only like "strong" coffee, what they're telling me is that they've had too much dank shit in their lives.
While i really don't like how they've established themselves, independent coffee shops probably have the best blend of coffees, if you really want to see and taste good coffee search for an establishment/coffee house that has "pour over", usually a coffee house that has pour over will also have a good barista, (usually a hippie looking guy, not some college girl that tamps with all her strength) and are roasting in the back.
I'm really not that into it but i do really enjoy a various coffee beverages and I think I'm going start drinking more later in the day. Hopefully throwing money at it will make my morning routine both easier and tastier...I'll definitely give amazon a try as long it's not catshit coffee or ends up costing 2 bucks a cup at home as I'm sure charleston doesn't have shit for roasters
Naw what i've noticed is that unless you're specifically looking for "organic" on it, it'll skyrocket to 1.50 per ounce, most of the ones i've found are a good .60ish to .99 an ounce, which is really good.
Your basic supermarket will have some brands like 8oclock coffee for .40ish an ounce, but that's really bottom basic coffee, they're ok, but there is zero oil on the beans (beans will have to be oily, that's where the flavor come from after roasting). While starbucks is about a 1.20ish an ounce.
And this is only if your supermarket carries whole bean, i've found that it is very rare for a supermarket to carry whole bean, 90% of the time it'll all be ground (which is dog shit, no matter the brand)
my preferences have been to look for whole beans, with good "roasted" dates.
