^ Crazy when you think of it all. Had Rick flat out killed him earlier, the old man would have lived, but it didn't matter as his wife died anyways. Then you throw in killing the husband "saved" the family from abuse which all died without his protection. The mental state of the child was obviously affected by his fathers death and had he not been beat by Rick and later killed, that family may have survived all that mess.
Semi long story short, don't fuck with family affairs, just fuck the wife instead. You may end up getting them all killed by brain hungry zombies.

This episode was the best of the series. Hands down.

Is it bad I was cheering when that little kid bought the farm?

I don't get this at all. This episode was entertaining, but it didn't make any sense. There used to be logic to how the walkers reacted, now they just do whatever fits the story at the time.

The show is the show, warts and all, and I enjoy it, but I really do not understand what made this episode so great when I can think of 8-10 off the top of my head that were just flat out better crafted episodes of TV.

I think a majority of the viewers were itching to see Ralph Wiggum and Porchdick Jr. to be killed off. Since both of them bit it, and combo that with Negan's men getting gibbed, it was a total winner of an episode.

I'm surprised by the positive reactions this is getting. Yes, there was a great amount of action. Definitely not a filler episode. But I sat there watching it thinking either (a) they have a guest director this week or (b) this show has completely jumped the shark.

1. The retcon cliffhangers. Last episode ended with the dumbass kid saying "mom, mom" shortly after they left the porch. They very clearly showed this. This episode -- that never happened. Instead, he kept his mouth shut and they kept going, had a big conversation in the middle of the walker horde, split up to send the baby off with the preacher, resumed their journey and THEN he pulled his "mom, mom" line.

This isnt the first time TWD has pulled this shit. They end one episode on a cliffhanger then change the cliffhanger in the first 5 seconds of the next episode so it never happened. Cheap bullshit, and bad writing.

2. inconsistent walker responses. One minute they can have a big conversation in the middle of the horde with no response, the next minute a single word is enough to bring instant ninja zombies from every direction. These fuckers are literally biting characters instantly when the make a noise, after just seconds ago ignoring a big conversation.

Good thing the ninja zombies that killed Ricks new woman were all gone by the time he and the rest of the cast went on a killing spree later. Rick and co. wouldnt have stood a chance. Instead, by that time only the slow moving soft headed zombies were left.

3. inconsistent character abilities and responses. One minute even Rick cant do anything -- and doesnt even try -- as the walkers eat his woman while he's holding her hand. Later in the same episode, he takes on hundreds of them no problem. Even the noobs from Alexandria jump in and suffer zero casualties. Nice job assholes -- if simplywalkingout in the street and swinging your stick around is all it took to turn the tide, why the fuck didnt you try it days ago?

Just as Glenn's about to die, the red haired dude shows up with an automatic rifle. Neat. Except for the rest of the episode its back to hand to hand combat. WTF?

The episode was either one long chain of cheap gimmicks played for shock value or a bunch of terribly edited clips shot with no thought as to what order they would air in, then randomly spliced together.

Good action doesnt have to mean abandoning all logic. Lets not even talk about the fucking wolf all of a sudden getting a conscience; WTF?

Why are you suddenly holding the show to some high standard like it hasn't been like thiseveryseason? We got some action, some fun scenes, and a lot less useless emo conversations. Win-win.

I'm just glad a handful of people waded into a horde of zombies with melee weapons and held their own, like it should be. Now, to see if they stick with that, or if we have to wait another six seasons.

Agree with everything you've said other than I don't think the wolf thing was too bad. He only saved her to save himself at the ladder. Later he "redeems himself"(not that he even needed to since whatsherface had ample time to get away), but I don't think its unreasonable for him to suddenly have a conscience when he knows he is a goner.

There were way too many scenes that had me rolling my eyes and cringing from the cheese for me to consider that episode as one of the best. I'm actually kinda pissed they killed Jessie, she was the hottest chick on the show.

Thanks Captain Bringdown. As long that shitkid died for being a stupid tittybaby in a zombocalypse I don't care if he died an hour later than expected. It was glorious nonetheless

What he said. Sure I wanted those shitty kids to die, but I thought it was pretty terribly done. I guess I'm in the minority though. Same with Darryl and the grenade launcher being able to sneak up on everyone, although I give that a pass since he did actually kill the guy that went to the back with him, and them blowing up was super awesome enough for me not to care.

I'm ok with the two sons dying, they both took after their father, but I was a little upset at Rick's blonde side dish biting it.

There were some inconsistencies, there always are, but don't forget.. Any bite is lethal. As soon as one walker has sunk their teeth into someone, if it's not a limb that can be immediately amputated, they are fucked. It's just a matter of time. The survivors know this, so seeing someone take a bite in the neck is the same as seeing them get their head blown off by a bullet, cept they will suffer longer.
Saying Rick should have 'done something' after she got bit, there was nothing he could do at that point.

When they had their conversation, they had walked off away from most of the walkers. When they got attacked, they were right in the middle of them, like a mosh pit. I don't have any problems with those scenes.

re: Abe and Sasha showing up with semi-automatics; they didn't really go into the melee of zombie bashers, they setup the gasoline in the lake. Plus, they may have been out of bullets after saving Glenn, trying to not draw attention to their position with more noise, saving the bullets, etc..

The episode was good because it was epic. It had tons of action, zombie slaughter, annoying characters dying, etc.. if you don't enjoy an episode like this, I don't know why you are watching TWD. We plow through a bunch of overly dramatic filler episodes to get one like this. This is the payoff for all those boring ass episodes, so if you think this episode was 'bad', I'd suggest you just stop watching the show and save yourself the torment. It's not going to get significantly better then this. This was a top 5 moment in the entirety of the comics so far.

Still has the problem for me that when something happens that is supposed to be tense or epic, like the rocket launcher or dues ex machinegun, I don't usually cheer or phew, but usually end up laughing. Even when they're trying really hard to be serious if you aren't laughing at this show most of the time you're doing it wrong. Buuuuut, inconsistencies, bullshit and eye-rolling aside I'd consider this one of the better episodes. Savor this episode, friends, because the show is only as good as the dialog is limited and next week they'll no doubt be back to having to talk to each other a lot.
