This episode was the best of the series. Hands down.
Is it bad I was cheering when that little kid bought the farm?
I'm surprised by the positive reactions this is getting. Yes, there was a great amount of action. Definitely not a filler episode. But I sat there watching it thinking either (a) they have a guest director this week or (b) this show has completely jumped the shark.
1. The retcon cliffhangers. Last episode ended with the dumbass kid saying "mom, mom" shortly after they left the porch. They very clearly showed this. This episode -- that never happened. Instead, he kept his mouth shut and they kept going, had a big conversation in the middle of the walker horde, split up to send the baby off with the preacher, resumed their journey and THEN he pulled his "mom, mom" line.
This isnt the first time TWD has pulled this shit. They end one episode on a cliffhanger then change the cliffhanger in the first 5 seconds of the next episode so it never happened. Cheap bullshit, and bad writing.
2. inconsistent walker responses. One minute they can have a big conversation in the middle of the horde with no response, the next minute a single word is enough to bring instant ninja zombies from every direction. These fuckers are literally biting characters instantly when the make a noise, after just seconds ago ignoring a big conversation.
Good thing the ninja zombies that killed Ricks new woman were all gone by the time he and the rest of the cast went on a killing spree later. Rick and co. wouldnt have stood a chance. Instead, by that time only the slow moving soft headed zombies were left.
3. inconsistent character abilities and responses. One minute even Rick cant do anything -- and doesnt even try -- as the walkers eat his woman while he's holding her hand. Later in the same episode, he takes on hundreds of them no problem. Even the noobs from Alexandria jump in and suffer zero casualties. Nice job assholes -- if simplywalkingout in the street and swinging your stick around is all it took to turn the tide, why the fuck didnt you try it days ago?
Just as Glenn's about to die, the red haired dude shows up with an automatic rifle. Neat. Except for the rest of the episode its back to hand to hand combat. WTF?
The episode was either one long chain of cheap gimmicks played for shock value or a bunch of terribly edited clips shot with no thought as to what order they would air in, then randomly spliced together.
Good action doesnt have to mean abandoning all logic. Lets not even talk about the fucking wolf all of a sudden getting a conscience; WTF?
