The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor: Robert Kirkman, Jay Bonansinga: 9780312547738: Amazon.com: Books

if you want more backstory on the govenor
remember that the govenor was intended as the "what if" to rick, as in "what if rick made these choices", then he'd be the govenor as well, the govenor was the wimpy older brother of philip and philip's daughter penny, they are on the run with a few friends. a few things happen with other groups of ppl, basically philip(govenor's brother) has to take care of the group cuz he's a natural leader and the govenor is just a wimpy older brother. soon philips daughter penny is shot dead and philip enacts vengeance and starts acting all crazy but still protective of the small group of his only wimpy brother (govenor) and a few friends. They stumble onto woodberry, at this time he's able to convince his group to keep zombie penny alive, some things happen in woodberry that makes one of the friends kill philip cuz he was just too crazy, the wimpy govenor finally breaks down and kills his last friend (the group is now decimated) and his zombied phlip brother. Woodbury's leader started to make drastic changes, and forces woodberry to agree, some guy doesn't and woodberry's leader kills that protestor. the govenor, takes on his new personality and kills the leader of woodberry, and woodberry starts to turn to the govenor for leadership and he calls himself "philip" (essentially taking on his brothers persona)

Depends what they do with the character. They are seemingly (so far) are in the process of turning this show around completely and I don't mind seeing the new writers take on the Governor.

Oh hey, let's spend 8 hours propping up the fence with logs instead of 45 minutes stabbing them in their paper mache heads to kill EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ONE FOREVER.

.....Still, the biggest problem this show has is lack of overarching goal/plot... ...Instead it's just "Days of Our Lives" in Zombieland with really nothing to look forward to-- that "goal" which would signal the end of the series..
My biggest problem with the show is the lack of character growth, like Hospitol Herschel reverting back to the Farm Herschel so that he could see the world has changed and he has to change with it, again. Very much like characters in "Days of our Lives", their world views never change and they have the same problems over and over again just with a new coat of paint. The overarching plot could help but its not a guarantee and is not neccessary. There was no overarch in "The Sopranos" but there was character growth.

Did this flu story arc happen in the comic book? Overall I enjoyed it because it seemed in theme with where I'd like the show to go. People dealing with the new world they're in. Rather than people dying over and over to zombies without ever getting smarter.

I think every episode is going to have a "dumb zombie scene" and we just have to deal with that. Most people are watching this because 'omg zombies!' and they don't know any better.

Anyway, bummed about the Governor cliffhanger. Pretty convenient that he shows up right as everyone is going to get healthy again. I'm pretty sure he himself could have stormed that prison while everyone was sick. Maybe not considering we have sniper shot Carl still around.

I expect this show to get really stupid all over again.

What's also funny is that they sent the team to get antibiotics at the vet hospital, but from all appearances (and I believe they mention it) it's the flu, which of course is a virus and is not effected by antibiotics.

The antibiotics are meant to treat the symptoms caused by the virus, not the virus itself. This is something that happens everyday.

What symptoms are cured by antibiotics? As far as I know, antibiotics strictly work by perforating the cell wall of bacteria or by inhibiting their replication. Unless a virus (like AIDS) causes a secondary infection that is bacterial in nature, I don't see what benefit they hold.. Not saying you're wrong, I've just never heard of this before. I know a lot of docs will (erroneously) prescribe antibiotics for a "cold", but it's more to cover their ass in case the cold is actually a bacterial infection..

That was actually one of the strongest episode this dumb ole shows ever had. Hope the rest of the season keeps on trucking.

Does it make everyone angry they only started shutting the doors to the cells when it was pretty much too late. wtf aren't they always in shut cells when they sleep even when they aren't sick.

it is part of the whole theme of the opening of this season, they had things under control. most everyone had hope they were about to "win" and return to something sorta normal.

I am honestly glad though that they did not spend the whole season milking "the flu" tangent... it came, it killed off all the extras and now back to ... ahhh crap, the governor, okay okay, can we have the flu back instead please?

I'm excited to watch them turn the show around with a full 360!

I'm just glad Hershel had so much experience intubating animals on the farm. Though, makes me wonder, if a guy has stopped breathing on his own in the middle of the fucking zombocalypse maybe it's time you just put him down.... and if a person is still breathing on their own you open their airway to let the breath and stop choking, you don't squeeze the fucking ball because I imagine it's really annoying and I swear I remember in CPR classes they specifically said DON'T give assisted breathing to people who are already fucking breathing on their own.

Then again, if you're a veterinarian you actually check up on your village pigs when they're sick, too. And you don't finally remember those fucking berries exist after years of nobody apparently ever getting a fucking fever. And you don't wait until an epidemic to tell everyone animals use the same medicine as people do, so maybe they should raid the vet college. Here's a zombocalypse pro-tip: stock up on as many meds as you can BEFORE people will die if you don't bring back meds in a matter of hours!

Ignorance is such a lame story-telling device.

BTW does anyone else think Carl should be the leader? Rick and Herschel are emo fagwads, Darryl and Michonne are badass loners, the black fellas are either drunk or crazy, Glenn and Maggie's fine ass are busy fucking. Carl is stone cold, analytical, and ready for action. Put my boy at the helm and this shit is smooth sailing.

Logically Carl is going to be leader once Rick is gone. Rick and Herschel are still clinging to the "old" world. That's a big part of their characters. Without Rick "protecting" Carl and giving him some sense of humanity, he'd be drawing lil pictures in blood with Lizzie.
