my realest question still is if the assault rifle they use really goes burst if you just hold the trigger.
Surely there's a gun buff here who knows that...

If you are shooting a fully automatic rifle, it will continue to shoot until you let go of the trigger. It takes a little bit of feeling out, and discipline, to maintain control of your shots and burst. You want to main for 2-3 round bursts to maintain good aiming control and not waste bullets. However, on fully automatic weapons there is usually an option for semi-automatic firing.

And since we're investigating the physics of logs, wouldn't the logs have been pushed back and fallen before snapping? You know, on account of the loose gravel they simply placed the logs on without any sort of abutment? My guess is the crew had to fasten the logs to the fence to even get them to stay in place.

I wasn't really paying attention. There are plenty of rifles (and mods?) that fire three round bursts when you hold the trigger, and you have to let up to fire another burst. At least that's how I remember the regular rifles being in basic. The M-60 though, you had to let up and manually control the bursts or the barrel would get too hot, which was harder to control, but more fun. So, it's definitely possible they had ones that shot three round bursts, especially if they got them from the national guard guys that were standing around last season giving their weapons away instead of trying to use them.
Sorry new here but I am Glad Glen survived was really worried plus he and Daryl and the cutest guys on the show.

I think they were just sitting in open containers, maybe even barrel up, outside, unprotected from the elements and Georgia humidity... so if it rains and you get thirsty just drink from a rifle barrel! Because surely a prison wouldn't have an armory or weapons room they mentioned in prior episodes. It's sad when even video games are more realistic in how they leave guns and ammo laying around for you to pick up.
Thought it was pretty stupid how everyone died/turned at the exact same time from the flu then Herschel decided to drop the people's elbow on the zombie in a cage match brawl instead of kill the damn thing prior to stealing his mask.
I was also wondering why they didn't just take out the fully autos and mow down the zombies prior to setting up the log supports. It was obvious there were tons of them there ready to break it down.
