Only thing i got from that trailer is the gov is gonna use that tank to wtfpwn the prison. All those gov pointing a gun at rick and carl and ADR is just editing tomfoolery.

Its gonna be a massive three way fight between Rick, the Gov, and that massive zombie horde they showed earlier in the season.

Honestly I see it ending much closer to the Prison arc in the comics in terms of deaths and under what circumstances.
the only good that came out of the comic prison ending

but yes, i'm pretty sure this is what is gonna happen (assumed comic spoilers)
being that the maggie clone is named "lilly", and we know what she does in the end, plus the trailer showed us the tank, and... the baby is still alive and so is tyreese, this just seems like they're trying to redo the comic prision portion correctly, rather than the flop they had last season, especially now that the woodbury redshirts are all killed off

So ...
maybe Beth is going out holding Judith in place of Lori?

Yup. I bet Beth = Lori during the showdown, which means she + "little asskicker" will die. Also good call on Lilly...I bet that will play out just like the comic.

Seems pretty stupid though

Governor has no real reason to go after Rick again, at least yet. Unless something really fucked up happens the story is too muddled to make any sense. It's weak as hell trying to play a redemption arc then just throwing it away to make things line up with the comics. At this point in the comics the governor is pretty much insane. Our governor is just a grizzled broken man coming back from the brink. Bro needs to just take his tank in any other direction, there are like 50 prisons in Georgia, surely you can find another in like 30 minutes

Good point by Bixxby. Why would they spend an entire episode trying to humanize the Gov only to have him go chaotic evil?

At the same time, would this level of inconsistency in the writing for this show surprise you at all?

No, I've actually come to expect the writing to make no sense.

No but in the comic series they never attempted to make the Gov look good in any light. He was self-important, mostly hated by the population, a rapist and completely out of his mind. Very few of these qualities translate to the TV show adaptation. So trying to connect dots between the comics and the TV series I feel is always a bit misguided. Because outside of the character names and some overall high-level arcs the two share very little.

my take on it is comic centric spoilers/maybe
they don't have much "story" to go on so they are basically taking the govenor's origin story and twisting it around a bit, that part where he took his name written on the house? a twist of his origin. that's all TWD tv does now really is twist TWD comics around a bit to make it look original and say "look at me, we're not copying the comics" but if you read the comics everything is taken from there, just jumbled up, it's actually so jumbled up to the point that i'm totally confused and i find it down right hard separating 100ish issues of comics from 4seaons of TWD.

right now they're re-telling the origin story of the govenor, cuz? why the hell not, there's no rhyme or reason for it, it fills up 1/2 maybe even 3 eps and i think it's gotten a good enough reception that it was a good play (my tv night crew who haven't read the comics liked it and waiting for next week) are they gonna mix in some story? sure they can go about it tons of ways.

they can make the govenor super sappy, he'll do anything for the girl, he'll goto the safest place in the world to protect her, the prison. he'll beg rick, he'll do anything and rick will reject him, and then he'll go govenor 3.0 and revert to taking over the prison again, rick "forced" his hand.

sure there might be other safer places... but you'd have to find them first, and you can't just go on expeditions in zombieland, you goto where you know places definitly are, and the prison is def there.

They'll still have call-backs to the comic every now and again. Like Ty getting surrounded and hacking his way out of the zombie hoard a few episodes ago. But for the most part the show isn't following too closely. Which I think is both good and bad. Hopefully at some point Negan makes an appearance since I like him more than the Gov in the comic. I feel he is a deeper character as well.

I'm guessing that Macon will end up being the TV's version of the comic's DC arc (which is what I'm guessing the radio broadcast will tie into). They aren't leaving Georgia filming wise, so it makes sense to morph some of the country traveling storylines to be more "local".

well negan vs. gov is no contest, negan is a fleshed out character with motivations/philosophy, insight and all that, gov is just cray cray. imo negan is the gov done right. while yes, they aren't following the comics and using it as a storyboard, i can't say they aren't downright plagiarising the comics, it's heavily inspired.

What would make the most 'sense' to me (which means it will never happen) is the gov leads his new ladies to the prison, makes sure they get in, then he goes driving off in the tank by himself. There's no way the prison peoples will let him in, and he knows this. They won't even talk to him. He wants these people to be safe, and away from him is probably the safest place they can be. Most definitely not the way things WILL happen because, drama+.

The gov can walk through zombie hoards np. Prison people, despite being in a fucking prison, are in constant danger from their own stupidity and have some weird need to deal with their own personal dramas instead of surviving. They have shown they are incapable of leading or organizing anything. Any new member is pretty much dead within 2 weeks.

They're safer with the gov, and he should probably be running the prison anyway.

Maybe, but doubtful. What I think will happen is Gov will let his need for revenge run counter to his desire to protect his new family unit. He will lie and paint them as evil, but something will need to happen to get them to buy onto the story. Gov wtfpwns prison (or part of it), bunch of main char die, death of a certain character causes scenario to end like comic arc, survivors try to find the source of radio broadcast.
