even if they opened theaters 100% today, not even half of the average moviegoers will go to the theaters. the boogeyman virus might get them. then take into consideration the people who realized they could make a decent movie going experience right in their own homes now. a good chunk may never go back to watching movies in theaters again. if the studios were smart, they would do a dual release of select theaters and streaming from home. i think Hollywood is going to be the biggest losers when all is said and done. i am not just talking about US sales.

I’m sitting my gorgeous home theater right now, 120” 4K screen, 7.2 or whatever surround. Insane home bar stocked up in my kitchen and all the popcorn I could ever want and other snacks. No morons on their phone. I’d gladly never go back.

Was there a run on home theater gear during the pandemic?? I hope so. I would gladly pay $50+ to watch a premier movie at home.

Hollywood is doomed right now. This shit couldn't have hit at a worse time for Marvel/Disney which, lets be honest, has been the only consistent big dick box office draw for the last 10+ years besides the usual Pixar releases. Marvel retiring the big dogs and finishing the epic 11 year story arc last spring with nothing of note on the immediate horizon = rekt.
Fortunately, this happened AFTER Marvel completed Phase 4. Who cares if it fucks up Phase 5. It was all about 4. That was the bread and butter of the movie industry.

Phase 3 but you're right. After the Infinity Saga, Marvel was supposed to be all about D&I. Now if they add and "E", meh. I am bummed about Tenet, though. But I will never willingly go to a regular theater again. IPIC Theaters is the only way to see a movie.

Disney has shifted the release dates for all of its upcoming Star Wars and Avatar sequels, delaying them all by a year.

Disney has seven different Avatar and Star Wars projects in the works that were originally set to take over the holiday season slots starting in 2021. Now the company has opted to push back the release of all of these films. Avatar 2 was to be released on December 17th of 2021 but has now been pushed back to December 16th of 2022. Avatar 3 was to be released on December 20th of 2023 but has now been bumped back to December 22nd of 2024. Avatar 4 will now be released on December 18th of 2026 instead of December 19th of 2025. Avatar 5 was originally set to be released on December 17th of 2027 but will now be released on December 22nd of 2028.

In addition, Disney has also bumped back the released dates of all three of the upcoming Star Wars films. The first of these Star Wars films was set to be released on December 16th of 2022 but has now been pushed back to December 22nd of 2023. The second film was to be released on December 20th of 2024 but will now be released on December 19th of 2025. The last of these three Star Wars films was set to premiere on December 18th of 2026 but now has a December 17th release date in 2027.

they just gave the competition a free year to rake in the dough while Disney sucks their own dick.

Avatar was a major money sink. They're banking on the fact that you need IMAX/3D up charged on ticket prices to stand a chance of getting a ROI for the film.

tldr - my basic understanding
AMC has $2+ billion debt, they are going to exchange First Lien Notes for $1.45b of Second Lien Notes,
reducing their debt total by $460m to $630m. Second Lien Notes offer better place in line when it comes to bankruptcy.
they are also offering $300m in new First Lien Notes.
which will get them to spring

Cineworld, parent company of Regal, announced its theatres will begin to reopen U.S. locations on Friday, Aug. 21 in response to the recent changes in the upcoming theatrical release schedule.

This is it literally after we hung the screen. So that whole wall used to be a bookshelf, and my theater was haphazardly setup on the wall to the right. So it was moving the projector, the inceiling speakers, the rear speakers, etc. And then of course my guy had to construct this whole thing. So it's about 2.5 or so feet deep. The side cabinets are huge cabinets with shelves etc. All the theater gear is in the right cabinet. Behind the acoustically transparent screen is one large cabinet with my L C R speakers and two subs. It sounds great, I'm sure it could sound better if I moved out the subs, but I wanted this look where it looks like a piece of furniture or something, and there is no visible theater gear in the room. The in ceiling speakers are paint matched to the ceiling, and the rears are on custom bookshelves with books, etc, all next to them so they kind of look normal. This is an unfinished pic of the bookshelves:

The upper part of the bookshelves has the speaker wires hanging out where the rears are. I also moved the projector up a little.

my local cinemark that closed permanently, looks like an independent is going reopen it "in a few months". the marquee was open, showing old movies, but closed again with no set date to reopen.

couple of headlines this week
-
Cinemark and Regal have more theaters than AMC and they don't want to shorten the theatrical window
-
Cinemark Lost $170 Million in Q2
-
AMC Theatres lost $561 million in one quarter, with revenue down nearly 100%, because of COVID-19
-
stock update from 1st post
AMC up $1.72
Cineworld down $16.33
Cinemark down $1.08
Cineplex down $5.01
Marcus down $0.16

do these people lose less money by being closed than being open? cuz if it was my theater, i would be open in any way i could. id limit attendance and put up plastic screens around the concessions. but i would be open.
