It's going to be rolling lockdowns until at least November. If Trump is reelected, add 4 years to that. I can't wait for Hollywood to get fucking shit on.
Hard;y. People are already noping out of all that lockdown shit. Any governor that wants to be reelected is going to pack it in by the end of the summer.

i thought that was the case, but their best allies: sports figures and hollywood celebs are all getting BTFO by these lockdowns. the sporting goods chain in my area Modell's went out of business. they were THE place for all kinds of licensed sporting goods. when these blue tyrants get done screwing around with these lockdowns and mask larps, there is going to be a smoking crater where a lot of pup culture used to be. their pop culture.

heh. Modell's. I think there was one in the Mall near where I lived on Long Island. Place was the place.

Retail is just so sad to see get demolished. My mom and dad met at JC Pennys way back, both worked at same store.

I remember going to the mall with mom and grandma. I was a little kid and would crawl around inside the racks and stuffs. Fairly sure I got lost several times.

Those were my first dungeon crawls dammit.

But you are right Chukzombi Culture burying itself and making something else, but what that is going to look like probably does not include being able to larp dungeon crawling. I think it mainly involves just giving money to Jeff Bezos.

My favorite part of theaters is that my lady has to actually watch the movie. Can't be distracted by her phone, miss large portions of the movie, and then ask what is going on.

was talking about something like this the other day, but for all the empty malls. the backside of one of the local malls is far larger than any drive-in around here.

on the other hand, China is supposed to be reopening theaters starting July 20th, with no concession sales. movies must be under 2 hours and masks worn the whole time.

The local theater chain out here is doing something to stay afloat during Corona. They're calling it a VIP treatment.

iM6WAUc.png

They also have one for console gaming. $200 for 2 hours (with +$100 for every additional hour after the first 2) with up to 10 friends. You provide the console & game(s) of your choice, and they'll provide the enormous screen. They're doing the same concession packages for that as well.

To be honest, these are decent ideas. If I had extra money, I'd jump on it just because.

Ok that is legit as fuck. I'd drop $250 to get everyone to go see Dune or Tenet (of course I'd make them pay me back, but yeah).

our local independent place offers several packages like that, but have to call for prices now. i think it used to be like $9 each with 20 or 30 person min. their normal ticket price is only $7

These are good ideas. Very good. The parking lot into drive-in idea would be awesome.

I think too many theaters are too scaled up tho. Too much damn real estate, too many rooms to fill. Smaller places can do this and maybe even make money.

But hell yeah, private parties, get some concessions in there like some decent bbq, also seek out community groups and tell them you can host them for special events.

Theaters, especially smaller ones, should not give up. The huge cineplexes, meh, I'm not sure that is a loss, to be honest.

This theater chain is a Hawaii Exclusive, called Consolidated Theaters. On the islands, they're actually the biggest game in town with some gorgeous (huge) theaters. There's also a single Regal here, but Consolidated is the big dog.

They hold the upstairs of this building (share a little bit on the left of the picture with Dave & Busters)

This is their newest location.

This is the other location they're doing that VIP treatment at.

with estimated budget of $205m, they will probably have to wait till 100% open with no social distancing.
even if they opened theaters 100% today, not even half of the average moviegoers will go to the theaters. the boogeyman virus might get them. then take into consideration the people who realized they could make a decent movie going experience right in their own homes now. a good chunk may never go back to watching movies in theaters again. if the studios were smart, they would do a dual release of select theaters and streaming from home. i think Hollywood is going to be the biggest losers when all is said and done. i am not just talking about US sales.

Hollywood is doomed right now. This shit couldn't have hit at a worse time for Marvel/Disney which, lets be honest, has been the only consistent big dick box office draw for the last 10+ years besides the usual Pixar releases. Marvel retiring the big dogs and finishing the epic 11 year story arc last spring with nothing of note on the immediate horizon = rekt.
