I understand rating T2 as the superior film but I could watch Total Recall and The Running Man way more times than T2.
Predator and Conan may be my favorite Arnold films, but holy shit i saw Commando way more than both of them combined. its basically a movie entirely of Arnold one liners. its not long, its got tits, lots of gore, action and so much cheese in it. also at the time its one of the few films that i got decent sound separation on my stereo system with. maybe i should say its my favorite Arnold film, but its really hard to say because Predator is such an incredibly well made film and Conan was so off the charts cool. i wish i could say one was best. Total Recall and T2 are up there. but i know for sure i dont have the same nostalgia feelings for either of them. maybe because both are 90s flicks and i wasnt such an impressionable teen by then.

Total Recall and Running Man are both good sci fi movies but sadly Arnold is the weakest parts of both of them. Though hes probably the reason both where made so cant hate too much.

Also Running Man was incredibly different from the book. Ironically reading the synopsis of it on wikipedia it has incredibly strong parallels to whats actually going on today.

Commando has the scenes where Matrix runs across a stretch of open lawn being fired at by 6 guys with machine guns, turns and sprays from the hip and enemies instantly go down. The scenes where the guard towers are obviously made out of plywood are great. But the best scenes are 1) the saw blade shurikens and 2) let off some steam, Bennett.

Oh come on, him jumping out of an airplane into the safety of 3' high water.

The guy running and hiding in a phone booth so Arnold just runs over, rips it out of the ground, and fucking throws it.

The car chase where the guy wrecks his car so in order to stop Arnold figures breaks are for pussies and slams his car head first into a pole to stop

The entire movie is pure gold and easily Arnold's best. The very beginning is him walking around carrying a tree like that's some shit a human can do

Okay so I forgot some of the epic parts. But slinging circular saw blades that bury themselves at least 2/3 of the blade deep in an man’s skull (or didn’t one just basically cleanly slice off a portion of one guys head? Memory foggy in my old age) is up there with the best.

Him finally running out of ammo after firing 25,000 rounds so he starts killing people with gardening equipment is absolutely top tier shit.

My whole point was the best part of Commando starts when we first see Arnold's bicep wrapped around a tree and ends when his former CO asks "Leave anything for us?" and Arnold replies "Only bodies"

there are only two people who can pull off walking around in a chain mail vest. Frodo and Bennet.

Yeah, the way Arnold gets set up in The Running Man is almost word for word what CNN and MSNBC did to Kyle Rittenhouse. It's kind of stunning.

LET OFF SOME STEAM, BENNET

I like how this thread quickly turned into people appreciating Commando.

And holy shit, I just realized I've only seen the TV version of the movie, like so many other things growing up. I didn't even know it had tits. I need to fix this and see the real version ASAP.

This was one of the few times where the movie was better than the book. I knew the story was going to be different going in, but I read it last year and was very disappointed. The ending was garbage.

Predator at least has no weak points. Edward Furlong's acting and some forced humor did not age well in T2.

I agree I don’t think there is one part of predator that isn’t perfect and still working today. Effects slightly aged out but hold up pretty damn good given the age.

T2 - I will say this. The Effects and action, like Jurassic park, are still better than most shit coming out today. I truly believe you could show them to kids right now and they would believe they were made within the last 10 years. The only things Not aging well in T2 is changes in society, like style, pay phones, no cell phones etc.

Oh yeah they did. Used to watch this all the time on weekend afternoons on WGN and the Turner Networks. It’s crazy how much shit they got away with in terms of violence and gore in those days, while have zero nudity or swearing. Now today there isn’t shit for violence or gore but you can’t watch a show on FX without hearing a few fucks and seeing tons of man ass and sex scenes

The tits are literally blink and you'll miss it.

They bust into a room while fighting and a guy and a girl are banging before she quickly covers up.

The hilarious, and never mentioned in the movie, part is they're going doggy style and the girl is behind the guy like she's pegging him or something.

Commando and Hard Target my are two favorite movies that people think are dumb action, but are secretly brilliant

I fucking LOVE these cheesy, B-film, action flicks from the 80s and 90s, and I'm not ashamed to say it. The one liners, the over the top action, the impossible fights, the stereotypes. Fucking love all of it man. Arnie was king of them, but Steven Segal, Van Damme and some others also are good. The Die Hard films are a legacy of these too. They don't make them like they used to, though. God I miss going down to the video store in the mid 90s and grabbing a double feature of epic action films. Fight me!

Edit: By "B-film" I don't only mean low budget, since many had high production rates and A list actors, but they had that feel to them, of not taking life too seriously.
