Another assumption I have is that we have already met the killer by now..and he will be revealed in a "Scooby Doo" moment. (As season one did with the lawnmower man early on)
Also fits with the Columbo reference.

He's just a burnout like she said. I was thinking that before she said it, and smiled when the tv show actually announced it. He's tired of life. It keeps throwing him shit, and he just wants to avoid any more. This assignment is just giving him an extra pile of shit so he wants to squirm out of it.

im sure we have, but honestly its not worth the effort in figuring it out. lets say its vince vaughn's GF. she is trying to push her limp dick bf out of the way so she could run his business and has a personal hatred for casper and stan, but is ambivalent about velcoro so he gets the nerf bullet treatment, which for some reason knocked him unconscious. doesnt make sense you say? it doesnt matter, its gonna be how i solve the case if this show doesnt get good in 2 weeks

I don't understand how ppl aren't raging at how horrible VV makes every scene, he's just terrible and you guys are content w/ him doing a Rocky impression?

The correct opinion is that VV sucks, has no screen presence and everyone around VV is doing a better job acting, even gold tooth sumo. OMG, he and gay cop are so boring the only thing they get from me is FF.
Rocky?! Slow down, sparky. He was clearly doing an impersonation of Bob Barker in Happy Gilmore!

W was still in one of the best scenes, imo, under the underpass with the whole 'woah buddy whatdya do to piss off guys like that' Watching it back, that scene was actually pretty good, but we have no idea if it was relevant or had any meaning at all, so it was just sorta forgotten. But yeah, he's terribad. I think with good writing and good directing, playing to his strengths, he could have been good. But it seems like they're just letting everyone do whatever they want, and maybe W isn't the kinda guy that can manage drama without direction?

If a cop is doing this shit, and wanting to cover it up quickly, or use it to expose corruption in the police force, the last thing you want to do is kill a cop.
The easiest cop to kill is a dirty one. A dirty cop has every reason in the world to be killed, so you can try to pin it on just about anyone. You'd have to bring in outside forces, especially since there was already an external investigation going, but he's dirty, he's dead, you just set him up for everything. He won't be talking. So, if a cop knew Velcro was a cop, why would he respect that relationship? Why would someone wanting to cover something up quickly leave the worst evidence: a witness.

Most logical thing, if there's any reason to trust logic, is the Mayor is against W. They don't want Velcro solving the case, because they're behind it. The City Manager was a liability and would even be a problem because the one thing corrupt fuckups with ridiculous houses and unreliable families hate, are other fuckups with even more crazy shit going on. Caspere was a liability, they Mayor had his son deal with it, Velcro isn't supposed to be solving shit but thanks to W found the secret house, that worked out just fine because they needed the harddrive the stupid son forgot to grab, wanted to send a warning to Velcro and need him alive to continue not solving shit. Hell, maybe Drunk Dan from Deadwood is being paid by the Mayor to keep tabs because the mayor is trying to keep W in check and keep tabs on Velcro, remember afterall the Mayor insisted DDD go with Velcro on the investigation.

All that is at least in what we've seen. Trying to just toss out assumptions on the motivation of unknown characters, like maybe the killer only kills the perverse and not the innocents, or doesn't want to kill cops, is a bit far fetched. Which is why you're probably right.

Loving this damn show, both seasons. The quick looks between authority figures when the detectives speak, always making me feel like there is some limit to what our protagonists can learn before they too end up as blank faces staring at the audience from a forensic photograph. I'm digging the quiet nods to shows I loved like X-files and Twin Peaks without compromising its own style and taking the best part of old tropes while dumping the hokeyness. Many themes being combined into one product is my favorite aspect of this show, and though it has no relevance to the story, impressive performances from actors I had pigeonholed is interesting as well.

I would assume the fat cop is there to get dirt on the investigators just in case shit starts coming out.

I also thought the whole fight scene with VV was awkward.
Yep, I can see him being a plant there to watch the other state and chip detective in case metro needs a get out of jail free card.

Wait, huh? Not sure if you're saying:

I don't necessarily agree with the first. Most good shows combine many themes, sources, nods, etc into a coherent vision. We just don't notice it or point it out because they've actually combined them, so it's not seperate things we can point to as easily.

The second one, I agree with. I think Rachel McAdams could pull off some serious drama if she had good lines and some better direction/tutelage. What other impressive performances are you enjoying?

He meant the second.
Ah, so I wonder what other impressive performances. I see potential in McAdams that is outside her comfort zone. We kinda knew Coolin could do this kind of thing, and imo it's still not as good as it could be coming from him. W has been up and down, and is best when he's almost being a cut-up and not so dour, which is his schtick. The mayor? Hell, the black lady higher-up cop was actually pretty good this last episode, with the 'I'm not saying sleep with him' bit, hah.

Ya I meant like, bringing up religion, parenting , drug use , and sucking on a robot dick in the span of five minutes, all wrapped up in a cop drama without it being jarring or crammed down my throat.

As for my acting comments; Though there are many small instances of things that normally piss me off, like say child actors stinking up a scene or side characters having zero personality, that I feel True Detective does a good job with, if I have to think of a specific thing I like about the show I am personally impressed with, it would be subdued performances from Vaughn, Farrell, and McConaughey. In my mind I had expected X from them, but am seeing Y in the show and I enjoy it, that's all.

Perhaps I am easily appeased because I was a hardcore Twin Peaks fan back in the day, and even the tiniest resemblance to it lights up the little kid in me watching a spooky show late at night. Vaughn's assistant's quirky voice and way of describing the commie jew tickled me.

Assistant kinda sounds like he's doing a retarded Owen Wilson impersonation, but he's got some character and makes me chuckle! Front runner for the killer? He's sick of being yelled and and is trying to undermine W to take over the biz. Chances of W's wife getting preggers and the kid coming out half FrankenWilson?

The Conway Twitty impersonator did make me immediately think of Twink Peaks for some reason.

I guess I did say that because the actors weren't as terrible as I thought they would be I am impressed...well...fuck. I still like it!!

I got the Twin Peaks vibe too, which is funny because I was just thinking the other day that if all these people shitting on this season had a thread for Twin Peaks back in the day, they would go even more fully retarded.

Not even Walking Dead gets this much shit, and that mess is ridiculous.
